  1. That looks exactly like my 1997 when I bought it used in 1999 for $43K with 16K miles. But my 4 spoke steering wheel was not upside-down. Times have sure changed with the used Boxster market. I agree with jinizaz. Get that thing for $15K or keep on looking. There were only 165,00 Boxsters made....
  2. The Porsche instructions and other TSBs are available to contributing members and they are on this site. I only know of 2 ways to put in a B&M. The B&M way and the Porsche way. Neither method is superior.
  3. Did not know if it was different for a UK car. The 2 hours for the radio is true. When I'm playing around in the garage sometimes I listen to the car radio and it shuts itself off after 2 hours. Then I have to turn it on again. Looks like Lucas does the brake booster, not the electrics.
  4. You could put a snake in the engine compartment....
  5. If you leave either of the trunks open the lights will shut off after 2 hours. When I get home from work I park in the garage and leave my trunks open until the following morning. Lights go out after 2 hours. I think this is stated in the owners manual. I even timed it. If you open and close a door during the 2 hours then it takes another 2 hours for the trunk lights to go out. Richard is from the UK and maybe Lucas does the electrical system for UK cars. :lol:
  6. Not that I know of. The amber is not a coating. The plastic is solid amber.
  7. There is only one motor. That electric motor has 2 ends to it, and drives a left side cable and a right side cable. In turn those cables are connected to a left and right mechanical transmission. The first thing I would rule out is the hand brake switch and then top relay/control unit.
  8. What is in your picture will work in the 986 Boxster and the 996 line of cars. By the way, the set screw is installed in the rear bushing in your pic, not the front, but it does not matter. I do not know if it will go in 987/997 because I have not tried to do this. I think it would because one of the guys took the 987/987 factory short shift and put it in a 986. The 4 bolts for the assembly line up not matter what year or model.
  9. It has nothing to do with what was stuck in the lighter. The guys that replaced your battery did nothing wrong. Sometimes it just happens when the battery is disconnected, then reconnected. At our work on cars days over the years we have disconnected 100s plus batteries on various Boxsters. No problem. Then about 2 years ago the 999,999 deal happened after we pulled the battery on Patrick's car. First time I have seen in person this so I took pictures. Did the "fix" and the display went back to normal. I have no clue why it happens sometimes or why the fix works. The mileage is stored in the instrument cluster, not the ECU.
  10. You are not the first. Every few months someone on the message boards had the glue run onto the clear plastic lense. Do you really get a tube of runny superglue? When these rings came out years ago people were using silicon. Porsche does not sell the cover and the last time I checked VDO did not sell parts. Your best bet is to find a defective cluster and swap the cover. 1999-2001 are the same. 2002-2004 are different. The mileage is in the cluster. If you put a used cluster in your car and that used cluster has XYZ miles, then you will see XYZ miles when you turn on the ignition. There are companies, however, that can reset the cluster to any miles you specify. But if you find a used defective cluster for cheap, then you just swap the face and nothing has changed.
  11. Your 2.5 has what I call the old style cluster. The new style started for model year 2001 and the connectors are gray, blue, and green. You cannot use parts from the new style on the old style.
  12. Porsche is always playing around with part numbers. Looks like the GT3 is using the same shift as the 5 speed Boxster, 996 turbo, and who knows what else. On those 3 examples there should be the green plate that you need to remove for a B&M install. That green plate has a 986 part number on it. My picture of the plate is not good since you can barely see the 986 number on it due to the flash. If you remove the plate then there is a 996 part number under the plate. So the shift housing has a 986 part number when the green plate is present, and a 996 part number without the plate. Other than that the housing is the same.
  13. Try this. Disconnect the negative cable with the key in the ignition. Then turn key to position 1, and then turn key to off position. Then hook up negative cable.

  15. In my younger days I had several English cars, and even a BSA motorcycle. I will take an Uncle Lucas ignition switch over what Porsche had been using. Until my local dealership was sold a year or so ago, my local dealer was a combined Porsche/VW/Audi. Before the change of ownership I had a parts guy run the ignition switch through the part computers to see who was using it and how many times the switch had been revised. Revised 4 times. Used by all 3 companies over different time frames. I even went on Audi message board and they had instructions on how to replace the switch. Porsche did do a recall for about 3,300 1997 Boxsters. I know because I had 3 of those notices sent to me, years ago, for my car made in January 1997. The rest of you may be out of luck....

  17. I would say it is the ignition switch since that is a cronic problem on the cars made pre September 2003 986/996s
  18. I had the same problem with my first replacement battery. I would drive it during the day. Park at night. In the morning it was dead. Hooked up an amp meter and there was no unusual power drain. This started a few months after I put in the new battery. Put the charger on the battery then drove to the parts place where I bought it. Guy hooked it up to the tester and I had a bad battery. Sometimes even a new battery can be defective. Guy gave me another battery but this time I had it tested before I left the store. The 2 little trunks bulbs draw very, very little power, even if that was the problem. Plus the computer shuts them off after 2 hours anyway even if they are on. Take your battery in and have it tested, but make sure it is charged first.

  20. And here comes Volvo in a Boxster.... It says made in USA for Volvo Cars of North America. 70 amp hours. 600CC. Looks very much like the Moll.
  21. In the UK you can get cd changer prep that we do not have in the US. We have a cell phone connector that you do not have. Our cars all have the outside temp sensor because air conditioning is standard, but not all UK cars do because air conditioning is an option on the base car. You have a tilt sensor an alarm siren with a built-in battery for the alarm system that we do not have. And so on.
  22. This is the cell phone connector. On a 1997 it has 3 wires. 1998-2004 have 4 wires.
  23. On a US car the lighter is live all the time. Glyn must be from the UK. In the UK some cars are live all the time and with others you have to turn on the key. They find this out when they plug in devices or try to use a battery maintainer that plugs into the lighter.
  24. If you have the CDR-23 with external amp in the front trunk then it is a 6 channel amp. As stated above, there are 2 unused channels that can be used for rear speakers. There is a place on the back of the radio to plug in a speaker connector but it does not work.
