  1. A tip as an extra wire that is cut and goes to nothing. It is red with a yellow stripe. No clue why there is that wire, because a manual transmission does not have it. You can see the cut wire in the left of the picture, pointing in the direction of the blue connector.
  2. You are not the first. I removed the locking bolts and put standard ones on long ago. Not because my key broke, but because they are a pain. It has been said they are made by McGard, but I have never seen a source other than Porsche. I think it is special to Porsche. There are about 30 different keys. My dealer writes the key number on the option sticker. Otherwise you have to get the car in. Or, I guess you can take your broken key in and see if the can match it and order you another. Or, borrow their key if they will let you and get standard bolts.
  3. Boxster is etched into the metal on the red car. It is not a sticker.
  4. Your part number is for one black plastic sill used on the S as standard equipment. The 2.5 Boxster did not come with sill plates. As an option you could order stainless or carbon, but there was never a plastic version. The part number for a pair of the base Boxster (no S logo) in stainless is 986 551 981 01.
  5. That is Rami from Belgium twin turbo PSI conversion on a 2001 S. Like you, his car never looks the same from day to day. http://www.ramis-porsche.com/index.htm Maybe you can let me drive the Gemballa conversion next time I'm in Queensland. :( I might even learn how to shift with my left hand....
  6. It has been said to vacuum out any dirt in the switches.
  7. I have seen the one on Amazon at Porsche shops. It is made by Assenmacher. It is just like the Hazet.
  8. Behind the mic grill is a torx screw, and another torx screw behind the oval emergency flasher button. On the 996 you also need to remove the oval trim piece for the button to get to the right side screw. Then you lift the cluster up and out of the car after you disconnect the 3 connector to the back of the cluster, and the connector to the flasher switch. If your mic is small enough you should be able to ge it behind the grill. This is a Boxster. For 2003/4 with Bose there is actually a mic for the AudioPilot feature.
  9. 987 is the same as 986 etc. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...;hl=hazer++2169 Poke around ebay and you will find one. Also fits some VW, Mercedes, and BMW. This one will work. The 2 bolts that go in the side are for a Mercedes, but it will work on a Boxster. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Oil-Wrench-...emZ170010459001 This is the one I have. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hazet-Porsc...1QQcmdZViewItem $30 is a little high so shop around.
  10. Steering wheel is on the wrong side....
  11. Chris Huck at Pioneer Centers in San Diego has done this to his 987.
  12. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...amp;#entry10610
  13. He removed the side windstop clips to paint. You can drill out the pop rivet, paint, than rivet them back on. The rollbar padding is secured with round black plastic bushings that can also be reused.
  14. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...mp;p=16487&
  15. I think you have an extra digit typo. 996-618-211902 should most likely be... 996 618 219 02 ... which is the most recent part number for the air bag control unit behind the bat wing.
  16. Congrads for the first non e-gas retrofit that I know of. You might want to write it up and then Loren can put it in a special section.
  17. From the cars I have seen I think 1999 was the first year for the vertical style oil separator.
  18. The 986 replacement tank is a 987 tank. The dip stick hole has a plastic plug, just like a 987, which as you found out needs to be removed for use in a 986. I found this out last year when I was geting ready to put in my 986 ebay tank. I took the ebay tank to the parts guy and asked him to show me the latest "tank." What he showed me was a tank with no hole for the dip stick. Then we checked PET and found out you use the 987 style tank. Then I talked to one of the mechanics. He had put in the 987 tank in a 986 and then realized it did not have the hole, but was able to remove the plastic plug. You can see the 987 tank on the left, and my 986 tank on the right with the hole.
  19. If you are lucky you can pivot the lever locking cam to the unlock position and then raise the levers. The mechanical way. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...c=2751&st=0 The other way is to apply 12 volts to fuse C3 per the TSB. The electrical way.
  20. I do not know about a relay. Ask if it is the control unit behind the bat wing that is bad.
  21. I'm missing something. The front trunk on a 1999 is mechanical. Why can't you lift up the lever to open the trunk? If you cannot lift up the lever then the only reason I can think of is if the alarm was on and then the battery was disconnected. If the lever is locked down because of the alarm then there are several ways to get into the front trunk.
  22. The jack point is in the fuseboard, but only for model year 2001 and newer.
  23. The Cayman frames are 987 504 749 02 01C and 987 504 750 02 01C. The mounting clips for the frames are the same for 987/Cayman so I guess they are not needed. For the price he charges I would think the frames were included. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/show...ght=cayman+vent
  24. The 986 did not have this feature. Do you think the 987 does?
  25. You need Cayman mounting frames and I think some clips.
