  1. This is confirmed for tomorrow. Weather should be like it is today. We will see what we can do when people show up. I will bring the tools I normally bring. Henry now has a floor jack, and I think jack stands - so I will not be bringing mine. If you need something special then let me know before I load the Boxster with tools tonight.
  2. The first picture is the window sticker from a 987 S, 6 speed. The second picture is from a 997, but note it is a tiptronic. It is said that the 6 speed manual transmissions for both are made by the same company. :o What is the difference between the 2 stickers?
  3. Yes. Spoke to Henry and weather looks good.
  4. If they are the factory option then 601 is on the option sticker and you will have headlight washers. Low is Xenon and high is halogen. When you turn on high, the low beam rotates up a few degrees, to fill in with the high beam. Adjustment instructions are in the owners manual if you have one.
  5. Yeah, it is the first time I have looked under Boxsters and it was to see what was new, and not to see if it was leaking oil. :D The 987 parts list shows a middle coolant radiator with a 997 part number. It also shows the black cover as a separate part with a shroud. So I expect it is possible to add the middle radiator. The oval shapes of the interior, the retro look, are gone. But for some reason it still has the 986 interior mirror. Looks like a Cayenne to me. The ugly wheels in the pictures are a little bit better in person. I would rather have the spare in the front trunk. The front trunk is the same as a 997. I am sort of use to the cup holders since I have seen enough 997s - but I would like to meet the person who dreamed that design up. Would like to see how you can latch the top closed while you are driving. The 6 speed does a bit of a shorter throw - but not as much as a B&M. The side vents are huge and look so because the are not in body color. But Porsche really protected the intake side. Closing the rear trunk feels like the AeroKit I trunk lid. It is made of aluminum so now only has one support shock.
  6. (1) False opening on the S 6 speed for what use to be the third radiator. (2) Gap just like in the pictures. This is the S with 19" wheels. (3) Clamp for the bolt-on exhaust tip. Similiar to the 2003/4 you can bolt on the single or dual exhaust tip for a cosmetic difference. (4) Base tip. (5) Base has cross drilled rotors. No more hole envy for the base owners.
  7. I don't think so. The computer/DME is going to adapt itself when the new correct sensor is put in. For your 2.5 you need the same sensor Nadar showed in message number 64 in this link. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=659&st=0 Make sure the new sensor has the same part numbers on it as does your old sensor.
  8. Because it cost money out of Loren's pocket to keep this site online. It cost money to buy the technical stuff you want to see. Money for a server. Some of the cost is recovered by people who contribute money. There is no requirement here to donate a penny to see the message board.
  9. (1) Just came off the truck at Stevens Creek Porsche. The same 2 that all the dealers should get. (2) I do not remember the shipping battery cut-out other than on a Cayenne. (3) No dip-stick. (4) Rear trunk only has one shock - saves weight and makes you go faster - or saves Porsche money. (5) Going to have to read up on the new Boxster stuff to see if this is a spoiler switch. I forgot to look at the fuse box to see if the switch has been moved.
  10. I tried to order it last week and there are none in the US. All of the initial shipment must have been given to the mechanics when they went to 997 school. But I was able to order it today as there were 30 in Ontario.
  11. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=659&st=0
  12. Someone at VW must be scratching their head as to why they are still selling and selling a lot of these VW wires to correct an electrical problem on a 10 year old VW. And if Porsche in Germany has not figure out what we are doing, they must wonder why they sell so many 4 stalk switch assemblies or switches.
  13. If you stop by on Saturday I have one you can look at. And if my computer is working we can look up parts. :P
  14. Maybe the light is stuck in the off position so it does not go one when you open the door. The light has 3 positions. Why were you playing with it to install the cup holders.
  15. Glad you liked our amature video. Which method did you use for combining the two wires from the control unit. On a Boxster the rear release is hidden by a heat shield. Never understood why on a 996 it is behind the tail light. I spoke to a mechanic and he said they place a wedge between the tail light and the plastic bumper cover to create an opening so they can get a tool in there to fish the cable out. My friend and I came up with the tow hole relocation at a BBQ many years ago. We did not have a coat hanger to fish the cable out of the hole, so I used one of the BBQ tools I bent to get in there.
  16. That is the problem, there are no part numbers on any of the yellow wires. If the wires have been mixed up then you need to know what the pins look like when you sort through. They are shipped in a plastic bag with a part number on the bag, and if they are still in the bag then you have a better chance at getting the correct wires. If they have been removed from the bag then they get mixed up with all the yellow wires in the bin. Ask for George at the parts counter because I have shown him the difference - if he remembers. Edit. I spoke to George and they are in stock.
  17. Since Peter works for Stevens Creek and we have done lots of retrofits they usually have them in stock. They use to be a VW dealer. They have a bin with all kinds of yellow wires that look the same but do not work, so I sort through the bin to make sure I get the correct ones.
  18. They are made by AMP not Molex. I went to Fry's many years ago and did not find anything that was exactly right. Then Peter figured out what VW wires were an exact fit for an OBC retrofit. Then we started using the VW wires because they already have the correct pins crimped on and they are only $2 per wire. The wires are for a Golf recall from about 10 years ago and I have been afraid the source would dry up, so I tried to find the part number for just the pins. The pins in the pic go into the OBC connector and into the instrument cluster on a 2001 up Boxster or a 2000 up 996. I have not been able to find the pins that go into the cluster connector for a 1997-2000 Boxster/1999-2001 996 - but in reality you can get these pins in the pic into the connector and they work fine I was thinking at one time of buying the pins and making a wiring harness, but it is so much easier with the VW wires. And I am not good crimping a pin that small.
  19. The cell phone connector is not hooked up to anything. I just lays there unless you buy the female connector. I cannot think why your light and windows would not work other than a fuse.
  20. You don't. I just think the a/c display looks funny above the bat wing. Another alternative, Autoatlanta sells this and they might have a dual gauge set-up. Local owner Danny has gauges above the bat wing.
  21. Frenchy, if you fly over Henry's house - drop in..... :P If there are bad storms on Saturday I am having second thoughts. Right now the forecast says cloudy.
  22. Funny, this guy just put in the 2001 style cup holders. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3743 Move your a/c display up to where the cup holders use to be, and make a plastic plate like this. The guy was selling them on ebay but I have not seen them for a long time.
  23. How are your going to drive with a cigarette in each hand. If you wanted it lighted you also need 996 652 102 01. Might consider the non smoker socket - not sure if that holds plugs better than the lighter socket.
  24. We do it with the switch. Some people even do it with 2 switches. I would rather do it with the stalk because then it is like factory, but some owners want the switch. It is simple. There are 3 wires. Ground, and the other 2 go to 21 and 25 in the white connector to the back of the instrument cluster, for your year. There is no electricity in the wires. By moving the switch back and forth you create a grounded circuit. This is the wiring harness I make. Most people use the footwell switch but you can use any Porsche dash switch you like. If you can see the outside temp display then the trip computer is already turned on.
