  1. I have a 1997 but I only turn the a/c on a few times a year just to make sure it still works. At idle when I turn it on the rpm dips then recovers. There was a remap years ago to prevent stalling. Peter did it for me about 5 years ago, but he said it was really only for 1999s. I noticed no difference after this remap. I have not paid attention to the a/c when I'm on and off the gas.
  2. The huge 49 is the same price as the smaller 48 and the yet smaller 47, $89.99. Bring a forklift - that 49 is big. I forgot to look to see who makes these Bosch branded batteries. Poking around the internet it looks like Johnson Controls uses the Bosch name for Pep Boys, like they use the Duralast name for Autozone. If you see a Bosch look at the paper instructions for the vent tube and see if it says Johnson Controls.
  3. No new battery pictures in 2 weeks, so I went to my local Pep Boys for a Toyota part and brought my camera just in case. Bosch branded (hecho en Mexico). I am almost positive these Bosch batteries are made by Johnson Controls. First picture has the 47 and 48 next to each other. Second picture has the monster 49. All 3 had the vent tube and all 3 were priced at $89.99. 3 year free replacement warranty, and pro rated after that.
  4. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10360 My windshield was already cracked at the bottom before I hit the mirror and cracked the glass behind the mount. I took the mirror off for the new glass that we were waiting to show up. When the glass did not show up I put the mirror back on so I could leave. I normally would never hit the mount area, but I did because the glass was already cracked at the bottom. Didn't think I would hit it hard enough to crack it again
  5. I have an extra Boxster one you can have....
  6. When I saw a 997/Cayenne style seal being put in an older 986 last year it was the same tool that had been used for a few years. I do not know of a special tool for the 997 seal, but I have not asked in a year.
  7. The snap together car. Any part covered in leather is harder to snap in because of the thickness of the leather.
  8. I got pissed off and hit my mirror with my hand when the mirror was not seating on the mount.... :o
  9. I have seen a few of these cars in a distance on the freeway and take off after them to get a better look what at what I think is a Cayman. Once I get close enough to see what I have been catching up to.... First one that I have seen in a parking lot, so I was able to take a picture of it.
  10. Ferry's Ghost. :lightbulb:
  11. I was very lucky and got mine from ebay for $90 2 years ago. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...5&hl=Geiger
  12. I may not have made it clear. There has never been a recall for the air bag light. The ignition switch recall was only for about 3,200 1997 North American Boxsters. A lot more than 3,200 1997s were sold. The problem with that style switch continued to 2003 when Porsche abandoned the original design. My January 1997 had the switch replaced around 1998. The recall came out in 1999. I got the notice. My VIN was on the list. I waited a few years to have it replaced a second time because I had no problems with the switch that was put in in 1998. The reason I finally took the car in for the ignition switch recall years after the recall notice sent was ... my air bag light would not stay off. My car had had a prior air bag fix. I have preached this before and I will again. I consider these 2 items safety related, but Porsche seems to be immune from voluntary recalls (aka service actions) and if there has been a single recall forced by the government on Porsche then I don't know about it. I think Porsche makes too few cars compare to other companies, so there are few complaints to the government. Plus recalls/service actions cost money. The air bags will still work with the warning light on per Peter Smith. So I drove for a few years with my light on, then off, as Peter would turn it off, then it would come back on. But I cannot remember if they fire with less or full force when the light is on, because the control unit thinks you are not belted in. Here are the 3 ignition switch notices I received.
  13. This is not a Honda or Toyota. Porsche is the most profitable car company in the world for a reason. Ask your dealer what they will do. If you are lucky they will offer to pay for the buckle/ground wire kit, and you pay for labor. If there has been a history of prior fixes then they might split it.
  14. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4833 In your picture the red arrow is pointing to the round alarm horn.
  15. Swap springs and shocks. The Anniversary Edition is just a Boxster S with the 987 intake. You can put on 17" wheels.
  16. I seem to remember if it is stuck you have to send it in so it can be taken apart. But you can try the Becker board. http://www.beckerautosound.com/beckerboard/index.php In the old days there was a Becker shop accross the street from Stevens Creek Porsche, but it is now gone. I think it was called New Hope Electronics. You can contact Becker North America on the East Coast for the name of a local repair place or just send it directly to Becker. http://www.beckerautosound.com/Index.html.htm This local guy had 2 bad changers. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...&hl=changer If you want to play around with it there is a work on cars next month. I can put your changer in my car and see if that does any good - but I doubt it will.
  17. I did not realize until now that you had a UK car with the alarm siren. We do not have this in the US. The siren has a rechargeable battery that is separate from the main battery that you replaced. As you have found out, if you disconnect the main battery and the ignition key is not in then that siren goes off. I have heard the siren is very loud....
  18. Read this from Peter and Scott. Peter works at a local dealer. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...9-284D52B42EDE} http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...7-84710F816889} I'm not sparky, so Peter told me to test for draw like in the picture. In fact, I think I should have turned the dial to mA and not the larger 10A scale. Before I hooked up the meter I closed the trunk latch with a screw driver in order to turn off the light.
  19. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...259&hl=bolt
  20. I have had a Mityvac for years. Two, in fact, after my first one gave up the ghost. I never had much luck trying to bleed brakes or clutches with it, for the reason stated by nick49. Get a pressure bleeder. Once you use something like the Motive you will never go back to the suction method. I do not remove the screen with the Motive. I hook up the empty Motive and then drain the reservoir down to the level sensor by cracking open the RR nipple. Remove the motive and fill it with fluid then follow the normal bleed sequence.
  21. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2810 And here is a better shot of the ATE amber and blue specs.
  22. Base calipers are black. They can turn whitish but I have only seen this on cars older than a 2003. Most people paint the base red to look like an S.
  23. I have seen this before on the UK message boards and do not know the answer. Brake light goes on, then off. All 4 pads are replaced and all 4 sensors are replaced. Then it happens all over again. Thought it had something to do with all the rain/water in the UK. Asked Peter Smith about this issue and he has never seen it. Let us know if you figure it out.
  24. For your first problem, if this was a US car I would say for sure it is still in the transit mode since the interior lights work with the ignition key turned on. Doubt if it is any different for a UK car. A PST2/PIWIS can take it out of the transit mode and put it into the "handover" mode. Don't know if Durametric can do this. Richard Hamilton is in the UK and has the ability to take a car out of the transit mode. He is on this board as well as others. Contact him and see if he can help you out.
