  1. You must mean Platinum +4 which has already recently been discussed. Our cars do not have spark plug wires.
  2. We need Madam No Fear to rescue 2 cars, but I guess it is now just Jean's car.
  3. Hard to know without seeing your car. On a Boxster the slave cylinder is on the drivers side above the left rear wheel. I thought it was on the passenger side on a 996, but you say the fluid is on the divers side. The clutch line is blue plastic. This is it on a Boxster. There is a black plastic cover under the drivers side door sill that covers part of the line. Check the line. Have someone operate the pedal and look for the source of the leak.
  4. The flaps are open unless there is a vacuum to the actuators on each side of the exhaust. The flaps close at 27-42 and then exhaust is sent into the muffler because that is when the vacuum pulls the actuators/flaps closed. So if you disconnect and plug both vacuum lines then the valves are open all the time. This is to meet euro drive by noise regulations, for when you are driving slowly through a small village. The sport exhaust is sold around the world; there are no different versions of the sport exhaust for different countries. I am on the German Boxster message board and there are Swiss and German people on the board. The Swiss blame the Germans and the Germans blame the Swiss. From what I have read over the years I think the Swiss have the strictest noise requirements. If you have been around a while Porsche use to brag how it could meet the noise regulations in all countries with the standard exhaust, as the outlet for the muffler is in the middle of the car and the sound meter is placed on the side of the car as it drives by the meter. If you have been to our local track, Laguna Seca, you see some funny looking exhaust set ups because there is a sound limit as homes have been recently built in the area. The meter is on the right side of the track, so they point the exhaust to the other side to beat the sound meter. :D
  5. They also replace those 2 green plastic round plugs at the end of the camshafts.
  6. You can use one that ends in 06. It has an A in front of the part number which indicates that when the stock is used up then to use 07. 14 is for a 2004. I do not see 16 on the parts list.
  7. There is another thread here on the platinum +4. I do not know a Boxster owner with iridium. We have a local 996 turbo owner who tried them and he said the car ran bad. And for what it is worth, the owner of a Harley shop I know says they are junk. The Bosch plugs used by the factory are the Super line. These are conventional nickel plated copper plugs. I have used my trusty Craftsman spark plug socket, extension, and ratched tools. Did not need to buy special tools for the Box.
  8. The valves that operate the flaps are controlled by vacuum. The vacuum is controlled by wires to the speed sensor. At 27-42 miles per hour the flaps close, and I assume this is determined by the special relay that comes with the sport exhaust. I do not know how you can change the mph settings. The simplest thing is to disconnect the vacuum line to each valve and plug the lines. Then the bypass pipes will be open all the time. If you have the exhaust as a factory option then it did not come with a switch in 2001. I have assumed your sport exhaust was optioned with the car.
  9. I saw Manny today and guess what he was getting ready to do on a 996. He said there are bolts on the cam cover that need to be removed as well. I think he said for a solenoid and a pump, and these things just pull off. He does not use the camshaft holding tool. He said it also helps to drop the engine down a bit but I told him this was not an option for someone working on their driveway. He said they always replace the tubes because they crack or bits of plastic fall off when removing the tubes. He said not to worry if bits of plastic fall into the cam cover as it will not harm anything.
  10. What transmission do you have in the car?
  11. Let us know when you are worried about that switch. Depending on the resting posting of the steering wheel you may have to wiggle the wheel to get the key to turn. Instructions on how to replace it on on this board. Jeff
  12. Any engine or the Boxster flat 6 has many seals. No clue unless you can identify the seals.
  13. I am not the stereo guy but this is what I have seen. The pins on the back of the 23 radio are the same as the older 210 and 220 radios, but not all of them work on the 23 even though they are still there. Your 23 radio has pins for rear speakers and a cd changer but they do not work. That is why on a 23 the rear speakers and changer are hooked up to the amp. not the back of the radio head like on the 210 and 220 radios. The 2 fiber optic cables on the back of the 23 radio go to the amp. I do not know of any way to get a MOST amp to work with a non 23 radio.
  14. Taste like money. :D Kirby's picture of Alex on a work on cars day.
  15. Might be the reason why I always see them replace the spark plug tubes when they do a cam cover reseal. Forgot to mention, but they also always replace those round green things seals for the camshafts at the ends of the covers. Next time I will take a picture of all the parts need for a cam cover reseal. The "back" parts counter for the mechanics at my dealer puts all the parts for the job in a plastic bag. That is how I know the tubes and round seals are also replaced. So, does it still leak? Or do you have to run out for the tube(s).
  16. Without having the opportunity to try to car it sound like it is just the nature of a short shift, as you installed it properly. Once you have driven the car more you get use to it. See if you can try another car with the Porsche/B&M and if it feels the same.
  17. No clue, but maybe this will help. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/show...ad.php?t=115196
  18. My local dealer takes the position that if the cluster is openend the warranty is over. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1562
  19. This is a pic of the test mentioned by Henry, before the cluster is put back together. Ignore the air bag thing as Ray also replaced his steering wheel with a 3 spoke at the same time the cluster faces were replaced.
  20. When you turn the key on do the lights in the instrument cluster come on?
  21. Very good. The first dual hack in the world. Here are your pictures from boxa.net, the UK Boxster board. Keep in mind this is a RHD car, but the only difference you can see in the pictures is that the fuse box is on the right hand side..
  22. When it comes to oil bulletins Porsche changes them every few months. On this board is the current stuff. I have the older ones which have been superceeded. I looked in my files for the first Boxster bulletin reference to Mobil One 0W-40 being the the factory fill for the Boxster. Issued June 1, 2001, and states the 996 turbo is an exception. You are correct that subsequent to the Boxster bulletin Porsche issued a bulletin stating that it was also factory fill for the turbo.
  23. Sounds like your immobilizer does not recognize one of the key heads. You should have 3, the third being the valet key that has no battery or light. But all Boxster keys have a chip in the key head. If you pull the metal key shank out of your lighted key head and put it in the ignition switch and turn the ignition on you will see all the dash lights go on - but the car will not start without the chip. Has nothing to do with the battery in the key head since on your car it is just for a light so you can see the key hole at night.
  24. That is the part number. When you see 721 in a part number you know it is a tool. The tool itself has 996 424 395 02 on it.
  25. In the US Porsche sells a rear speaker kit. On your year the rear speakers are powered from the radio head. In the picture you see a brown plug - that is for the rear speakers. In the second picture the owner did not have the brown plug so the wires for the rear speaker were hooked up using electrical terminals.
