  1. I see that the 987S has it's own part numbers that are not 986 part numbers. Sachs made the 986 clutch. Don't know if that changed for the 987S. Maybe your parts department will let you look at one and see what name is one it. I do not know any 987 owners that have had to replace the clutch already.
  2. There have been problems with this Audi unit, usually with the display. And it is expensive. A replacement unit does have to be coded to your car, otherwise it will just flash when you hook it up. Watch out for ebay as I have seen defective units there. Might try a wrecker. Also, I think you can only use a unit from another 2001.
  3. The switch was originally for a 2001 turbo so that is the reason for the 01 model listing. That year had gloss switches. A02 is the color code for a gloss switch. That is the one you need for your 2000 C4 since it also has gloss switches. In 2002 the switches had a matt finish. A05 is the color code for matt, and that is why it is for 2002 onward.

  5. The storage bin for just above the batwing where the DSP unit is is 996 552 243 01 01C. Do you actually own a model year 1999 with the DSP option? The reason I ask is that I have never seen it in person on a 1999, but it is shown in the Porsche publications for 1999. First time I saw it in person was for model year 2000.
  6. Richard is a wise old man. This is interesting and I guess a function of how the PST2 searches to find what it thinks it should find. At least with a 2003-4. Peter replaced the DME on my 1997 last year. But before it was replace I got a printed log of all the data in the DME. My order type (986310 for my US car), the country code, engine type, engine number, and so on. It even had my radio code on the print out that I had added to the DME a few years ago with a PST2, because the factory had not entered it. So, the new DME had a bunch of zeros. Peter entered my VIN. I asked him to also enter the radio code. Nothing else was entered. That is why I have even more zeros than shown in the pic. So, today, I look at the DME data. My order type is now 000000, since Peter did not enter it when the DME was replaced. Maybe I should enter 996620 for the US 996 turbo.... :eek: I guess that would be 996621 for a UK turbo.
  7. This is a new one. Didn't think you could get the plastic cannister back on if the filter was not seated in the tube properly, but stuff happens.... See if you can get a picture of the filter.
  8. We had a 2003 Boxster from Mexico show up at a tech session in Santa Cruz, California. It was just like a euro car. No stickers, bumperetts, or pre cats.
  9. I did not take the sensor out, just the grill. It was a long time ago and I think I did it to show the hidden screw behind the grill for when you want to remove the side vent. With the heater on you should get warm air from all the vents. No clue what is going on in your car.

This was one of the first 2003s made. Months later when we tried another 2003 the PST2 was searching for something that it could not find, so the OBC could not be turned on. Peter then figured out the model number was missing from the DME. He entered the missing model number and was then able to turn on the OBC. He also speculated that you might be able to put in any 6 digit code, like 123456. Also, there is a slight misstatement in the link. It says you cannot enable the OBC without first installing the stalk assembly. This is not true. With all the OBC retrofits I have done, including the two 2003s, I had Peter enable the OBC long before I did the retrofit. We need to have it turned on when the dealership is opened during the week, but we do not get around to doing the retrofit until the weekend at someones house. What is correct, is that when it is enabled on a 2001-2004 you will not see anything until you retrofit the stalk or switch.

A BMW named Jim Powell has been doing this for many years. http://www.apexcone.com/JimPowellHomepage/.../RadarLove.html I contacted him about 5 years ago to see if he could do a Boxster mirror, because of it's funny shape. He had done Porsche mirrors before but could not remember if he had done a Boxster. He wanted me to send in my mirror and the charge to put in the remote was $150 or $250, I don't remember. He also supplied the remote for the price. I did not follow up because I did not have a V1, just the local guys. Then about 2 years ago I started seeing Porsche V1 mirrors sold by a local company for some crazy price. Contacted the company and they were made by Jim, so he would no longer do a mirror for a private customer. There is another company that does the same thing with the V1 remote in the mirror. They are done a little bit differently from what I remember. A local 996 coupe owner named Doug has had them both. The problem he said is that you cannot see the display when it is bright outside. So I figured it was not much use to me because my top is always down and I do not drive much at night.
  12. If they are not going to charge you you can have it turned on and then maybe later do the retrofit.
  13. The instrument cluster changed in 2001. If you have the OBC turned on for a 2001-2004 you will not see anything unless you retrofit a switch or stalk. And with a 2003-4 there is an extra step that usually needs to be done before it can be turned on.

  18. You pry off the single large trim piece. Start at a corner and work your way around. Pic is a 2003.
  19. There is a fan behind the grill for the inside air temp. Are you dissecting that poor 1997....
  20. Do you have Bi-Xenon headlights? If so it sounds like the suspension sensor. There is also one on the left rear.
  21. The rear speakers did not become an option until around 1999 when DSP came out.
  22. The seat belt buckles on the early cars had tin plated electrical contacts. Porsche switched to gold plated years ago. There is a kit with new buckles and ground wires. That kit was put in by the dealer for the second fix and no problems since then. This is the most common reason for the light. My car was long out of warranty but it was done as "goodwill." I don't think Porsche does this for free anymore. The other problem is a bad control unit - but that is far less common. If you look in the 996 section of this board there is a guy who cleaned the tin plated contacts with electrical cleaner and he said the light is off.   24. I have a 1997 with the sport package and it did not come with the OBC stalk. I did the retrofit. The sport touring package came with the OBC stalk, and other stuff. This package was a $6,680 option back then. I do not remember traction control as being part of a package back then. My car has had 2 air bag light fixes. The last was about 5 years ago and no light since then. This is a typical issue on the older cars. As is the ignition switch if yours has not already been replaced.
