  1. I had thought they were only for model year 1997. I have a 1997 and my factory hardtop has the ears. On the parts list it is listed only for a 1997. But, we have a local owner with a model year 1998 with the factory option and he also has the ears. For sure they were gone for model year 1999. The purpose was to attach the roof transport system (RTS). Then Porsche changed the way the RTS attached and the ears were eliminated.
  2. This is why I let the women tighten the steering wheel nuts....
  3. Can you sew? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-Box...1QQcmdZViewItem
  4. The shift lever is a flat blade. It is not a round threaded shaft like other cars. One of our local owners, Danny, has a Momo. I think he had to make the hole in the shift knob larger.
  5. Would like to hear the muffler when you get it.
  6. Kim said it well. When you select high beam the xenon low beam rotates up a few degrees to fill in with the halogen high beam, if there is the control unit hooked up. Without the control unit you will have 2 beams that are not combined to be at the high beam level. No big deal but this is not how it was designed to max out the light output. But, plenty of people do not install the control unit or if they buy used lits they do not have the unit to install.
  7. You check the engine operating hours in the DME unless someone has found a way to tamper with that data, or the DME has been replaced.
  8. If it has 12 points then it is what I call triple square, also known as XZN or fluted allen, like my pic. On my car it is 8 mm. Torx has 6 points, not 12. Never seen it at Sears.
  9. The clear lights have an internal lense for the turn signal. Sometimes a flash picture or the angle of the camera will make the lights look amber when they are really clear. The lights on renntech should be clear since they come from a 2000 996.
  10. I'll sell you my 996 clears for what I paid, $300. But you will also have to buy the car.... http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=8894 You might try mickey/Scott. He has been selling them on ebay. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=5328 These sold for $500 last week. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread....threadid=280016
  11. Pre-2002 996s clear halogen and litronic headlights have a diamond pattern under the clear plastic lense. They also have 996 part numbers. 986 halogen headlights have lines, no matter if they are the 1997-2002 ambers or 2003-2004 clears. They have 986 part numbers. 986 litronics have the diamond pattern because they are 996 parts. The clear halogen 986 headlights from 2003-2004 fit the pre-2002 996s. I have 996 clears on my 1997 Box. Paid $300 but it is hard to find a deal like that.
  12. You insensitive 996 owners.... And then the Porsche gods also gave us 986 Boxstir owners clear rears.
  13. Porsche gave the lowly 986 Boxster clear halogen headlights in 2003 and 2004. There is a minor cosmetic difference compared to 996 clears, but you 996 owners would never notice. :P
  14. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3389
  15. The TSB says that if you do not have the external amp that you hook the rear speakers up to the back of the radio, as was done on 1997-2002.
  16. It is called a push rod. The plastic joint is now made out of white plastic, instead of red. The part number above is correct.
  17. 2003 was the first year for MOST and I always wondered if you could use a pre MOST cluster. A user radio code was eliminated when MOST came out. I always thought the cluster would work, but I wondered how you would get the radio to work. I think the codes in the radio and cluster are based on the VIN. I would see if you can erase the 996 VIN in the cluster and put in your VIN. Or, erase your VIN in the radio and put in the 996 VIN. I'm guessing, because I do not know anyone who has back dated a cluster.
  18. I have always wondered if you could do this swap. Your radio is looking for the code in the cluster, which it cannot find since you replaced the cluster.
  19. I saw the same thing on a 2003 Boxster. The end of the shaft where the bolt is broke.
  20. No experience with that plug. If the 6 in the part number is the heat range then that is correct for your year. Try them out and let us know.
  21. The bottom of the car has 3 black plastic panels/covers, front to back. In order to replace the filter you must remove the middle cover, and it sure helps to remove the rear cover. This is not easy to do unless the car is on a lift. Or, you jack up one side of the car on your driveway high enough that you can get under the car and do the work.
  22. The pic above is not mine. This is.
  23. You need to indicate your location. Like what state you live in. If you are in the US.
