  1. For the antenna the Boxster/996 owners mount it next to the pollen filter which is next to the battery. Then you can run the wire behind the battery to the radio through the rubber plug that is behind one end of the battery. This plug is where we run the cd changer cable from the radio to the trunk.   2. I have posted the instructions here with a picture, I think in the general 996 section. The air bag torx (T30) screws are small but they have loctite on the threads so it takes a bit of effort to break the bond. I bought the special long torx bit the dealers use as I was removing so many wheels. It fits on the end of my ratchet wrench so I can get the screws out fast.
  3. I would think it would be a simple switch of 2 wires that run from the switch to the relays. All this kind of info is in the wiring diagrams. There is also a page for the relays and other pages that show how they are wired - no need to map anything.
  4. Check the bottom door seal, There is a cut out for the cord. At least there is aon a Boxster.
  5. I thought the stud was in the manifold flange but I can see it is in the other flange. Do it whatever way works. If you do it on a bench vise put a proper sized socket over the round end like I said. Then clamp the socket and broken end together and the stud will be pressed out into the socket.

  7. The mic does not exist for a US car. We have a dummy plug for 1997-2002. In 2003 there is a mic for the Bose AudioPilot if you have that option. I have the wiring diagrams but it is not for something that does not exist for a US car.

  9. Peter told me Porsche went from a double to a single row bearing. That is why the failures show up on the newer cars.
  10. Takes me about 4 minutes. And I have been timed and filmed since it is on one of the DVDs. We have 2 local Boxster owners (Ray and Aileen) with the 4 spoke wheel. They have bought the 3 spoke steering wheel on ebay but need the black vinyl air bag if they have not bought it already. Let me know if you do it and I will put you in touch with them if they are still in the market.

  12. That is because this is a LHD board. :lol: To translate what Ian said into Yankee English. He put the 2003 rear bumper cover on. He then put the 2003 muffler on for cosmetic reasons because it has a fatter exhaust tip. The picture I posted is the 2003 muffler. Ian's picture is when he still had his original 2000 muffler. You can see the tip on a 2003 muffler is larger. This is also true with the old and new S muffler with the dual tips.
  13. I can't be much help as I am not familiar with the area of the flange on a 996. Need to see a good picture. If you have enough room/clearance to put a straight punch on the broken end of the stud and enough room to swing a hammer - I say give it a wack and see if you can pop it out. It is small. I have done this on my truck wheel studs which are much larger but I had plenty of room to swing a BFH. If you have the room and clearance you can try to push it out with a c-clamp. You put a socket on the round part of the stud that is larger than the round part, and something on the broken end. With your 3rd and 4th hands you put the clamp on and tighten it. This will force the broken stud out of the flange and into the socket. This is how I replaced universal joints as a kid when I did not have the proper tools.
  14. You like me are on the message boards where a few people have combined both types of units. All but one has removed one of the units as the shifting effort was too high. Any short shift requires more effort as it reduces your leverage, and if you add an addition unit then the required effort will be even greater. It will not damage the transmission if you give the syncros time to work. Paul has not yet responded to my request for the part number. Maybe he beat you on ebay.

My picture is a wheel stud from some American car that I found on the net, solely as an example of a serrated stud, as I could not find a 996 Porsche serrated exhaust stud on the net as much as that is hard to believe. If someone does not pipe in let us know. I have a suggestion as to how you can press the broken stud out of the flange if the the BFH and punch method does not work if there is enough clearance on a 996. Be careful if you are going to pound against an exhaust manifold, and do not say I did not tell you so.
  16. Sounds like a serrated stud that is in fact pressed in from your description, despite the PET description, and PET has been wrong before. "Easy" to remove with a straight punch and a BFH if you have room to work although the best way is to press it out since that type of stud is pressed and not pounded in. According to PET it is a very small diameter, 8mm, and I can see how it would snap when you torque on a frozen nut. Been there several times on non Porsche cars.
  17. Where is Loren when you need him? Are you talking about where the 2 flanges are bolted together with 3 nuts just at the end of the manifold? I am a Boxster guy and do not know about the 996 exhaust. On a Boxster it is a normal bolt. In my Boxster picture you can see that one of the bolts has fallen out when the exhaust system was removed from the manifold. PET for a 996 shows a picture of what looks like a normal bolt. Perhaps a picture? Jeff
  18. It is strange B&M does not have it on its site. When it first came out I went to B&M site and it was not there. Brandywine Porsche was selling a bunch of them on ebay for about $175, but there are none there now. One of our local 996 owners bought one. I will ask him for the part number but he is usually slow getting back to me. Jeff
  19. Some of our local Boxster owners have das shield - since we have 2 trunks. It is just black plastic. Probably made out of ABS. Nothing special and I could not see why it could not be painted. It is not a slippery plasic.
  20. You can pull on only one end of the carpeted trim panel. It does take some effort as it is held in place with plastic clips. Have someone show you if you are afraid od breaking something. Tape would not hurt if you are concerned.
  21. The relay panel is under the dash. Stick your head where the fuse box is and look up.
  22. Believe it or not there is an oil message board. http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi It has an incredible amount of information for oilheads. I like their VOA and UOA reports - virgin/used oil anaylsis. These guys will send a sample of unused oil into a lab for testing. :o What I found interesting is Mobil One 0W-40 does not get great reviews. I also like how the trash K&N filters. Ask them what they think. You will get intelligent responses backed up with data. Oil does not behave the way us lay people think.
  23. On the UK Boxster board from time to time someone will say the cable is there even if you do not have the changer, and sometimes it is not. There is or was a "prep" option in the UK that some cars have. If you are looking in the right place and cannot find it then it looks like you do not have this prep option. You can ask for further info on the UK board and perhaps there is an option code you can check. In the US we never have the cable unless the car was ordered with the changer. If you buy the Becker Silversone 2660 changer the cable comes in the box. You can buy the cable as a separate item from Becker or Porsche, but according to the UK board there are very few Becker dealers in the UK. Jeff
  24. It will work. Ian on the UK Boxster board with a 2000 2.7 put a 2003 muffler on his car. He also put on a 2003 rear bumper cover and side vents, and is looking for a 2003 front bumper. I think he wants a 2003 part by part. The 2003 muffler is identical for the 3.2 and 2.7. The only thing different is the single or dual tip, but the tip is held on with a bolt so you can use either tip. The Box muffler has always been stainless. Ian's 2000 with the 2003 look. Jeff
