  1. I think this is the one you want but I cannot verify the part number.
  2. I was at my dealer yesterday and one of the mechanics was doing this. The big plug is the fill and the small plug the drain, for the transmission. I did not take a picture of the differential plugs.

  4. I use a thin bladed tool. It is a standard watch-type battery that you can get at a drug store for a few dollars. Send me your key and the address for where the car is and I will replace the battery for free. :P
  5. Someone on flat-6 has put in a B&M short shifter in a 997. http://www.flat-6.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11648
  6. Those are pictures of Dan and me working on Bruce's Boxster several years ago. I do not do it the same way anymore. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...st=0entry8247
  7. Us DIYers have replaced a few bulbs. You need to pull the instrument cluster.
  8. To change the subject a bit. I have looked at the instrument cluster on a few 997s and did not notice the voltmeter has been replaced by an oil temp gauge. I realized the change when I read the 997 tech info.
  9. If you are saying that you cannot see anything in one of the LCD displays then it is most likely a burned out bulb.
  10. Peter Smith once told me what Porsche considers normal. I think it was 1 quart per 600 miles or 1 liter per 1,000 kilometers. I would not be happy if my car used that much oil, or a quart a month unless I drove 15,000 miles a month. I change the Boxster oil every 15,000 miles and do not add oil in between changes, but I am about a quart low when it is time for the change. But I think I burn less oil than most other owners.

  12. Gary has Boxster S calipers on his C2 cab. The mirror was a joke because he keeps the car so clean and I wanted to check behind the spokes for dirt.
  13. A Boxster owner gave the same Florida company a good review. Here is it is on the Boxster side of renntech. Please ignore the plug. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...028entry17028
  14. I have been waiting 2 years for someone to ask this question. I'm serious. Porsche eliminates something from production and then someone wants to retrofit it. Like when the new style instrument cluster came out in 2001 and everyone complained because the digital speedo moved over to the left. I always though that storage thing was worthless and 1997 did not have it. It started in 1998 and went away in 2003 when the glove box came out. It is held in place with 2 plastic rivets. I do not know of any reason you cannot put one in a 2003. I do not have a 2003 handy to look out, so I assume you will have to drill 2 small hole for the plastic rivets that you will not be able to see.
  15. Get a vacum tester and a rubber hose and pull a vacum. See if the rod moves when a vacum is applied to the valve. I looks something like this.
  16. Thought you meant the rear. Do you mean you cannot get the front opened at all even if you stick your fingers under the edge and pull while someone else pulls up on the lever in the door sill.
  17. Cars with tips can glaze the pads and cause noise. But James has a manual transmission. Just a shot in the dark. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...5-9B0C45401ABC} http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...C-8A65DE9ABEE3}
  18. If she has the remote, does it pop up when the rear trunk button is pushed?
  19. Local Boxster owner Jean aka Frenchy had 5 seal replacements. (I had incorrectly reported on rennlist it was just 4.) http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...089entry11089 So he is tied with Berny. Seal #5 was put in just after the warranty expired, and it leaked as well. Frency's July message is old - he had a few more engines since then. After the 5th replacement seal leaked Porsche oked a rebuilt engine, which had a vibration problem and metal in the oil filter. 2 more rebuilt engines were put in and they also had a vibration problem. Then Porsche oked a new engine but all they had in stock was for a tiptronic and Jean has a manual transmission. Peter at our dealership rewired the engine for a manual transmission. So far so all is good with replacement engine #4. All the engine replacements were goodwill. As for how you drive the car. I live a few blocks from the freeway. I start the car in the morning and 3 minutes later I am at redline trying to enter the freeway at a decent speed to keep up with the traffic in my little 2.5 Boxster as I merge. Been doing it this way for almost 6 years. I have a 1997 that has never has had a real seal leak. Maybe the secrete is to drive the car hard when it is cold. :P
  20. All you need is the 996 insrument cluster. The 996 surround and cap are optional. And note, the 996 surround with not work with a Boxster cap. LA Porsche dismantlers is expensive. I see some things on their site I can buy new for less. You can trim the Boxster surround to fit the 996 cluster. That is what was done in the prior picture of the 2000 2.7. That is what I was going to do with my car since I have Boxster red leather and a 996 red leather cap is very expensive. Here I was measuring where I needed to cut my Boxster surround using the removed front of the 996 cluster as a pattern. Then I thought I sould make sure the ebay 996 cluster worked before I cut my Boxster surround. When I plugged in the 996 cluster it had the defective middle display. So that was the end of the project until I find another 996 cluster.
  21. http://www.broquet.com/introEnglish1.htm In 1941 RAF engineer Henry Broquet noticed that the fuel in Russia was not sufficiently high enough quality for standard aircraft engines. So he put tin in the fuel, and now his company sells heterogeneous catalyst pellets that you can put in your 21st century car with 21st century fuels. I will pass on this one.
  22. And what is it and how does it work. If you remove the battery tray you will see the top of the sender/pump and you need a special tool to remove the round locking ring.
  23. I is the round thing. Have to remove the air bag and steering wheel to ge to it.
  24. Look first then ask a question. You pull off the black cover to the left of your left foot and there is a paper sheet on the back with a listing of the fuse locations.
