  1. This is an aftermarket one-piece wheel bolt.
  2. Just to be silly, are you going over 75 mph? Place some masking tape accross the spoiler and go past 75 and see if the tape is broken. I spoke to Peter. There is a relay to raise and another relay to lower, but if it goes up and down with the switch then the relays and the switch are good. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...E-EF0FF63FD3CC} The speed signal for the spoiler comes from the instument cluster. You might have a bad cluster.
  3. I can't think of any reason it will not work. The change to the instrument cluster did not happen until model year 2001.
  4. People either do not screw them in because they do not want to put holes in the carpet, or if you buy them from the parts department they take the mats out of the box and throw the box away not knowing the 4 pads are in the box.
  5. You remove the blanks just as you would a switch. The connectors to the switches just pulls off but it is a tight fit.
  6. I see you have a rare Artic Silver. :D Ask away with any question and we will guess the answers.
  7. Remove the radio and a/c display. Get something thin and pry off the side pods with the switches. You will then see screws you remove to remove the housing with the vents.
  8. You have the same publications I do and I have not looked at them recently to figure out what exactly has changed over the years. So take this with a grain of salt. The 1997 hardtop had "ears" on each side to mount the original version of the RTS. You pulled off the painted plastic ears for the mounting points underneath. For 1998 the RTS design changed and it was no longer necessary to use the ears to mount the RTS. So the ears on the hardtop were eliminated around 1998.
  9. I changed the plugs on a Boxstir. I wonder how hard it was to pull the spark plug tube out. While one of the plugs were out I stuck my finger in the tube and it just pulled out. It is just a friction fit from the 2 O-rings. There is a special tool to pull the tubes out but the mechanics I know do not use it. They just pry the tube out. In my case I was able to use just a finger, perhaps because the engine was a bit warm. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=149&hl=
  10. Over the years there have been reports of flying insects setting off the alarm or a faulty alarm control unit. Push the button twice for a few weeks to disable the interior alarm. If you still get the false alarms then it is something else. A shop with a PST2/PIWIS can read out the reason the alarm has been going off.
  11. Questions. What do you mean when the infrared alarm is turned on. How do you turn it on. It the top up or down when you turn on the infrared alarm. When the horn sounds randomly is the horn going off like when the alarm has gone off and the outside lights are blinking.
  12. Right or passenger side is 986 561 480 01.
  13. My wiring diagrams only go up to 2001, so you have to ask Loren.
  14. You buy the parts and if you buy the beer and show up at a local work on cars day we show you how to do the retrofit. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...st=0entry8128 http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...st=0entry6089
  15. There is a listing for them I think. I see them for XNY which is artic silver but then different part numners for XCA, which I guess is a different shade of silver. The part number for the long piece with air bag word on it is 996 552 959 10. The codes next to the part number is LL/R03-. LL means it is for a left hand drive car. I assume R03- is for 2003 up. The next code next to the part number I gave is XCA. Double check with your parts department.
  16. There is a switch on the brake lever. When this switch gets funky the top will not work. Remove the center console and replace the switch. Porsche improved the design of the switch several years ago. It only cost a few dollars.
  17. Somewhere I have the number for the antenna adapter, but as peter said if you have the amp in the front trunk it is not going to work with an aftermarket head unit.
  18. For $110 I will remember how to remove the console. :P Here it is sitting on the soft top.
  19. 3. Taka came over to my office and my working cd changer was put in his car and his non working cd changer was put in my car. We both have the CDR-210 radios. My changer worked in his car, but his changer did not work in my car. Then we swapped magazines with the same result. His changer must be bad. I think he has sent it in for service.
  20. Some 2000s had a bad relay. I would think most would have failed by now and replaced under warranty. To see if it has the new style then you remove the relay and look for a black dot on the base where the pins are.
  21. If someone has a plan then let me know. I talked to Henry about July 16th at his house as a maybe. A local Boxster owner wants to retrofit lits and another needs to fix his horn plate. I will see what Madam No Fear is up to. She does the B&M installs.
  22. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...Shell+Transaxle
  23. I have not seen instructions. I watched a mechanic I know do it because he had to replace an air bag control unit which is under the radio. Way different procedure than a 996/986. I took a bunch of pictures but it was dark in the shop and only a few came out. I did not make a note of each step but I think I could remember if a local owner gives me their car to practice on. :D What is unique with the 987 is how you remove the shift knob. You lift up the boot just like a 986 but then you need to unlock the knob before you can pull it off. There is a black plastic locking ring that you rotate to unlock the knob - then pull it off. Porsche has a monolopy on shop manuals. Peter told me for the 987 it will not be in paper form.
  24. I did not look at the date on the 2 German cars. They could not have been on the lot for more than 2 weeks. My dealer got their 2 launch cars in January like all other dealers. Both were made in Finland. There are 2 people who have recently done the factory tour in Zuffenhausen and they reported seeing Boxsters being made. I guess it is true.
  25. Bob Grisby in Mountain View. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4742
