  1. It is power steering fluid. If you have a turbo it is also used for the power assisted clutch. It feels light a light weight oil and has a green tint. Check the reservoir.
  2. Are you saying that neither the high, low, and fog lights do not work on just one side? Also, I assume you have litronics. Were they a factory install or a retrofit?
  3. Looks like you guys are mxing 996s and 997s together. The factory short shifters are not the same and I do not know if they interchange.
  4. There is no fix for a broken drive cable. It needs to be replaced. This is not my picture but I saw a car (it was a 2002) just like this 2 weeks ago being worked on by Van. The twisting of the cable as the top goes up and down causes it to fail. Never seen this happen on a 1997-2000 with the original style cables that were sided. On 1997-2000 there was a left and a right cable. On the newer cars there are still 2 cables, but they are identical as there is no left and right . The old style sided cables had all the little wires running in one direction for the left side and in the other direction for the right side. I will have to look at the one cable fits both sides and see if this feature was eliminated and that is why they fail.
  5. They have been in for 4 months and they are fine. I have notice no difference from the original pads. Just remember they do not have the hole for the sensor.
  6. The internal lense has 3 sides to it. These are pictures of the lense from an AMBER headlight. That is why the pictures of the lense show a CLEAR, not amber, lense. These pictures are from the broken headlight on my 1997 with standard halogen amber headlights. You do not do the modification on this type of headlight. The pictures are for illustration purposes only. The headlight in the pictures was destroyed to get the 3-sided lense out in one piece. I do not know any other way to get the lense out in one piece. The internal lense is way to big to pull out through the exterior bulb holder. You need to melt it, cut it, or otherwise break it into smaller pieces so it can be pulled out of the bulb holder opening. A dremel tool will work, instead of the heat method.
  7. We had a 1997 owner and when he locked and unlocked the car the drivers side made a racket due to a bad locking solenoid, but the door locked and unlocked. The noise was from inside the door. Passenger side made no noise. Since it worked and the repair cost was expensive he left it alone. This was a few years ago. Don't know if he ever had it fixed.
  8. Where does the sound come from?
  9. I am not going to take the clamshell off the car anymore. The guys at Stevens Creek Porsche showed me how they do it on the car. Saves time and just takes a few seconds when it is still on the car. Van and I and Peter and I have rebent mine twice on the car. The only thing is you need 2 people.
  10. no more rubber plug for faux dipstick? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is it. 2005 had a rubber plug for where the dipstick would be. No plug on the 2006s I looked at. As a joke I was going to take the dipstick from my 986, remove the plug on a 987, put my dipstick in and take a picture. But the 2006s at my dealer had no plug. The picture below is a 2005 with the plug removed.
  11. I don't think so. I have been told the one-touch is a function of the control unit under the seat and that the setting cannot be changed.
  12. I asked Peter how how removes a broken stud on the exhaust flange. He pounds it out but supports the back of the flange with a large hammer. Does not use heat. I did not ask but I assume it is best to do this with 2 people.
  13. When we started filming for the DIYer DVDs a few years ago I did not think there was enough interest at the time in top repairs, so we never filmed top stuff. Little did I know....
  14. Each of the 3 LCD displays has a bulb behind it. You need to remove the cluster to replace the bulb. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...4&hl=instrument
  15. What changed for 2006 compared to 2005 in this picture? Picture is a 2006.
  16. If it is like this then a BFH. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...ic=1006&hl=stud
  17. Here is the latch out of the car and you can see the 2 wires for the switch. You need to remove the headlights and then the black plastic cover for the latch. The cover has these black round things you turn a few degrees with a screw driver so you can lift the cover off. Then you can see the latch.
  18. No clue about Mercedes coolant. Does it have a name of a company that makes it and a list of the chemicals. As an aside, several months ago Porsche began selling coolant in 1 gallon containers. When I took this picture in January it was to get a list of the chemicals. I just noticed it says made in USA, if you look at the lower right hand corner.
  19. There is an electrical switch on the latch. That switch is for the light and the alarm. I think you can buy just the switch. I do not know if it is sealed.
  20. Checked with the part department and there is a 4th generation seal. They did not have any in stock. And according to the computer there were only 4 in Ontario, CA Peter did not know about a new tool, so if there is one it must not be a the dealership yet.
  21. Depending on what bulbs you replaced, you might be replacing the wrong ones. There are also bulbs inside the cluster. There are 2 with green bulb holders that are used to illuminate the analog dials.
  22. Here is the Traffic Pro gps antenna. I think it is identical in size to what is used for PCM. Someone said it is also the same size used by Garmin. You might also remove the A/C display to give yourself some room to work.
  23. And pull it towards you just a bit.
  24. If it is the old style wheel center cap with the colored crest then you are missing the last 3 digits of the part number which is 9A1.
  25. Well, the C4 was gone today, but not under it's own power. Story is that it is being sent to Florida for a 3.8 engine transplant or some sort of transplant. Here is the CGT clutch. Looks like a motorcycle clutch.
