  1. Your cables look almost ok, but a bit too short. The square ends could stick out longer. You got me. If I had your car this is what I would do. Put the top in the service position and disconnect the red plastic joints. Have someone operate the top switch while you watch the clamshell open and close to see where the noise is comming from. You have to watch out that as the V-levers move the red joints do not get hung up on something a break. If you have 2 extra helpers have them hold the joints clear while the clamshell is operated. If it was my car I would replace the cables, since with a 1998 you should do this anyway. Then report back.
  2. On the UK Boxster board some owners have found that the car is pre wired for the changer. Have you checked yours.
  3. I do not see why you could not buy aftermarket faces in metric. The needle sweep is the same.
  4. If the sport exhaust came off a 3.2 or 2.7 you will need the adapter kit for the 2.5. The mounting points on a 2.5 muffler are different than the 2.7/3.2. If it is used and came off a 2.5 then it should have the adapter unless just the muffler itself was sold. You first need to tell or show us what you bought and what came with it unless it is just the muffler.
  5. Once you have removed the long screw on the top left then you lift up on the unit. At least that is the way on a non egas car.
  6. Ok, I had assumed you tried some repairs to the top and then the noise started. Determine if you have the original unreinforced cable housing. Then remove the clip on the motor for each cable and see if you have about 3/4" of the square end sticking past the metal end. There are pictures and instructions on this board.
  7. I did not take picture of the other side of the hood. If they show up on Saturday for detail day and I remember I will take some pictures. Or you can ask Danny where he got his. If you lift up your hood you see structural supports that make the metal skin rigid. Both Alex and Danny had similar supports. But on Danny's car the supports were bonded to the carbon fiber skin. Not so on Alex's hood which is why there is so much flex.
  8. I assume your dealer subs out this type of work. Find out who does the work and go to their shop for them to look at the wheel. We have a local wheel repair shop that all the dealers use. I have been in the shop and I cannot believe they fix things that look like junk to me.
  9. What happened to that sensor. The fuel filter is replaced at 60k miles.

Have the cables been replaced. I do not know of any way to adjust the run time. That is a function of lever switch above the top motor and the top relay/control unit. I think the black push rods that look like shocks have a spring inside which provides the tension to hold down the clamshell. There is no adjustment. If it is defective then it is replaced.
  11. Danny's carbon fiber hood fits very well. Alex's turbo has the problem and may have Klevar. And the cross braces are not bonded like on Danny's car. Danny went back and forth between the cars and showed us what was different.
  12. Danny is not the gt3fx guy - which I think is John Reed. Who, as far as I have seen from the pictures, might have a 3.4 conversion in a 1997. Not much pictures since I have seen Danny's car so many times over the years. But, it always looks different. I think the NOS gauge is a dream..... Some old pictures.
  13. The shortest shift throw on a Boxster/996 I have ever seen over the years is Danny's 2000 2.7 Boxster. He came to the last work on cars day and I was thinking about meausuring the throws. Why bother - there is almost nothing to measure. I had always thought he cut down the oem shift lever, like the 550 SE. When I lifted the shift boot he had a B&M. He cut down the shift lever on a B&M!
  14. Just 3 minutes. :o Glad there is no prize. The shroud has a plug in it. It is a MY97 made in November 1996, recently purchased by local owner Fong who came to our work on cars days last Saturday. He wanted to retrofit the trip computer/OBC so I gave him a list of the parts to buy. Then I looked at his VIN and it was lower than my January 1997 build. So I looked to see if he had a temp sensor - nope. I retrofitted the temp sensor on a December 1996 a few years ago. My January 1997 non OBC option has it. The very early MY97s did not have it unless you had the OBC option. In the UK you do not have it unless you have a/c since that is not standard there. Since Fong also has a horn that is not working and a scratched bumper cover I hope to do the temp sensor retrofit at the same time.

  16. Abe's 2003 was turned on before he did the retrofit. The two 2003s we did were turned on weeks before we had time to get together to do the retrofit. But on the other hand, you can do the retrofit first and then have it turned on. I like it turned on first. I test to make sure it is working before we put all the parts back together in case we put a wire in a wrong slot or the connectors are not properly seated. I can't test if it is not turned on. So you do not get confused, Loren has the old style instrument cluster and that is why he can see the temp display without the retrofit. You have a 2003 and with 2001-2004 you will see nothing until the retrofit is done. Jonhale from the UK board was asking me for part numbers the other day so you better hurry up. He might beat you to it.
  17. Someone put a kit together on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...RK%3AMEBWA%3AIT Do not see the need for the control unit or B pillar switch unless you have a problem. The push rods have the old style red plastic joints - no big deal. The part number for one of the cables looks like it is off a digit. Also has the hardware I suggested that Gary replace, including the rubber buffers for the push rods. A good deal for $80 even if you do not need all the parts and the other cable part number checks out.
  18. There is a green line to the adjustment bolt which is a silver color. You turn it counter clockwise to tighten the cable. The cable has been disconnected in the piture. The male part of the ball joint for the cable connector has a yellow line to it. The picture is the left side of the car. The right side is identical.
  19. From my high school auto shop days. Vapors from the fuel tank are collected in a cannister. When the car is running these vapors are sucked into the intake and burned. US law requires an onboard system to determine if there are leaks in the emission system. A vacuum is created in the tank and measured with a pressure sensor to determine if you have a bad line or valve(s) for the emission side of the tank. There is a valve to open the cannister and a valve to close the system so that vacuum can be built up. So with that code the book says you are to check the lines and valves for leaks. Like when you forget to put the gas cap on and get a check engine light.
  20. You can tighten the tension cables and see if that helps. It is the cables covered in black plastic with a ball joint on each end.
  21. The book says it is for detecting leaks in the fuel tank ventilation system. And that there is a problem with a line or 1 or 2 valves
  22. The Porsche part number is 993 645 453 00. I think the Becker part number is 1184.709-276 - you need to verify. All you have to tell Becker or Continential is that you want a Silverstone cd changer cable. The Becker cable is 17' long. We coil the excess and hide it next to the battery.
  23. The rack is the magazine. Has nothing to do with mounting the changer. I'll look up the cable if you do get it. I have never seen the CDX-T62. It was discontinued when I wanted to put a changer in so I went with Becker. I assume the Sony is identical and will mount on the Porsche bracket like the Becker unit does but you will have to verity. If you get the mounting bracket from Continential they know all the other little parts you need. 2 clips 999 507 532 02. 6 screws 900 075 440 07. 2 well nuts 999 500 078 00. 2 bolts 900 378 179 09. You have the part number for the bracket. You also need the keys to pull the radio head.
  24. I have not heard of someone using a Sony cd changer in 5 years. Does the cable you have look like my pictures? You can get a Becker cable and mounting bracket from Porsche or Continential Imports.
