  1. If it is the horn that you can see then the shop manual says you can remove it from the opening in the bottom of the bumper cover. I can't get my hands/tool in there, but that is what the shop manual says. Also, I think someone in the 996 section got in that area through the fender liner rather than removing the bumper cover.
  2. Replacement regulators use to come with 2 stops installed that were blue plastic and were held in place with a torx screw. You left in the upper stop for a Boxster. The new replacement regulators I have seen come with the lower stop riveted in place. The upper stop and rivet is in a plastic bag. Those stops are white plastic. Did not ask the mechanic why the window travel is different on 986/996. At least that is what I remember.
  3. The headlight is made by Bosch. Bosch has sold it's lighting division. Do not know any source for parts.
  4. It is the electronics in the control unit. Not the switch, and there is no relay for the windows. The windows run through the control unit under the driver's seat. This unit is also for the "comfort" features, the alarm, and other stuff. 1997 was the first year. It is an odd year. I have a 1997. You cannot even get a new 1997 remote key to work with a 1998 control unit. I went through this about 6 years ago with Peter Smith on my car. Too expensive to get the one-touch up on the passenger side. But I did buy a used 1999 control unit on ebay. One of these days....
  5. One-touch up on the passenger window does not work on a US 1997. That feature started for model year 1998.
  6. My name is Kills Bucks Fast. Cost is 914 Euros or $1,174.
  7. Machster solved my mystery. We have put in many short shifts over the years at our local work on cars days. When the Schnell version came out their ad said: "The shift rod has been designed with a 10 degree angle to retain the original position of the shifter when installed, unlike our competitor’s shifters that leave your hand in an awkward shifting position. Trust us, it makes a HUGE difference." What Schnell hype I thought. The B&M version and oem shift levers both have a bend to the right so that the shift lever points straight up when in neutral. But it looks like the B&M clone on ebay has the bend to the left. I can see it in the picture. Machster simply removed the nut and bolt, removed the lever from the blue housing, rotated the lever 180 degrees, and put it back together so that the bend is to the right where is should be. A simple fix for a screw up at the factory. I have not seen the ebay clone in person. But it looks identical to the B&M unit (except for the lever issue). For $55 I do not know how you can go wrong. It has 2 set screws, while B&M has 1, so use just 1. There are other people on Ebay selling the clone. Here are slightly better pictures which shows that the shift lever is 180 degrees reversed in the blue housing. You can see that the lever is bent towards you, when the bend should face the other way.
  8. Is this the one or like the one you bought? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...s_promot_widget
  9. There was a box guy named barry.... And out came a chevy....
  10. It could be the relay, or something else. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10647 When my relay went out the wipers would not shut off, unless I pulled the fuse. The purpose of the relay is for the park and intermittent features. Rule out the relay as the cause. First, make sure your relay is seated. Then, find another 2.5/2.7 Boxster owner and swap relays.
  11. Your 2001 has what I call the old style cluster. Porsche changed the cluster in 2002 for the 996. On the Boxster the change happened in 2001. What I call the new style. Then to confuse you a bit, a new style cluster with the OBC option has a dot matrix center display. The plugs and wiring in the back of the old style are different than the new style. I do not know how or if you can do what you want. Instead, if you do not have the OBC you can do the retrofit with the stalk or switch.
  12. There is an adjustment bolt for each cable. To get to it you need to put the top in the service position.
  13. As stated above, check coolant level. Light does not come on when you restart a warm car because the coolant has expanded and level is higher.
  14. I am not the stereo guy, but I have a 1997 with the same factory amp you do, and the same 210 Becker you use to have. But your year Box is 4 channel. But it looks like it should be a 6 channel amp, as this amp with modifications was used on the 996, and a 996 has a 6 channel amp for 996 rear seat speakers. This is why in the Box oem configuration you need to run the additional rear speakers off the head unit, unless you have put in a 6 channel amp. Then, this all changed in 2003-2004 with the MOST system, as that amp has 2 unused channels.
  15. The antenna wire is behind the right A pillar trim. Depending on your options (diversity antenna) there may be another connector behind the left A pillar trim. Has nothing to do with dash trim. Never seen the plastic defroster trim removed for a windshield replacement. I removed the A pillar trim myself because the visor screws go into brass threads and I did not want the shop to strip them. However, the shop manual does say to remove the defroster trim - I guess so it can't possibly be scratched. Then you put it back. This is the antenna booster and the connector in the A pillar trim that goes from the booster to the antenna wire in the windshield.
  16. This thread is so old, I am already on windshield #3. The trim for the windshield must be the moulding kit. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...amp;#entry52267
  17. The parts guys use to show me the computer screen. There we several prices listed for a particular part, including the dealers cost for the part. Like Loren said, they can sell a part for whatever they want, and sometimes it depends on who the customer is. My dealership was sold to Penske last year, and I think showing me the screen went out the window.
  18. The ROW 22 is the same as the US 220, except for the frequency. Becker North America had/has a modified faceplate for the 220 for use in a 993. Guess Becker does not do this outside North America. Doubt if it makes a difference that you have a 22 but you should confirm with Becker North America. http://www.beckerautosound.com/
  19. There was a guy on ebay selling a plastic window kit for various cars such as Miata, Z3, and the Boxster. Have not seen it on ebay for a while. In my area we have a plastic stuff chain store called TAP Plastics. They sell the window stuff by the foot. A guy on Pelican hand sewed in a new window. The stiches looked a little rough, but it was temp fix.
  20. I don't think the 1 piece will fit your year. The vents are different and it was designed for used with the pivot style cupholders.
  21. Zeintech was mentioned again on Rennteam. The site has more pictures. http://www.zeintec.com/gallery.asp The softtop and rear trunk lid are removed.
  22. http://www.carcrafter.com/shop/product.php...at=8&page=1
  23. Grizzly on the 986forum bought a used 1997 that had 18". Grizzly is now running 19" wheels. http://www.986forum.com/forums/showthread....48880#post48880 Peter on the Porsche Club Great Britain forum had 19" wheels for 2 years. http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=248121
  24. Remove the service cover from behind the seats and you can see everything. Don't know about your noise but the pulley bearings are known to go bad, also the water pump bearings, on 986/996. No clue as to why it would go away when the car is warm. Could be something else.
  25. If you mean the wheel hanger tool, I have never used it. Guess because 2 prior cars had wheel bolts and I got use to lining up the wheel. Never seen a mechanic use it, except if the car had ceramic brakes. You can also get this tool from the aftermarket. Some guys buy a long metric bolt and cut off the head.
