  1. I type so slow there are 6 new messages before my last one. This is the levers removed from the door sill. Yellow lines are to the locking cam that you need to rotate out of position if that is the problem.
  2. How could you not know if the alarm was set when you disconnected the battery? It makes a difference as to what the problem is. First, just just start playing with both levers at the same time and see if that fixes the poblem. Does the rear trunk lever work? When the alarm is set a metal cam rotates into position below the levers so that they cannot be lifted. If your battery dies or is disconnected while the cam is in the lock position then you cannot pull up on the levers. If the battery is connected then you can charge it through the lighter and once the battery has enough juice you turn off the alarm and the cam rotates out of position. You cannot charge a battery through the lighter if you have disconnected the battery. If the levers are locked because of the alarm being on when you disconnected the battery then try the screwdriver trick already suggested. It is hard to do because you cannot see what you are doing or where the locking cam is. Get a strong light and a small thin blade screwdriver. The screwdriver must be at the angle in my pic since that is where the cam is. The cam is horizontal and rotates side to side. I forget which direction you rotate the cam to unlock the levers - it is either left or right. Stick the screwdriver in so that the tip is on the cam then try to rotate the cam. You can only move the cam a little bit at a time. Take the screwdriver out once in a while and see if the lever pulls up. If that does not work then try the other directiion. If you give up then you have to go for the emergency release cable.
  3. Parts Bin must have figured out something. When I checked a few months ago the $189 sensor became $245 and now they want $300. Too many people reading this thread. You might give Sunset Imports in Oregon a call. Mark said they wanted $245 but Porsche has recently raised prices. They gave you the correct part number for a 2.5. There has only been one version of the 2.5 sensor. It is a straight swap and no calibration is needed.
  4. Eric said it is M72 for Carrera GT silver. It is the same color used on the 2004 Boxster 550 special edition.
  5. You have a 2000 so you have mechanical levers to open the trunks. You do not have the electric trunk releases that started in 2001. The lever should just pull up unless the alarm was on when the battery was disconnected.
  6. It is just like Dell said. For your garage door you did not use the 2 outside terminals. Those are for the night time illumination. Find another switch that does not have an led indicator and run 2 jumper wires from the outside terminals of that switch to the outside terminals of your new switch. Kirby's instructions. http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/albur29
  7. There are people from Europe on this board who might be able to help. There is also a technical section on the German Boxster board. But you need to register. I ask my questions there in English and they answer them in English. http://stau.jowood.de/phpBB2/index.php?sid...36b182b404a58fd You might also try rennteam since that is German based. You can buy stuff from Zuffenhausen believe it or not. But they will not ship outside Germany. I tired to buy a technical publication since I have a friend in Germany to ship it to that we could not get in the US, but they would not sell it to me. They said it was only for their mechanics. You might also try Gert. Is the kit you have for a 3.4 or 3.6?
  8. You need to stay tuned to renntech for the latest and most accurate info. Peter Smith is the one who came up with the retrofit instructions and figured out the 2003 issue. He showed me how to do it years ago. We have done about 40 installs over the years and filmed 4 of them, including a 2003 install. The PCA instructions for 2003 are also from Peter. The first 2003 trip computer Peter turned on was September 17, 2002. There was an unsold 2003 in the showroom and I asked Peter to see if it could be turned on. Then he turned it on for Scott and Raman and we did the retrofit almost 2 years ago. Old news. Peter wondered if you could enter any 6 digit code, like 123456, but he used the proper code for the base and S. Next retrofit I will ask him to make up a random 6 digits and see if it works. Can't wait until the 987 come out. If there is an OBC retrofit that can be done I know who will figure it out. This is Scott's 2003 being turned on in 2002.
  9. It can only be turned off by someone with the Porsche tester. The issues are the buckles and ground wires or the control unit. In your year they used tin plated contacts, and there is a retrofit kit that uses gold plated contacts. You might try Tim Benson at Fastlane Porsche in Santa Cruz. He use to work for Stevens Creek Porsche and then My-Porsche before starting his own shop. He has a PST2 and can read the fault codes. http://www.fastlanesc.com/
  10. Sometimes is not best to reinvent the wheel. But, you never know.
  11. I guess. Your car is possessed. Wish I had a PST2 since a simple code reader can only do so much. I wish I had the 2001 bulletin to see what was changed from the original 2000 bulletin for the air flow sensor.
  12. You have the first version of the sensor that was used until January 31, 2000, so your car must have been made before then. WAIT is covered in the radio manual. You either entered the wrong code or you have the wrong code card. Did you buy the car used? A lot of the early 220 radios were replaced due to peeling buttons, and you may not have the original radio that goes with your code card. You can display the radio serial number on the face plate and see if it matches the serial number on the card.
  13. Is there a difference if you you the outside door handle vs. the inside handle.
  14. The patch is needed if the car had 996 606 124 00 and you are switching to the other part numbers you listed. 996 606 124 00 was the first version e-gas sensor that was used up to January 31, 2000. Your car did not have the first version sensor. Note that the first version had a 996 part number while the other two have 986 part numbers.
  15. It is not going to be the filter. You need to come to a work on cars day. Every filter we remove has all kinds of crap on the black foam and there is no check engine light related to the filter condition. We tap it on the ground and all the junks come out. If the place we are using has an air compressor then we blast it with air.
  16. I asked one of the mechanics a long time ago about what he and I call a hunting idle problem, with no air flow sensor issue. He said they clean the throttle body with spray carb cleaner in a can. Am I correct that you did not have an idle issue until the sensor was replaced.
  17. There is no way to tell what is being sold for $159 since it is not a Bosch or Porsche part number - must be an aftermarket number. You might want to ask Dave or Mark what number was shown on their purchase invoice. Dave and Mark have a 2.5 (1997-1999) which is not e-gas and there is just one sensor for the 2.5. 2000 up is e-gas and there are 3 versions of the sensor for an e-gas car. You cannot just swap any e-gas sensor with another version of the e-gas sensor since the car computer has to be programed for the sensor being put in the car if it is not the original version. And even with a direct swap of identical versions of the sensor there may be idle problems. I hope to get a newer bulletin to find out what is going on. Search under porscheneer name since he is going through this now. Update. The 2001 bulletin replace the 2000 bulletin. Peter gave me a copy of the 2001 bulletin. The only difference is that certain things must be done if a new style e-gas sensor is replaced. Porsche wants an OBDII report and the repair order. Then the dealer is to replace the filter and send it back to Porsche with the sensor that was replaced to the warranty test center in Atlanta.
  18. Here is something from Peter who works at my local dealer. He just removes the pads. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...7-2B9E026F6EFA}
  19. There is a Boxster guy with the same problem. The switch will come on random. He notices it when he used the window or top switches. Let us know why if you figure out the problem.
  20. The computer thinks the smog pump system is not working properly, but the pump itself can be fine. There is a very long list of things to check. One of the many is the air flow sensor. The easy thing for you to check is if the air pump comes on in the morning when the car is cold. That is the turbine like sound you hear when you first start the car. I can hear it with the top up. Or you can listen near the vent on the passenger side since the electric air pump is right above the vent in the engine compartment. Or better yet, remove the engine lid and start the car when it is stone cold then look at the pump to see if it is running. This is easy for a dealer to do since they can turn it on with the PST2.
  21. No more code cards as of MY03. When you buy the CDC-4 you will also have to buy a fiber optic kit and there are several depending on your options. Check the Boxster section because Raman just put one in his 2003 Boxster. After the car was apart we realized he had been sold the wrong kit. Lucky our local dealer had the correct kit in stock so he was only slightly delayed.
  22. I do not close the storage box all the way on purpose, so when I set the alarm I hear the beep. The reason is that I am usually walking away from the car in a hurry by the time I push the button on the remote so I cannot see the lights flash. But I can hear the beep. All other alarm contacts are on and protected, just not the storage box. With the top down and the red clip on no one is going to be able to reach into my car without setting off the interior motion detector. If you have the lid on the box closed and latched and get the single beep then it is like Loren said. A bad alarm switch on the latch, or a bad switch on the front trunk latch.
  23. If anyone in the San Jose area buys that unit let me know and I will help you put it in. Jeff
  24. Read Nathan's post since we saw a cloud of smoke on the track when we went to Languna Seca on Sunday. This is the new design that was on ebay. Peter said it is just 2 bolts but they are hard to get to. You also need the hose or J-tube that goes to it. Your profile says a 1998 so you have the old horizontal style.
  25. I had another car that did the same thing and I replaced the reverse switch on the transmission. Sometimes the reverse lights worked and sometimes they did not. It is only because of a switch that a Porsche with a manual transmission knows you are in reverse. Switches go bad sometimes. There is a guy on rennlist with a 996 and he had the same problem, solved by replacing the transmission switch. Said it was made by an American company, like GM. This is what it looks like on a 5 speed Boxster since that is what I have. Someone will help you with your 996.
