  1. Today, I go in the shop again, and there are no Boxsters apart to take pictures of. Just another Cayenne. Same problem. So this time I took more detailed pictures. From what I remember, I was told there are 2 or 4 plastic coolant tubes. The plastic splits. And the only way to get to them to replace them is to drop the engine. Was told there is no TSB on this yet. There might be a new part numbers for these plastic tubes.
  2. My first Cayenne post. I know next to nothing about this vehicle. 2 months ago I paid a visit to the local dealer and a mechanic I know did an engine drop. He said it had a coolant leak and I asked him why you had to drop the engine to fix what I thought was a leaking hose. He said you needed to drop the engine to fix it. I took some generic pictures. Back then I had no clue where this leak was coming from, nor did I care, since I am a Boxster guy.

  4. You might try the UK message boards. <a href="http://www.boxa.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=28814" target="_blank">http://www.boxa.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=28814</a> <a href="http://www.porschaforum.com/forum/index.php" target="_blank">http://www.porschaforum.com/forum/index.php</a> Of course, you would need a RHD 3 spoke steering wheel.... There are really no good deals on USA ebay. Most times it is just the wheel without the air bag, and the bidders jack up the price just for the wheel. Then, if you find an air bag on USA ebay for a decent price, then you have to deal with the shipping issue. I have a 1997 that came with the 4 spoke. Years ago there was a local 2000 Boxster S owner that converted his car to a track car, with an aftermarket quick release wheel. I got lucky and did not have to pay an arm and a leg when I purchased his 3 spoke and air bag.
  5. I went back today and looked under the muffler. It does have a sport exhaust, and the switch says "sport." Got to learn about these new cars. I was not suprised the car was still there. That color does not work on a little Boxstir, not even in Northern California. My fashion police statement.
  6. Any 3 spoke from a 996/986 will fit your car. Year does not matter. You will also need the air bag for the 3 spoke as the air bag from a 4 spoke does not fit a 3 spoke.

  8. There must be a micro switch inside the door on the door latch, since there is no pin-type plunger switch like a "normal"car. Open your door and with a screwdriver close the latch all the way. On my car there is 2 clicks when the latch is closed all the way with a screw driver, and then after about a minute the interior lights go out. One of the few things I don't have a picture of.....
  9. On a US car only the left side fog light works, but not the right side. On a US car the right side bulb holder for a fog light is empty. On a RHD car the opposite is true, but sometimes there is a bulb in the non-working socket. No clue why Porsche puts a bulb in a socket on a ROW car when there is no power to the socket. So, ROW people treat this bulb as a spare. To confuse you more, if you put a bulb on the right side it will not light up. The wiring diagrams are misleading because they show a wire running to that socket. And, if you pull out the bulb holder for the right side you will see a wire running to the empty fog light socket. If you put a bulb in that socket it will not light light up because there is no power to the wire. That is why you have to run a jumper wire from the wire to the functioning socket to the wire to the non functioning socket. At least this is the way it is on my 1997 Boxster. As you can see I ran a jumper wire from the left bulb holder wire to the right bulb holder wire, put a bulb. So there is now power to both sockets and both bulbs light up. You would do the same except remove the left side bulb, so that only the right side would light up. Also, now that I think about it, there is a local 996 owner, Kirby, who made the sidemarkers blink. If forget the year of his car but it is newer than a 2002. What is going to happen with the wide rear UK plate on a US car?
  10. Change from sidemarkers to turn signals. http://wa4ekg.home.att.net/996mods/sidemarkermod.html Don't know if these instructions work on a 2002. Run a jumper wire from the working fog light bulb socket to the socket on the other side that does not work, then swap the bulb over. ROW litronics have a lever in the back of the headlight to convert from LHD to RHD. US litronics do not. 2002 is bi-xenon. Don't know if the ROW cars have a lever. US cars don't.
  11. The 996 console has an extension on the back of it. The Boxster does not have this extension. Don't know what you are doing but if you get a console from a Boxster then you would remove your extension and put it on the Boxster console. Also, the Boxster does not have a stay for the lid, but you can swap that.
  12. You said only 1 was missing....
  13. That thing. That is my picture. The control units for 1998-2000 are the same. 1997 is the weird year. The part number for a 1997 control unit is only for a 1997. Same thing with the remote key. There is a remote just for 1997, but the remotes for 1998-2000 are the same. I have a 1997 and from what Peter told me I would have to get the control unit from a 1998-2000 to get one-touch up on the passenger window. Then I guess my 2 remote keys would not work.
  14. Search on this board and others. It has been discussed many times and there have even been polls. http://986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?...ermediate+shaft
  15. This is the control unit. There is a 4 wire cable that goes to each headlight. There is a connector on each cable. In the picture the connectors are in the middle because they have not yet been put on. When you select the high beams the control unit moves the xenon low beam up a few degrees to fill in with the halogen high beam. The headlights will work fine without the control unit.
  16. 1997 was a weird year, at least in the US. The passenger window has one-touch down, but not up. I bought a window motor from a 1998 thinking that with the motor I would have one-touch up. Nope. This "comfort" feature is from the control unit under the seat.
  17. Vent tube for the power steering reservoir.
  18. You are missing the control unit. From the unit there is a wiring harness to each headlight with a plug on the end. This plug goes into the side of the headlight.
  19. Tim Benson use to work at Stevens Creek Porsche. He knows Peter Smith, who use to be the shop foreman. Back then it use to be Porsche/Audi/VW. I guess some VWs are made in Mexico. Peter told me they had a VW customer come in one day because of a thumping noise. Thump when you hit the gas. Thump when you hit the brakes. The headliner was removed and there was a rubber mallet in the roof sliding around. But that one said Hecho En Mexico.

  21. I can sew on a button, if I can see the holes where the broken thread use to be. Sometimes I used dental floss as the thread. I once tried a stapler for buttons, but it did not work. This is an example of the top off vinyl repacement if you are in the business. http://www.kbaggstrimming.co.uk/boxster.htm
  22. I do not read German. I was told by Tim that the inside of the beer bottle cap says: "Happy Birthday, Dr. Porsche", or something like that. There is a brewery named Dinkel Acker in Stuttgart, so who knows. http://www.ds-kg.de/index2.php
  23. Speaking of beer bottle caps. Tim Benson, the owner of an independent Porsche shop in Santa Cruz, use to work at 2 Porsche dealerships, before going independent. Years ago while working at a dealership, he says, he removed a door panel and found this cap inside the door.
  24. In California we have a company called TAP Plastics that has the vinyl window material in a roll and sells it by the foot. The Miata ebay also guy sells a kit for BMW/Boxster. Years ago a guy on the Pelican board bought the vinyl and sewed in a replacement window while the top was still on the car. Hand sewing. He said he took home economics in high school, to meet the girls. These are his pictures when he practiced on a scraps. I took auto shop in high school so this is not a project for me. The other picture is the kit the Miata guy sells.
