  1. The shape of the front lids are different. I have not checked out the rear.
  2. That is the way it was prior to 2002 on the 996 and prior to 2001 on the 986. Then Porsche came out with what I call the new style cluster and the digital speed display moved. We were not happy back then when the change was made. You cannot move the display.
  3. I used the original 15W-50 red cap for 7 years in my Box. When it was discontinued I investigated the EP gold cap line, including the 15W-50 EP. Just bought 9 quarts of 15W-50 EP for my 60k oil change that I need to do. Guess that if I put it in I will not go to Porsche heaven.
  4. There is one on US ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...TRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
  5. If the fuse blew because the cell phone connector shorted to ground then you can place some tape on the end of the connector. Porsche started doing this for model year 2003 with the 986.
  6. This is the original coolant from when I replace the tank on my 1997 Boxster last year. This is what new coolant looks like.
  7. The first one is in inch pounds. You want the second one that is in foot pounds.
  8. Looks like the mounting point for the pushrod broke off the top frame. Not good. $$$. Look at the other side of your top to determine what part the broken piece came off of. Then go to your dealer's parts department, with cash.
  9. Your profile says you have a 2000. A 1999 - 2001 996 C2 cluster will work. Do not get a C4 or turbo cluster. If the OBC was not turned on in the 996 cluster then you can have it turned on once it is in your car. The OBC is in the cluster, not the car.
  10. The light is a warning light if the spoiler does not come up.
  11. Forget what I said. Need new glasses. The front kit for a 3.2 is 996 351 959 01. Note the 351 in the part number vs 352. Since the S has larger front brakes that kit is different.
  12. Like Loren said, the kit is the same for the front and rear, and it is the same on all 986s. No clue why there is a price difference.
  13. We always remove the shift. But I have seen pictures on the message boards of guys removing the console without removing it. Lift up on the bottom of the boot to unclip it. When it is time to remove the console you angle the boot so it will go through the hole in the console. Just realized you are in the 997 section and what I said above is for 996/986. Don't know anyone who has tried it the way you want on a 997/987.
  14. We reuse them, as does the local dealer.
  15. If you get down to the San Jose airport there is Intex. They sell pads made by Remsa for about $40. These pads are repackaged under different names, such as Qualitee. The friction rating for the base front is FE. They have the holes for the sensors. We have put these pads in a local 2.5 and the owner likes them. http://www.intexap.com/
  16. Those door hinge kits have been around for a while. Close your eyes....
  17. That Jeep RHD conversion was for sale on US Ebay a few months ago by a dealer on the East Coast. For mail delivery. I guess it would be hard to reach the turn signals. Maybe someone from Australia should try to sell New Zealand and convert them to LHD....
  18. The picture in the link may not be what they are selling. Just a stock picture of a rotor. Zimmermann does sell cross-drilled rotors for the base Boxster. Easy to find on ebay, and the picture below is from ebay for the front base Box. Zimmermann and SHW have sites. http://www.otto-zimmermann.de/english/page...wirueberuns.htm http://sprimag.de/web-de.nsf/Webstart-ENG-Master?OpenPage
  19. After 7 year of Boxstering and having seen messages on the boards and from vendors, claiming that Zimmermann makes the rotors, I had some doubt. Also, check out this PCA article. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...3-30B2B010D1D5} Last year we discussed the rotor vendor issue on a German Boxster board. There is some issue and I am not sure if it has to do with their TUV approval, or Zimmermann is no longer a vendor, or Zimmermann is not the same quality, or they produce an A rotor and a B aftermarket rotor.. http://www.staunet.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php...ighlight=#44293 You may have to register to see the German Boxster board link. The guy on rennlist claimed they are made by the German based company SHW. I sent SHW an email 2 months ago and got no response. The rennlist poster was going to check into it, but so far no new info. Then there are the claims the rotors are made by Brembo. Since Porsche makes nothing, I think they are made by the lowest bidder in China. :D http://www.autonews.com/assets/PDF/CA410515.PDF
  20. Porsche issued a TSB on May 18, 1998, that explains the difference between the hardtop versions, and the new style RTS. The RTS produced from January 1998 no longer included the hardware necessary to mount the RTS directly to the hardtop. Instead, you were to mount the RTS to the car with a hardtop the same way used for a car than only had the soft top. Thus, the reason the "ears" and hardtop hardware/adapter were eliminated. The last sentence in post #4 is not accurate per the TSB.

  22. I have remove about 50 steering wheels over the years, for the OBC retrofit and/or 3 for 4 spoke swap. We have also filmed same. I always bring my torque wrench and torque the nut to 35 foot pounds. There is no threadlock on the nut. There is a spring washer under the nut. We reuse the nut and washer and have never used loctite. Never had a problem.
