Then bring it down to a parts place for a load test after it is fully charged. But a 5 year old Moll is living on borrowed time. And sometimes the Moll goes boom....
  2. It just prys out. There are plastic prongs on the back of the trim piece that go into metal clips - a simple friction fit. The snap together car.

  4. The Becker/Porsche CDC-3 uses a Sony magazine because it is a Sony unit with Becker electronics. The Becker/Porsche CDC-4 is the fiber optic changer and it has been said that it uses a Panasonic magazine. I never paid attention to the CDC-4 magazine so I do not know how to describe how it looks different than a CDC-3 magazine, but the magazines are different.

Since your car is newer than my 1997 Boxster you should be able to go to a test only, or test and repair place. Look at your DMV renewal notice.

I think that 996 645 311 00 amp from a 996 will work in your 2001 Boxster. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...=9187&st=40 In fact, one of the local guys with a 2000 just bought that amp to power his rear speakers. I took a picture of it at our work on cars day, but I don't know if he has put it in yet. It is from a coupe, not a cab. I asked one of the mechanics what was the difference between a coupe and cab amp, and he thought it might be the crossovers. I don't even know what crossovers are. I just bought a 996 amp from ebay for my 1997 to power rear speakers. I don't have it yet. Part number 996 645 313 00. Seller said it is from a 1999 C2 cab. Pictures are of the amp the local guy bought.
  7. I thought a US 1999 996 has a one button remote, unless it is a ROW car. I think you need to state if the car is for the North American Market, or ROW. Anyway, a mechanic gave me a dead remote to play around with it, so I do not know for sure if it is from a 986 or 986 or what year. It is a 2 button remote. It has a colored crest so I'm going to guess it is from a 2002-2004 996. Does not look like yours.

  11. You can adjust the amount of tension of that cable. Look near the other end of the cable for a silver nut. The cables do break as they are under a lot of tension. Unless you have had work done to the roof I would just replace the cable, as I have seen them fail for no reason other than what appears to be poor quality. LHD or RHD does not matter.
  12. When we started doing a lot of OBC retrofits years ago I would say we were cheating Porsche out of X dollars for not paying for that option. Now you folks are cheating Porsche out of X dollars for not buying the cruise control option. Oh well, Porsche is still getting our money because we have to buy their parts to do the retrofits. So, Stan, did you do everything yourself and the only dealer involvement was to turn on the OBC and cruise control? If so, then Porsche got an extra $110 over the cost of the parts you had to buy.
  13. Sounds like you broke the motors (or whatever they are called) that operates those 2 needles.
  14. I went on the Douglas Battery website. They make US and euro size batteries. Years ago Douglas supplied Porsche with batteries that were used as replacements by the dealers if the battery was replaced under warranty. The dimensions listed for a 94R are 12 3/8" length. Width 6 7/8". Height 7 1/2". I assume the "R" means it is a reverse terminal. I always thought the 80 amph hour Moll was a size 92, but according to the Douglas site the 94R and 92 have the same dimensions. I don't have an 80 amp hour Moll battery handy to see if the dimensions are the same, so you will have to measure your battery.   15. I have never done this repair. Porsche issued a 9 page bulletin on June 18, 1998, called "Door Wiring Harness Plug Connections." It outlines the repair procedure and has part numbers. You might ask your dealer for a copy, try to find it online, or donate $25 to Renntech and see this and almost all the other bulletins. Keep in mind that a dealership is not going to play around with corroded pins like a DIYer would. They are cut off and new pins are crimped on. The female pins in my picture also accepts a 3/32" bit. If you need to replace the pins. The female should be 999 652 568 22. Male 999 652 567 22. These are the part numbers listed in the bulletin. Then you need the pin removal tool. Search under Sir Tools. The tool in my picture has been discontinued, unless you can find one in stock, or you use the "swiss army" version. I will warn you. I have never removed the round pins from the door connector. But I have removed them from the connectors in the front trunk. The trunk connectors have what is called a secondary lock. In order to remove the pins from the connector with the proper pin removal tool you first need to unlock the back of the connector or the pins will not push out. You slide this lock open with a small screwdriver, put the tool on the pin, then push/pull the pin out. I do not know if the door connector has a similar secondary lock, as I have never tried to remove a round pin from the door connector. When you start repairing the connector take notes and pictures, because I think this thread is going to end up in the DIY Common Fixes and Repairs section if you do a good job. Here is a picture of the discontinued tool being used to push out that female pin in one of the front trunk connectors.
  16. Here are the female pins that I have in mind that might be the same as the door connector female pins. I do not have a picture of the matching male pins. These female pins are used for a litronic retrofit, but I have seen these pins used throughout the car on other connectors. If you stick the end of a drill bit into the female pin and tell me the inside diameter of the pin then I will know if it is the same pin, and the tool to remove them. I would have been the first to tell him, but I needed to know the build date first. :P But in fairness, he was not able to open the connector to check the condition of the pins.
  17. It is part of the emissions equipment. On the spec racing board there is talk of using a catch can. http://www.boxsterspecracing.whsites.net/p...topic.php?t=541 Engine blow-by vapor has to go somewhere. I am old enough to remember when cars did not have emission equipment. Blow-by was simply vented to the atmosphere, usually via a vent tube on the side of the engine. Then along came the EPA. Now that vapor is routed to the intake where it is burned. If you come up with an idea then the spec racers might be interested.
  18. I take it you mean the kit that bolts to the transmission? A long time ago I was going to buy one, from Brandywine. When I talked to the guy there were about 5 versions. I wrote down the part numbers but I do not know what I did with the paper. The 996 version was different than the Boxster version - that I remember for sure. I am a positive as I can be that for the Boxster there was a 5 or 6 speed version. I once looked on the B&M site but I could not find the unit that bolts to the transmission.
  19. My first question was to ask if the car was built prior to May 1997, and it was. Can I say I told you so.... Porsche issued a bulletin on how to repair this situation, but if you go to the link to the 986 forum it sounded like that fix is the expensive way to go. It has been a long time since I looked at the door connector pins, but I think the Sir Tools pin removal tool that we use to retrofit litronics might fit the male and female door pins. One thing I do remember is that there was not much room to work on that connector. You might take the door off. I have never taken a door off but I have seen off at the dealership. Then you will have room to work on the pins and wires.

The batteries we talk about are US sized, and the sizes we talk about are 47, 48, and 49. Your 80 amp amp hour euro battery does not have a US sized match. If you want a US battery you get one that is a bit smaller than what you have (the 48), or a bit larger (the 49) than what you have. If you want an exact match on the size then you have to hunt around for a euro sized battery. We use the US sized batteries because you can go to just about any parts place and find them on the shelf. You have seen the 49 and it is huge, plus the 4th hole in your battery tray is not threaded for this larger battery. As I said in the link, for some strange reason it is threaded only in a 1997 Boxster. So most people like you with the 80 amp hour Moll go with the smaller 48 rather than the larger 49. And just think of all that weight you will saving and how much faster the car will be....

  23. Well, 1 1/2 years ago I said I would not pay more than $30 for a "crappy" Porsche 6 X 40 watt amp. Well, just got done on ebay and it cost $36. Just paid for it so I do not have it yet. I have a 1997. The amp came from a 1999 C2 cab. Seller says he upgraded to an aftermarket DVD unit.

  25. The profile of the door windows changed on the 987. So you cannot use a 987 top on a 986, and you cannot use a 986 top on a 987.
