  1. If someone can get a virus out of my notebook computer then I will bring my potato speaker....
  2. You must have had the battery connected, the air bag disconnected, and the ignition turned on. The air bag control unit then thinks there is a fault in the system and the warning light comes on.
  3. Yoseif Whiteson was a local Boxster owner I knew 100 years ago. The use of VW wires was something that Peter Smith came up with. Peter gave me the instructions for the stalk retrofit and I gave them to Yoseif. The instrument cluster changed in 2001. The 000 979 010 wire used for 1997-2000 did not fit as good as the 000 979 009 wire in the 2001 up instrument cluster connector. I then spoke to Peter and the instructions were amended for 2001 up. Yoseif did not get the amended instructions. In reality, either wire will work. The rear storage bins are held in place with a bead of glue. Sometimes you can peel the glue away with your fingers, utility knife, chainsaw, whatever will break the glue bond. On my 1997 with a retrofitted 1999 box I was able to peel the glue away with my fingers. On other cars the glue bead is solid and you need to cut it. Remove your box and take a look. If this is Saturday then you might stop by Santana Row in the morning.
  4. You can do both projects at the same time, to save time. That is the way we do it when a dozen cars show up and there is a time limit to finish because you are at someone's house. While someone is preparing the rear storage box for the speakers, someone is pulling the body trim pieces to run the wiring harness to the radio head (for 2002 and older). Raman has a dremel to cut the glue for the rear storage bins. For the OBC with switch, someone makes the wiring harness while someone pulls the cluster and switch trim. For a 2001 with switch you need one VW wire 000 979 009. These projects can be done in parallel.
  5. Too bad about the pictures, but they were not mine. Here is a regulator I bought a few years ago. It had 2 stops installed, with torx screws. That is the way it came out of the plastic bag. So for a 996 you would remove the upper stop before you put the regulator in, or the window would not go down all the way. For a 986 you would leave the upper stop in place. Yellow lines are to the upper and lower stops. That is my guess as to what your problem is since the stops are about 1 3/4" apart. Only one way to find out for sure ... door panel comes off again.
  6. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...amp;#entry12802 See if your regulator came with 2 stops installed, unless you put in the upper stop yourself. If so, remove the upper stop.
  7. On my Boxster 8 years ago I noticed a drip from the passenger side cam cover. Very minor. Snuged up all the bolts and the drip went away. Might try that first. The bolts are small so don't crank on them too hard or you can snap them. Also check to see that the oil is not coming from the spark plug tubes.
  8. Tires for the special edition....
  9. The local group filmed several of these installs when we were making DVDs. Raman has done about 6 rear speaker installs. We filmed him. At least one of the installs made it on the first DVD. I always wanted to try a rear speaker kit but this was not an option on my 1997, or a 1998, as it did not come with the rear plastic storage box. Now that I have the plastic rear storage box from a 1999 maybe I should give Suncoast a call.... Years ago I use to trade emails with Bob Tindel about DIYer projects. He worked for Pelican Parts
  10. The flat blank in a matte finish does not exist. Flat blank in gloss finish 996 552 425 00 A01. This was used 1997-1999. Curved blank in gloss finish 986 613 425 00 A01. This was used 2000-2001. Curved blank in matte finish 996 613 425 10 A05. This was used 2002-2004.
  11. I have the 1997 Boxster tech intro booklet. It also says 5,120 rpm. I have a 1997 and several years ago I had a hesitation at about 4,000 rpm, then it would go smoothly to redline. I thought it was the VarioCam. When I was at the dealer for a smog inspection it turned out to be the air flow sensor.
  12. 2 switch batwing from a 996 should be 996 552 335 02 01C. Same as a 986 batwing except it has the 2 holes for switches. On a 996 they are for heated seats switches. There are 2 different style blanks. 1997-1999 was a smooth oval, just like your 1999. 2000 up they were shaped like the switches. 2002-2004 is matte finish. Prior years were gloss finish.
  13. What tmc says is what I have been reading. People have said the bushing diameter on a 2007 is a bit smaller than the prior years. So you have to enlarge the plastic holes a bit in order to get the B&M bushing shells in. A local shop that installs a lot of B&Ms also told me this a few months ago. The owner of the shop said he told B&M about the fitting issue. I did not see this complaint on the 2005 987s.
  14. The standard 987 shift is black plastic. It is the one at the top. The 987 short shift is blue plastic. The bottom one is the standard 986 shift.
  15. On a 2.5 the spark plug change interval with the oe plugs is 30k miles. Someone must have replaced the plugs over the years.
  16. People hit the switch with their foot and it gets shoved behind the fuse panel. Remove the 4 screws and pull the panel out and I bet your switch is behind it.
  17. I have a 1997 and replaced the tank 2 years ago. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...5&hl=Geiger Pull back the carpet and look. There has been at least 7 part numbers for the tank over the years.
  18. Some people have said that the 3 car limit is not in the software. If you get the enthusiast version there is something in the cable that limits it to 3 cars, while the pro version is not limited as it has a different cable. This 3 car limit is something new. I don't remember a limit when it first came out as there was only one version.
  19. Again, here is my code card and the serial number is V 5005967. When I push the buttons on the radio it displays the same serial number. The card has the code as 1217. That code works as it is the one I have been using for 8 years. But the hit-or-miss decoder says 1115 is the code based on the V 5005967 serial number.
  20. You should be here http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14539 where there are 8 pages. The hit-or-miss decoder also says the code is 4321.
  21. My 2.5 is due for a clutch and I do not trust the dual-mess flywheel. Did you put in the Autozone Luk flywheel? Where did you buy the clutch? Autozone has crazy prices for a clutch kit.
  22. I have the original code card and original radio for my 1997 Boxster. The code works. The radio works. But can someone look up the radio serial number....
  23. I don't care about the color, but in person it looks ... orange. When I go to the local events I sometimes see a green or orange GT3. Sometimes they park next to each other, like siamese twins. The green one looks ... green. Pictures under fluorescent lights inside a showroom is not a true representation of a color. Maybe Porsche will try green for the next 987 special edition. They already used up all Carrera GT silver paint they had for the 2004 986 version of a special edition, and used up orange for the 2008 special edition.
  24. Interesting. That is a new one for me. I would ask the mechanics I know but I think the last time it snowed in San Jose was during the ice age. Now watch Porsche do the right thing and issue a voluntary recall for all cars driven in the snow so the crossover tubes can be inspected for corrosion....
  25. I don't like taking pictures inside the showroom, but I had no choice. I have see the color outside in the sun on the GT3 because there are several where I live. I have also seen it in the showroom.
