  1. If it is leaking from the left front wheel well then most likely the hose has come off the tank. The hose is put on with a better clamp. Jeff
  2. That DIYer was written by Peter Smith. Peter gave me the instructions and I gave a copy to Yoseif more than 2 years ago. Some of the info is now old. The oval trim piece is held in place by 2 metal clips. It is hard to get out because it is a tight fit. Try prying it off from inside the oval. Pictures from Sandy. Jeff
  3. You must be from the UK. Check this out on the UK Boxster board. http://forum.boxa.net/index.php?showtopic=2286&hl= There are LHD and RHD litronics. And there is a lever inside the headlight to switch over. The issue in the UK is MOT since the retrofit will not have the suspension sensors. It will not have the washers, however there is a retrofit kit for the washers. You can just put litronics in without hooking up the control unit. The control unit is only 3 wires. Ground, power, and high beam. Since it is so easy to hook up the control unit we always hook it up. We filmed the install. Jeff
  4. You can put the changer in, but the PST2 is needed to code it. You have to buy the changer, mounting bracket, and the harness. The harness has your usual copper wires for power and ground, and the fiber optic connections. I have put in many changers in pre MOST cars and would like to try the new CDC-4. We might be able to get Peter to code it for a nominal charge. Jeff
  5. You lower the top a few inches so that the clamshell has started to come up. Look under the clamshell and you will see a black cable on each side, that has a ball joint on the end. Disconnect the ball joint by pulling it - it takes some effort. Each cable has a ball joint at each end of the cable - I disconnect the bottom joint. There is a cloth dust cover held in place by 2 hooks - unclip it. Then you fold the rear of the top forward so that the plastic window is folded in half. We call this the service position as that is how you get to the lid for the engine.

  7. I have always been told you cannot order an option sticker. When my front trunk lid was replaced I made sure the body shop removed the sticker and put it on the new lid. Then a short time ago I was talking to the guys in the parts department and the manager was there. He said there is a special form for ordering a sticker, but it is not known to the general public.   8. I measured at the shift lever end, The GT2 shift tower even has the green plate from a Boxster 5 speed. GT2 does have a shorter shift throws. It must be the transmission end of the deal. But, a Boxster with a B&M was even shorter than a GT2.
  9. When I bought it 3 years ago it was 986 563 625 02, hardware cap. Same part number for both sides
  10. What you call a post should have a black plastic cap on it. The cap likes to pop off when the top is removed. You will have noise if the cap is missing. A dealer will place felt tape on the cap for noise issues. Jeff
  11. Come to San Jose with a full tank so I can drive your car. There is no way to figure out over the internet if a noise is normal or not. Try driving another Boxster under the same conditions and see if you hear the same thing. You are right, the engine and drive train are inches from where we sit. I keep thinking I hear a bad rear wheel bearing - but I have been thinking that for 31k miles. My free advise is to just keep on driving. If you have a CV joint going bad it will let you know, but the 2.5 Boxsters are not know for having problems with the CV joints. Jeff
  12. Craig, that is the only way I can figure out why people report a difference. It must be on the transmission end if it is true, and it has nothing to do with the shift tower. Can't see how it would have anything to do with the shift cables. I will bring my trusty Stanley tape and measure the shift throws on a GT2. Then do the same on a base Boxster, Boxster S, and a 996. Now, where can I find a GT3? Jeff
  13. First, as I said, my parts list is a year old. Lucky Loren has more updated info then I have. The part number that I gave that ended in 02 has been superseded to 03 per Loren's more recent info. A year from now it will probably end in 04. But now that Loren has supplied the part number for a GT3 we now know that it is the same part number for a base Boxster, GT2, and turbo. Between Loren and I we have put in about 30 B&M shift kits. Speaking for myself, every 996, Boxster, or Boxster S I have worked on had the same shift tower, even though there is a slight difference in part numbers. For example, why does a base 5 speed Boxster shift tower have a different part number than a 6 speed S if they perform the same? In the picture, on the left, is a 2000 S. On the right is a 2000 base 2.7. They are the same tower. But the 5 speed 2.7 has the green plastic plate you see in the picture, whereas the S on the left does not. That is the only difference. Since you cannot buy just that green plate, the S and base have different part numbers. To answer your question, the shift throws on the oem base and S are identical. After the kit is put in they feel identical - the throw is shorter, and a bit more effort is required to shift. If you are happy with your shift then leave it alone. A 6 speed will shift just like yours, once you get use to reverse being in a different position and the extra shift to 6th. Jeff
  14. I do not know about a GT3, since I have not worked on one yet and I do not have a parts list, but there is no factory short shifter for current Porsches. A few weeks ago we put in a B&M in Colm's new 996 X51. He also has a GT2. He said he thought his stock GT2 had some type of factory short shift. If there is such a thing I would like the part number. The shift tower/lever on a GT2 (and turbo) is identical to a 2000 and newer Boxster 5 speed. They both have the same part number 986 424 010 02. So it is either not true or the GT2 transmission is such that it has short shift throws. We will be working on a GT2 and I will take pictures of the shift tower. Then I will post a picture of it, along with a Boxster and 996. This is what the shift tower/lever looks like for a 5 and 6 speed Boxster. Jeff
  15. Here is the prior discussion on the switch. RennTech The TSB for the new 996 sport exhaust just came out in May. It does not list a switch kit, just a list of the many parts included in the sports exhaust kit. On the list of parts is 996 612 978 00 - called an electrical wiring harness - which includes a relay, switch-over valve, and some other parts. I think that is what is in Gert's picture The TSB is clear that the actual switch is not included in the sport exhaust kit. The reason is that there are 2 different switchs, depending on where you want to mount it. If you have seen the switch in a LHD and RHD cars you would see the the tai pipe symbols are reversed. If you mount the switch to the left of the radio then the part number then it is 996 613 988 10 A05. If you were to mount the switch to the right of the radio, such as a UK car, then replace 988 with 987. Also, the switch is only available in the matt finish, not the gloss finish your 1999 has. I am sure it can be done with a switch. One of these days I will ask Peter to look at a 2002-2003 996 wiring diagrams, 996 TSB, and figure out how to do it on a Boxster using the 996 parts. The TSB issued in 2000 for the Boxster sport exhaust states that the installation kit for a 2.5 is included in the sport exhaust kit. The 2.5 kit is 000 044 200 09 - and include in the kit is 000 044 200 11 - the 2.5 installation kit. Check these parts with your dealer as the TSB is 3 years old and Porsche likes to change part numbers. Jeff
  16. Put the green circuit board from your C2 into the C4 cluster. Or your C4 dial assembly in the C2 cluster. Either way you will see what you saw on your orignial C2 cluster except the dials will be white. There are about 3 companies aftermarket companies that claim they can modify the chips in the cluster, for the mileage. Have no idea if they can do anything with the fuel level.
  17. Your dog must have some magic - try it with a cat next time. Just pulling out any electrical device and plugging it back in can improve the connection. There is in fact a TSB for what may seem to be a bad oxygen sensor. Undo the connector, plug it back in, and it works. If our tops do not work they cannot be diagnosed with the PST2, unlike a 996 Cab.
  18. Would like to know how to get oil temp from the sender area. Fuel rails I saw on ebay. Regulator is the top left. JB pic of sender on a Boxster (note 1 wire-996 will have 2).
  19. I called the parts guy I know at the San Jose dealer and that is a good part number. Not in stock, as I suspected, since it is not a common replacement part. They can get parts in 2 days if it is in the US.
  20. On a Boxster the regulator is on the fuel rail, drivers side. Sender is on the cam cover, passenger side. Guess you reverse for a 996. Jeff
  21. The color code is missing. 996 613 155 00 A02. Might be able to pick it up at the Porsche dealer in San Jose. Doubt they will have it in stock, but they can get parts in 2 days if they are in the US. Jeff
  22. Boxster tops are simple compared to a 996. The 3 typical electrical problems are the latch switch, hand brake switch, or relay/control unit. There are 3 pages in the shop manual on troubleshooting. But it tells you to test for voltage in several places - not how to test the relay itself. Pull the relay out, tap it a few times, and put it back in. Some Boxster owners have gotten their top working by simply removing and reinstalling the relay. Or find a 1997-1999 Boxster owner and swap the relay to see if that is the problem. Double check the brake switch/light. Start the car, wait a minute, pull up on the brake and see if the light comes on. Jeff
  23. Use an E12 female torx socket if that is not what you used. I can get them off with a 3/8" socket but it is a sloppy fit. Torque spec is 48 foot pounds. Jeff
  24. My friend was the shop foreman at my local dealer. He bought the unit sold by Baum for his Palm Pilot and left me borrow it. I figured it was good since he had access to the shop's PST2s. Jeff
