  1. I can't get the link to work. The door tube and cover for the storage pocket are different on a 996. In that picture it is not clear if the panels had optional factory door speakers. I do not see the raised area where the speakers go. It might be someone cut a hole for aftermarket speakers. On a 996 without speakers there is a storage pocket where the speaker would be.
  2. A lighter flywheel is fine for a track car. You may not like it in stop and go traffic. A heavy flywheel is used to make the car driveable on the street. The dual-mass flywheel is used so the driver does not hear gearbox noise. A lighter flywheel permits the car to rev up and down faster - it does not increase power. The front engine mount on the early cars had a problem but it is obvious when the car is on the lift. The rubber bushing slides out of it's housing and the engine shifts to the side permitting it to vibrate against the body. There is a new style mount but I forget when it went into production. The mechanic can check the condition of the dual mass flywheel once the transmission is out of the car. At 66k miles replace the pressure plate, disc, and release bearing. There is a kit with all 3 parts. You should only pay for the parts as it does not take any longer to put your old or a new clutch back in.
  3. Looks like there might be a third cruise control retrofit in the works. Look at your 1998 wiring diagrams and see if there is any difference with Ed's instructions. I'm sure the DME version changed but I do not know if the wiring changed. Then you will need a PST2 to turn it on. ;)
  4. If you are dripping coolant than that will be 1 point off. The plastic tank gets a hariline tank. Same issue with the Boxster. If it is bad enough it will drip on the exhaust.
  5. I think 584 is the black plastic storage box behind the seats.
  6. As said, I have been on the UK boards for a few years so I'm sort of use to tyres, bonnet, roof, OPC, and that sort of stuff. But when they post technical pictures, like the inside of the front trunk or a fuse panel, I have took take a second look to get my orientation since it is a mirror image with some changes. They also have the funny registration rules that do not match the model year. T registration. 52 registration. I think they do it in March, and a second time in the year. I do not think they understand it. If they have a stereo question and give their registration year, not model year, I have to ask for the model year. Makes a big difference if they have a MOST car. Then they buy a car and do not drive it so they can get the next model year license plate. So the system in Australia must be like that. In the UK they do not usually retrofit litronics like we do in the US. It requires the washers and suspension sensors to pass the MOT inspection. We do not have this requirement in the US. There is such a requirement in Germany but depending on the year you just need the washers. There is a retrofit kit for the washers, but not the suspension sensors. The washers keep the beam focused where it is supposed to be.
  7. E is the female version of torx. The bolt to the right is a seat bolt. The second picture is triple square aka cheesehead aka XZN, on the left. Male torx on the right.

  9. If you asked for a Boxser then I would have a lot of pictures. This is a 996 with the head and exhaust removed from the right side.
  10. I just looked at your profile and it says you have a 2005 Boxster. I had assumed the questions were for a 986, not 987. Which Boxster model do you have as there are differences between a 986 and 987.
  11. If you mean a 987 then I have no clue. Car is too new.
  12. I think Adsach has his directions reversed but we know what he means. There use to be a good site which explained this and had pictures but I can find it. This is one that I did save with some info. http://faqlight.carpassion.info/hl-current-regulations.htm If you look at the lenses on your car you will see they are not the same. They have a different pattern. I have been on the UK Boxster board a few years and this question comes up once in a while. When they drive their RHD car to a LHD country, like France, they have to put a tape-on mask on the headlights. They cannot adjust the headlights on their RHD to make it a LHD. If they import a car from a LHD car country like Germany, then they have to put in RHD headlights. Litronics are different because they have a lever inside the headlights with 2 settings. If I remember right the settings are marked 0 and T and T is for tourist. We not not have this lever in the US, just the markings. In the UK they can switch the levers if they go to a LHD country and then not have to use the mask. But this lever does not convert a RHD litronic into a LHD litronic. What the lever does is to cut off part of the light beams so it is just like having the mask on the halogen lights. What you end up with is a RHD light with part of the beam missing, but legal in a LHD country.
  13. A support is missing but I had something else in mind. What is missing was on the back side of the 986 trunk lid.
  14. Porsche uses both. For example, look at the screws for the visors. Those are torx. Look at the screws for the door latch on the door sill. Those are triple square.
  15. The profile of the side windows changed with the 987 so a 986 hardtop will not work. The 987 hardtop has a 987 part number. Supposedly if you put 986 windows in a 987 then a 986 hardtop will work. But then you will have a problem as the 987 soft top will then not work with 986 windows. If you see the 987 and 986 next to each other it is obvious the shape of the windows are different. Also, a sales person told me the distance between the 2 mounting inserts change with the 987. But they looked the same to me. We might have a local 987 tech session in April and I am thinking of bringing my hardtop and humps and put them on a 987. I bet my humps will fit on a 987.
  16. What is 'missing' on the backside of the rear trunk lid of a US car?
  17. Just use your new caps on your existing valve stems if they fit. Save the valve stems for when it is time to replace the tires.
  18. 'T' stands for torx which has 6 points. Triple square has 12.
  19. From what I remember from when the 2003s first came out. If you have Bose then you have AudioPiolt and the GAL function does not work. AudioPiolt replaces GAL with the Bose option. Something like that.
  20. Sounds like the ignition switch which is a very old and known problem. More so since you have a 1999. When the switch is acting up it does all sorts of strange things.   21. RHD and LHD headlights have different part numbers. From what I understand the beam pattern is different and cannot be adjusted. US headlights throw light everywhere unlike other countries.

  23. Porsche sells those screws. You should go to the parts department and look at the diagram to see exactly which screws you need.
  24. You do not change a 986 cluster into a 996 cluster. You buy a 996 cluster and put it in, but it has to be from a 996 C2. Dale used a twin turbo cluster but he cannot read the oil level. A turbo gets it's oil level from and oil tank. A Boxster/996 C2 does not have an oil tank - we get the level from the engine. You cannot use a 996 C4 cluster. The C4 is AWD and has a different gas tank than a Boxster/C2, and the fuel gauge will be off. The cluster to use is for a 996 C2. Then since you have a 2004 which has MOST, I suggest the cluster be from a 2003-2004 C2 which also has MOST. For the oil pressure gauge to work you need to replace the single wire Boxster oil pressure sender with a two wire 996 sender, and run an additional wire from the sender to the instrument cluster.
  25. Red pullout is for getting into the front trunk with the electrical releases, not for charging the battery. It is has been moved within the fuse box on the new Boxster, along with the elimination of the spoiler switch. But, we have a winner. Since I am running out of trivia pictures, here is an easy one. What is missing?
