  1. The tape did not start until 2003. Pull out on the rear of the cover. Jeff
  2. I will ask one of the women to do it for you. Keep in touch as we are talking about the next work on cars day. Jeff
  3. A nose job. Stay tuned. A guy from a German message board will be in San Jose and I want to set up something for him. But he gets here on a Saturday and leaves on a Thursday. I do not see how he can attend a Saturday work on cars day. Also said something about our lousy beer. :D
  4. Like you noted, there is a bulb socket and a wire to it but there is no power. We traced it back to the headlight switch but it was not worth further investigation. You simply run a jumper wire from the wire from socket that functions to the wire that does not. Then put in a bulb. Jeff
  5. http://lpr.pca.org/flyers/011704-TechSession1.pdf I have been to 2 tech sessions put on by Bob Grigsby of rmp enterprises in Sunnyvale. They were very good. This time it is cooling systems. Wonder if it has anything to do with the airpumpers. :D Pic of Bob from the last tech session. Jeff
  6. I will have to check with Raman to see if he has this figured out. He spoke to our friend and shop foreman at our local dealer. Hooking up a changer can't be that hard - but some DIYer has to be the first. When I spoke to Raman last month he confirmed he located the "junction box" near the booster. As you know the power cable has 3 wires. Talking to Raman he thought it went from the changer to the back of the radio head. I do not have a CDC-4 to look at. I remember looking at the power cable and thought it was strange in that it only had a connector on one end. When you look at the parts list for the various 996 fiber optic cables there is a listing of 2 TSBs. Same is true for the Boxster. I have been trying to get these TSBs for 2 months without any luck. This is the power cable that I assume the rest of you have.
  7. In the older cars it was under the tunnel. In 2002 the Boxster went to a returnless fuel system and the filter is gone. There is a filter in the gas tank but there is no spec on replacing it. I think the 2002 996 is the same - no more fuel filter to replace. This is the filter on the older 996/986. Jeff
  8. I thought I had this figured out but we will see. Raman's part number is the same as yours. You can see it on the box. 996 622 706 00. Bring back copper wires.
  9. I do but he works at a dealer and I do not want to commit for a free turn on for others until I ask. He is the one who has been helping Raman and I. The part number you gave for the fiber optic is the same as the one Raman has. He has the external amp/HiFi option.
  10. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...t=15entry2347 We are going to do this on Raman's 2003 Boxster if he did not do it already. We spent several hours trying to figure out how to hook up all the fiber optic cables. There is not a real wiring diagram. We will be having a work on cars day soon, most likely in San Jose, so sign up if you are interested. I'll try to get a car with a factory installed changer so we can copy the fiber optic hookup. Only a dealer can code the changer with their PST2. I trust you have the CDC-4 changer and the correct set of cables. Jeff
  11. Do check bulbs. My turn signals stopped working and all the bulbs were good. Turned out my hazard switch was bad. The turn signals run through that switch. See if the hazard lights work. Let us know what it turns out to be. Jeff
  12. There is not a normal release for the gas lid like there is for the trunks. When the car is unlocked it simply opens when you push on it with your hand. There is an emergency release. If you open the passenger door you will see a pull ring. Jeff
  13. You can just see the flasher in position #3.
  14. The orignial factory sport exhaust may not work on a 2003+ as the bypass pipes are in the way of the extensions to the rear bumper cover. This is the original sport exhaust. Pic from Rich. The pipes are now tucked in. To clear the bumper extensions. Another view. Looks like you can put on the bolt on 2.7 or 3.2 tip. For sale on German ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...=28629&rd=1 Update. I contacted the seller in Germany and the exhaust is only for sale there, but he hopes to export to the US. He is in a small village South of Stuttgart and says it sounds better than the 996 sport exhaust. I then asked on the German Boxster board and they know the seller and the exhaust. It is a pre-2003 sport exhaust that has been modified for better sound and so that it works on a 2003/04. It is not Porsche part number 000 044 200 20. I also asked about this exhaust on a German Boxster message board. http://www.staunet.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php...&highlight=
  15. The dummy plug fits in the original lighter socket on my 1997 Boxster. Something must have changed over the years.
  16. Loren has the instructions. The idler pully has a lot of tension since it is spring loaded. If you are strong you can do it with a 27mm combination wrench. I use a 2' breaker bar and a 27mm socket for more leverage like you see in the first picture. Rotate the nut clockwise and pull the old belt off. This is another Boxster.
  17. It is inspected at 30,000 miles and replaced at 60,000 miles. Doubt it is time on a 2002. This is how we do it on a Boxster.
  18. You can sign up here. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=958 We are testing this to see if it is a better way to schedule work on cars days. I will give you a list of parts to order if you decide to do it. No one will want your 4 spoke wheel. Many of us have swaped for a 3 spoke and we cannot give the 4 spokers away. If you can find a 3 spoke and air bag at a decent price the time to change it is when you do the OBC retrofit as we have to remove the wheel.
  19. Oh, if you want to do it with the stalk at one of our work on cars day I have a set of the 4 wires for a pre 2002 996 or pre 2001 Boxster already spliced. At our last work on cars day a guy showed up with the wrong wires for a 2002 Boxster. I had the correct wires for his year so we traded.
  20. It is the same for a 996. The 996 has an oval trim piece around the hazard switch that the Boxster does not have. The only thing to keep in mind is the wiring change that happened in 2001 for the Boxster did not happen until 2002 for the 996. Jeff
  21. We have filmed all that except for the door sill and EVO metal cable connector. I have asked on various boards how to install the metal cable connector so that the shift cable is properly adjusted. Got no response. I would remove the oem black plastic connector then put on the metal connector. Then put on the locking bridge tool to center the shift lever. Insert the end of the cable into the metal connector. I think it is then locked in with a set screw. I would then do the B&M install following the Porsche instructions as the metal cable connector is now in the oem position. Jeff
  22. I made a DVD which shows how to do this. Or you can simply follow the B&M short shift instructions. Jeff
  23. I have not seen the instructions for this unit. But the speed sensor wire to the radio is grey with a pink stripe. Jeff
  24. On a 2002 or older you would be better off with Traffic Pro - which gets good reviews. Porsche does not use a universal wiring harness. Each harness is made according to the options for the car. You would have to compare the wiring diagrams. Jeff
