    280 is a speed trap. When I bought my Boxster 9 years ago I liked to show people how the spoiler went up and down. Boxster were not common back then like they are now. One of the persons, Bruce, is sort of a car nut. Bruce is also a lieutenant with SJPD. I use him as a private investigator when he is off duty. Bruce asked me how fast the car had to be going before the spoiler went up. I told him 35 mph. :rolleyes:

    Ooops, I am a lowley Boxstir owner. The Boxster did not get PSM as an option until 2001. I have a Millennium brochure and it says it came with PSM. But the Boxster always had to wait for hand-me-downs from the Carrera....

    As you found out the crusise control indicator is in a different postion on the base 2.7 vs. 3.2 S. That is why I asked you what the face went up to. 175 mph is an S face and you have the base 2.7. I have no idea why Porsche put the indicatior is in a different position depending on if it is a 2.7 or 3.2. I do not know if you can change something to use the indicator on the idiot light bar - I don't even know if there is actually an led behind the indicator on the 2.7 cluster. Unless someone comes up with a solution. Get the base boxster face that reads to 150 mph.

    The engine has to be taken apart to get to the bearing. The dealership did not even bother to open up the engine to see if it could be fixed. A replacement engine was on order at the time of the picture.

    Mystery solved. PSM did not exist until 2001. Traction control is part of the ABS unit in the front trunk next to the brake booster. Just don't hit the air bag control unit with a hammer or tilt it....

    I love these trivia questions. The top one is LoJack because it looks just like this one that was installed near the brake booster. The second box that is a lighter black or gray color, I was going to say it is the LoJack battery. The one at the bottom with the orange sticker is the air bag control unit. What year is the car and does it even have traction control or PSM?

    I am not the stereo guy. The local guys remove the four 3 inch speakers then use brackets made of plastic for two 3 1/2 inch speakers. I think the problem is finding quality 3 inch speakers that fit, so they use a pair of 3 1/2 inch. I do not remember if you can get a pair of 3 1/2 inch speaker into one side. Harvey Peck sells a rear speaker kit. He uses four speakers, but I do not know the diameter. People have said his speaker kit sounds good. Second pic is Peck's speakers, but he makes his own mounting bracket

    A model year 2001 should have a 220 Becker radio. 2003-2004 is the fiber optic 23 and I don't think you want to mess around with it with a 2001. When the Becker message board was working they said you can swap faceplates on the 220 radio from another 220 radio. Becker also sells faceplates. To be sure find another 1999-2002 car and borrow the faceplate and try it in your car. Once you have the serial number for the radio Loren can guess the code.

    Is that a Stobel Nautilus? I had my clutch replaced 6 weeks ago at an independent shop owned by Marvin. Marvin use to work at 2 local dealerships before going independent. Marvin inspects the cars he works on. One of the things he checks out is the operation of the horn. He asked me why my horn was so loud....

    Chuck Moreland. About 5 or so years ago he was looking for a local Boxster to use as a pattern for a magnetic bra. My office is 2 minutes from his place. My Boxster was measured for the pattern. Bunch of air cooled stuff around his place. Good to see you found god and got into the water cooled world.... Here is a picture from the Parts Heaven swap meet from 5 years ago. Did not see Chuck at the meet this year.

    Use the parts listed by Kbrandsma for your 2004. Item (4) he has on the list for the rubber gasket where the stalk pokes out of is optional. You can take you existing gasket with a single hole and cut the additional hole for the obc stalk with a utility knife.

    I am not the electrical guy, but 5 years ago I played around with the idea of using the wiper stalk to control something. One of the local EE Boxster guys did this to control some audio component. From what little I remember there is an unused switch inside the wiper stalk unless the car has headlight wipers. That is push forward position you mentioned. I made some notations but it has been so long I don't remember. I even bought one of the pins that fit into the female electrical connector. It is the sliver pin in the 3rd picture.

    I think Eric Schaefer is still the service manager of Stead Porsche. I met him about 7 years ago when the then new model was a 2001. He told me it could not be done on a 2001, but I had already done it on a 2001. I gave him a copy of Peter Smith's instructions and showed him the wiring harness Peter came up with. About a week later Eric said they had done the retrofit on a customer's car, but it was something he did not think the dealership would be offering. I understand this. Dealership mechanics are not trained to do "hacks" like this. This is really a DIY project. If you want to go to San Jose I can turn it on. As Loren said, on a 2003 the order type for some reason is missing from the DME. The second 2003 OBC retrofit we did was Raman's car - that is the one in the video. When Peter tried to turn on his OBC it was discovered that the order type was missing. Once Peter entered the order type in the DME then he was able to turn the OBC on. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...0&start=100

    I have been told it can't be done on a 2003.... What kind of video do you have? Actually, the first ever OBC retrofit was done on Scott's 2003 on January 17, 2004.

    It is next to the oil pan on the right side. Next time you are at the dealer bring your VIN and have the parts guy put it in the computer and give you the print out for your car. It will have the engine and transmission serial numbers and other info.

    I met Darin last month at the Parts Heaven swap meet in Hayward. He had some 993 and 996 modified mufflers. This is the typical way for a Boxster. The Germans started doing this years ago. It is a takeoff on the first version sport exhaust sold by Porsche.

    Here it is on my 1997. I had to clean the plate off to see it. Car was on a lift so that helps when taking a picture and the flash was on. I guess the bolt hole is for when the engine case is used for mounting something on the "backwards" engine 996.
