  1. The fuse for the power windows has nothing else in the circuit. This is a new problem for me. Let us know if you figure it out. Jeff
  2. If it is from the RMS or the intermediate shaft it will drip straight down to the ground and not hit anything. The oil spot on the ground is normally right in the middle. The oil can sometimes get in the clutch but that is unusual, and you would know it right away. Since your car is out of factory warranty I would not deal with it until it is time for a clutch replacement if it is the RMS or intermediate shaft seals. Most likely it is the cam cover or seals or spark plug tubes or oil filler pipe or one of the 100 other places a motor can leak. If you are in the San Jose area stop by our work on cars day and we will jack it up and find out for sure where it is comming from. Having owned a few English cars and motorcycles...... Oil on the floor is good. Tells you there is still some in the motor.
  3. I have not heard of this one in years - since the 220 radio came out in 1999. This used to be a warranty replacement for many 996 and Boxster owners. I suggest you try Becker unless someone has a better idea. Jeff
  4. Where the engine bolts to the transmission there is a small hole and the oil can drip out of there. This would be right in the middle of the car if it is the RMS. If your leak is on the side then it may be the cam cover or the spark plug tubes. Oil likes to move around. You have to get under there and look for the source.
  5. You oilheads have to check out the oil board. http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultima...ic;f=1;t=004626 Let's say you mix equal parts of 20 and 40 weights together. You should get 30 weight. Nope. Does not work that way when it comes to viscosity. Much to my suprise. Jeff
  6. 1997-1999 was the 2.5 with 201hp. In 2000 out came the 2.7 with 217 and the 3.2 with 250. US numbers from my memory. In 2003 the 2.7 and 3.2 got an extra 8 hp. With the 2004 special edition the 3.2 gets an additional 6hp. The 2.7 and 3.2 have e-gas. The xtra hp is due to the displacement increase and what seems to be a cam change. You cannot get great hp increases out of a NA Boxster motor like you can with your 944 turbo unless you supercharge it or turbo it. Jeff
  7. You have a K&N oiled filter. ;) http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=659 Having the light come on and then immediately go out is a new one for me. I will look at my OBDII manual when I get a chance. There are other people here with the manual and maybe they have some suggestions. Otherwise, this is a Peter question.
  8. Porsche sells spacers for the Boxster as well and the 550 special ed. comes with spacers. Depends on how close you want to get to the edge of the fender.
  9. Are you hitting the rev limiter. :D I would have said the air flow sensor since that will cause a power loss and a check engine light. Do you know what are the fault codes? Jeff
  10. That is it for you car. It comes with everything. You actually remove your carpet and replace it with the one in the kit.
  11. I think it was KevinM who replaced his and i do not remember anything special. They are held down with double faced foam tape. You have to break the bond by pulling or prying. Some heat helps.
  12. There is the book labor rate and then how long it takes an experienced mechanic to do the work. I watched Peter take everything out for a seal replacement on a Boxster. Once the flywheel was out and I could see the leak from the seal I had to leave. I was less than 2 hours.
  13. If it is this piece then it just pulls up. This part also pulls up.
  14. Drive around with it on and hit some bumps untill it falls off? :P Reverse the direction of the wrench just a hair and it will fall off. We do this all the time for the same reason when it gets 'stuck.'
  15. JayM is the guy for this one as he has a Ruf turbo conversion.
  16. I 'fixed this' on 2 Boxsters. Open the key head as if you were going to replace the battery and remove the battery. Put everything back together and see if the light stays off. Porsche has a TSB on this but my simple 'fix' worked. Not sure why that cured the problem. Jeff
  17. There is a bulb for each of the 3 LCDs. We have had to replace a few for just the reason you noticed. The bulb holder is tan. The black bulb holders are for the idiot lights. Those bulbs you replace from the back of the cluster. Instructions on cluster removal have been posted a 100 times. There are bulbs to light up the gauges but you have to take the cluster apart to get to them so you do not see them in my picture. You can see the 3 tan bulb holders. The smaller black ones are for the idiot lights. This is one of the bulbs you will need to replace. I have not found a source for them other than the dealer.
  18. Anyone think it is time for a work on cars day in the San Jose area?
  19. You are not the first one. The plastic itself is amber. I took it apart!. No way to remove the amber color. I bought used 996 head lights. You can buy 2003/04 Boxster new headlights but they cost a lot. Jeff
  20. Still like the Hazet version better. $28 for a $7 tool. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...MEBWA%3AIT&rd=1 Only on ebay.
  21. Most common is that the storage box lid is not closed. Next is the microswitch in the front trunk latch. Porsche changed the switch in 2000. If the switch is bad the trunk light will not go on, go off, or the alarm horn will beep. You can buy just the switch if that is what it is. At my dealer they just the entire latch. You can see the wires to the switch.
  22. I knew I have seen that couch before. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...RK%3AMEBDW%3AIT I'm looking for a Boxster red leather 996 cap and surround, and Loren will not give me his. Boxster red is not common on a 996. Let me know if you see a Boxster red unit and I will let you know if I see a black leather unit.
  23. A leather couch? My picture I call the surround. Your picture I call the cap. You had a picture of a 996 black dash cap with a red surround. Was the dash cap not leather? Loren has the part numbers. With a 996 you get the surround and the cap together for some reason. On a Boxster you can order them as separate parts.
