  2. Your guy is right. There is some kind of spring and the tension needs to be checked. Porsche issued a TSB in 1997 about this.
  3. I think I know what is going on. Sometime ago I asked a saleperson I know why I saw very very few 997/987 with the option sticker under the hood. He checked around and told me the car only comes with one. Yesterday I wached a mechanic I know PDI a 997. I searched the car and there was only one sticker.
  4. This is interesting. Us Box owners do not have this issue. We get the housing with the rubber bushing - except on our cars it is an engine mount - not transmission. So after the tech session at an independent shop today I went by the local dealer on the way home. 2 of the mechanics I know where there doing their personal stuff in the shop. Both said they have replaced this mount on a 996, but it was not pounded out of a Box engine mount and put in a 996 transmission. Then one of the mechanics went on the parts computer and could not find a 996 transmission mount, just like Loren said. The other mechanic thought this part was sold as an aftermarket part. It might be hard to understand but there is a 'back' parts department at my local dealer that you never see as a customer. A mechanic needs a part and the back parts person gives it to him. The mechanic does not pay attention to where the part comes from or the number since that is not his job.
  5. Look at this from 2 months ago. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...95&hl=auto+body I was told the car was owned by a local body show owner named Dell. Means nothing to you unless you are local, and know that Dell's Autobody Refinishing is a local shop that has worked on Porsches for many years. Over the years I have spoken to 2 local body shop owners that paint plastic, rubber, and metal for a living. Both shops have painted my Box in the 6 years I have owned it. When I tell them that there is a claim that painting Porsche plastic and rubber is different than, let's say a Honda, then I get one of those looks. 14 stage special process..... So I met Dell today for the first time at the local tech session. Hard not to notice the vents on his Box. Then he pointed out the plastic and rubber parts that had been painted silver. He said he prepares the surface to make it smooth, uses the proper primer, and a flex agent in the paint. The more a part can flex like the bumperetts the more flex agent he uses. No mystery, and exactly what I was told by the other 2 local body shop owners. Oh, and Dell said the side vents facing different directions are intentional. They were made by hand and made of metal. I thought at least one side of the car had been hit and that is why he did it, but he said no, he did it just to do something different.
  6. Can you double check this tool part number. 3 parts guys at my dealer cannot find it in the computer. So today I went to my dealer and had the shop foreman who is the 997 PCA tech advisor look for it and he could not find it either. And how about a picture of the tool like this so I can see what it looks like.

  8. Thanks for the rack info. That little O-ring is for the turbo. The oil filter cannister on a turbo is different than a 996/986. Jeff must have thought you had a turbo.

  11. This is the O-ring for the filter cannister, and it is not little. It should be in the box with the filter. I think your part number is for the oil pan drain plug. Tell Jeff to get back to me on the price for a rebuilt power steering rack....
  12. 436 is the option code for a 3 spoke steering wheel, so that I guess that is why you have it on a 2.5. What country are you in? Here is the normal colored crest.
  13. That is not a good picture so I do not know what you have. Is that crest glued onto another crest. This is what we call the silver crest used for 2000. Actually it is silver and black.
  14. Happened to me in my Box. Added air horns before the body shop put on the new bumper cover.

  16. The 2000 S had a silver crest. Don't know what you mean by gold and black. In a prior post you said you have a 1999 2.5 which came with a 4 spoke steering wheel unless you got the sport design option. Looks like someone put a different wheel on your car.
  17. If it sounded like a frog I might have a suggestion where to look.... Bring your car to the tech session this Saturday and ask one of the guys who works at the shop.
  18. The muffler from a 1997-1999 mounts differently than 2000-2004. So you need to buy an adapter bracket 000 044 200 11. http://jp.tripout.co.uk/photos/stuff/s_exhaust/zorst.htm There is a 2.5 muffler on ebay for $49 but you need to search under Porsche Boxter.

  21. The first time I removed a spoiler almost 6 years ago was also to put a sticker on. I reused the rivets. Just push the pins back in. I have not seen these rivets on the 2003/4 facelift and not sure how to remove the spoiler on those years. When I looked at the 987 when it first came out I noticed the rivets were being used again, just like 1997-2002. So let us know how to remove a 987 spoiler.

You will talk to Russell or Ron in the morning.
  23. It may not be the transmission, could be a CV joint where the bolts have backed out. At least this can happen with the boxster. Could be something else. Since you already have it at the dealer (no clue which one since there are a few in the Bay Area) let them see if it is the transmission. They can tell if you have an internal transmission problem without removing the transmission and taking it apart, unless you have a stupid mechanic. No sense in having the transmission opened to tell you there is a problem, since they will not fix it and tell you to get a rebuilt. Since I assume you are out of warranty next time if Sunnyvale is close you should take your car here. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4742
