  1. You can order what Porsche calls a stipulated key. You supply the VIN and the key is cut from that. When I replaced my missing valet key years ago that is what I did. My dealer had the key cutting machine but the parts guys did not like to use it. You can open the doors, console, and turn on the ignition with just the metal key shank. But the car will not start. So if the lost keys have been deleted from the control unit but they later show up, you can still get into the car. To program a new key you need a key learning code from Porsche, and a PST2/PIWIS to code it to the car. Problem is, Porsche will not give out that code to just anyone. In the old days the dealer faxed a request form to Reno/Atlanta, and Reno/Atlanta faxed back another form with the code. I guess it is done electronically now. In my area we have 2 independent shops that have a PST2. Porsche will not give them the codes. They have to ask a Porsche dealer who then has to ask Porsche for the code.
  2. One bar on the oil gauge is very little oil. If you have way too much oil it can get sucked into the intake and you will know because of the smoke out side the tail pipe. Nothing for you to be concerned about.
  3. Just a note. My January 1997 original tank did not have o-rings for the bleeder. Instead, it had a rubber diaphragm, thus this picture. Looks like a bleed valve change hapened for model year 1998. Since my replacement tank is a .07 then I should now have the bleed valve with the o-rings.

  6. I cannot see your car over the internet. If one end of the clamshell is not flush with the body of the car then the clamshell was tweaked/bent when the top operation failed. All I can see in your picture is that a portion of the clamshell is not flush with the body of the car, and since I cannot see your car or the other end of the clamshell I do not know why. This is an example of a tweaked clamshell, where the clamshell is not yet in the fully closed postion..

  8. Here are the cracks in my Boxster tank. You have the old cap, so replace it. If it were me I would replace the suspect tank since it is already out.
  9. The switch above the top motor was only on 1997-1999, so you do not have it. The black plastic wedges are to adjust the height of the clamshell if needed.

  13. It has been said that that engine cooling is improved with the C4S type bumper cover enough that it doesn't need the third radiator.
  14. The transmission has to come out of the car to replace the cable. In this pic the left is the new style and on the right is the old style. You can see the cable going to each transmission.
  15. Remove the V-lever bolt with a 19 mm socket. It takes some effort to break the bolt free because there is locktite on the bolt threads. Then remove the round plastic protection plate behind the V-lever. Then pull back the black plastic foam to expose the transmission. The transmission is bolted to the car with three 13 mm nuts. Remove the nuts and then pull the transmission away from the three mounting studs. You have a 2001 with the new style transmissions. The old cable will just pull out of the transmission. Your replacement push rod will have a white plastic ball joint, instead of red. Don't you wish you could buy just that plastic ball joint instead of the entire push rod....
  16. From a quick Google search it looks like the "Litronic" trade name for HID/Xenon belongs to Bosch, not Porsche. According to this, Bosch did come out with a Bi-Litronic, for the Audi A8. http://aa.bosch.de/advastaboschaa/Product....B&publication=1 I guess if Bosch instead of Hella got the contract for the facelift 996/turbo then the xenon lights would be called Bi-Litronics. The 987 Bi-Xenon lights are made by Koito. http://www.koito-ind.co.jp/english/index.html It looks like the original 601 option code for litronics never changed when the Bi-Xenons came out.

  18. That is a new one. Some pads have a locating pin. But even with the pin there is no specific left or right side pad.
  19. After I was hit the cover was replaced, and the grills replaced at the same time. Not worth playing around with. The only thing I checked when the cover was off was to make sure both of the horns work. The horn closest to the ground is known to go bad. If you have a bad horn the time to replace it is when the cover is off.
  20. It is not clear to me. Did you in fact have to drill the holes for the roll bar clips on your 987. If so, were there dimples in the roll bar so you would know where to drill. Good job. I am going to ask my local dealer how much they charge for such a simple install.
  21. Remove the other black plastic cover that has the light and see if it is there. Your cars have 2 covers. We have just one. This is what you are looking for.
  22. And, so, the 987 rattle mystery is now solved.... Not, not, my pic.
  23. It is for the child seat air bag deactivation bar. Also looks like an air bag light fix has been done from the picture.
