  1. I bought the knock-off from the ebay seller a2rinc for the comparison test. The seller is in Addison, Texas. I sent the seller pictures and a video of the poor fit of one of the plastic cup bushings, and the seller expected me to find him/her a source of proper fitting bushings??? Anyway, Alex provided a new in the box B&M today so I could compare it with the knock-off. Just for fun, I removed the lever from the knock-off and reversed it 180 degrees for the third picture so that the bend is to the right, as if it was to be installed in a car. Attack of the clones....
  2. The cable goes inside the loope.
  3. You can try the Becker board. http://www.beckerautosound.com/beckerboard/index.php But in the past when people said the magazine was stuck, Becker said to send the unit in so it could be taken apart.
  4. You could put in a 4 stalk switch assembly and just not hook up the cruise control stalk. But to use the OBC you would have to hook up the OBC stalk.
  5. The bulbs are all 12 volts. On other message boards guys have been putting in LEDs. I just swaped the instrument cluster on my old Toyota truck. At night the illumination is green. The clear bulbs have these little rubber green covers. Same illumination bulb is used by Porsche. I have seen these covers for different size bulbs at the auto parts place. Also saw different color bulbs. So you can change the color without switching to LEDs.
  6. Since you have a right side broken tension cable I would replace it and see if that does something. I thought UK insurance companies required a tracker. Still looks like a GPS antenna for navigation, Tom Tom, speed camera, or something like that. Former owner must have removed the device but it was too much trouble to remove the antenna.
  7. Looks like a GPS antenna. Or maybe something for the trackers you have in the UK
  8. Some time ago someone cut the wire to the instrument cluster connector for the seat belt chime. If it were me, I would have removed the wire from the connector in case I wanted to put it back in. If you are really going to do this then I will take the time to look at the wiring diagram and see if I can figure out which wire it is.
  9. Cup holders do fit there. There is a kit that has all the parts. I have not seen a storage bin in that position, but based on this picture it might just fit. There is also a blanking plate for the radio. But, again, I have not seen it used in that position.
  10. I have never seen this condition in sunny California. However I have seen a few complaints over the years on UK message boards. There is a 10 year warranty on the body, but Porsche gave the UK owners a hard time. This is Benny's picture. Looks like rust throught the paint around the striker plate. He also had this near one of the side vents.
  11. And here it is....
  12. Your clue is to replace the handbrake switch.
  13. A bulletin was also issued for the Boxster. The only difference is that the 996 has a strap and spring that the 986 does not have. The repair kit is the same.
  14. How does a post from October 2, 2005, come back to life? Anyway, I took this picture on October 15, 2005, at the ALMS event at Laguna Seca. Warning, the owner was watching the race from the Porsche corral. Not driving or riding in it while it was moving.
  15. The base Box comes with black calipers, and there have 3 flavors of black used by Porsche for the 986 body color. The S came with red calipers, but there is also a guards red for the body. But when Nik takes a blue car and paints the black calipers blue, there is a debate. I don't get it and this is why I have little interest in cosmetic change messages. But, as the fashion police and since Nik is from the UK, this is what he should have done.
  16. I have not seen anything published by Porsche as to how the special edition has a few more hp than a standard 2004 S. I have always suspected it is because the intake on the special edition uses 987 parts. While I have seen several special editions, I have never seen the inside of the engine compartment. When it came out I asked some of the mechanics, but they did not know since the car was so new that they had not worked on one. I'll have to check around to see if they now know. In the meantime. Greig from Glasgow has a special edition. This is his board. http://www.porschaforum.com/forum/index.php He said when the weather is better he will take the engine lid off and take some pictures to confirm my suspicion.
  17. AutoZone raised prices again. From left to right, on the middle rack. Size 47 for 79.99. 48 for 69.99. And the monster 49 for 79.99. Strange pricing if you ask me. When I bought my AutoZone 48 about 3 years ago all 3 sizes were priced the same, $59.99.
  18. The orange tool will fit on all 986/996 with the orignial shift lever. So if the car is a 2004 S or a C2 with the original shift lever, it will fit. But, the orange tool will not fit on the B&M/Porsche style short shift lever as that lever is fatter than the original shift lever.
  19. The part number for the orange tool is shown in post #4. I have also seen a white version. Both are the same except for the color. They work on all 986/996 with the original shift lever.
  20. Headlight on the barbie. I say, fry them....
  21. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...Monster+boxster
  22. Remove the headlight and look for it so you will know where it is in case you ever need it. The thing is, it is not always exactly in the same place from the factory. Plus, if you have a used car, some people have done "hacks" and relocated the cable. The first thing I did in 1999 when I bought my Boxster was to extend the loop end of the cable with a length of stranded picture hanging wire over to the side marker. Then we came up with the idea of relocating the cable to where the tow eye hook it. Both of these "hacks" make it easy to get to the cable.
  23. It was removed for the Aerokit I retrofit. No reason for the OEM moveable spoiler since it is replaced by the wing on the back of the trunk lid. The white car is owned by local 1997 owner Mark, but the Aerokit was on when he bought the car a long time ago. Mark's car did not have this installed at the factory. It was put on after delivery and before he purchased the car. In this picture I pulled off the blaking plate on Mark's car to see if there were remnants of the original electric spoiler. Nothing there.
  24. I started out in 1999 and watched the changes over the years, but did not pay much attention. What I remember is that Kit II kept the original steel trunk lid, but the shape of the wing changed. You have the original trunk lid but what I would call the Kit I wing. I do not remember that combination as a factory option, but it must have happened because I have seen pictures of this combination before. I'll have to look at the old Tequipment brochures. This is Nick's on the UK board boxa.net. This is the wing I remember for Kit II.
  25. When we bought the Traffic Pro units Crutchfield included in the box a universal 3 sided removal tool. Might be able to find something like this at an auto supply place.
