  1. Looks like how a B&M is packaged. But it also looks like you have 2 extra bushings, which look black. The housing for the shift lever looks black, not blue. I see the tube of lubriplate grease that comes with a B&M. Could be your crappy pictures and the flash.
  2. I have had 3 windshields on my 1997 Boxster. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10360 There is no magic to this. Any independent installer can put in any brand glass you want.
  3. Finally got around to replacing the belt on my own car, a 1997 with 66,000 miles. I had removed and inspected the belt at 30,000 miles and it looked fine back then. At 66,000 miles the belt still looked fine. But I had already purchased a replacement belt and since the service cover was off, the replacement belt went in. Kragen auto parts is down the street from me. Kragen's list 3 belts. Dayco for $44.99. Goodyear Gatorback for $27.99. Mileage Maker for $19.99. The belt sold by Porsche is made by Optibelt and full retail from a Porsche dealership $42.20. I went with the $19.99 Mileage Maker from Kragens as it was in stock. Turns out it is a Goodyear product, Hetcho En Canada. The part number is 835K6MK. Funny thing is, the Kragen's site says this belt also fits a 2004 F-150 pickup and a 2004 Focus. Maybe this is why it was in stock.

  7. On a UK car with the alarm siren, you turn the ignition to the on position, then disconnect the battery.
  8. The bolts for the bar are a bit longer. Seller must have removed the bar and put the longer seat bolts back in. See if the seller has the original standard bolts and if the seller can put the standard bolts back in and send you the longer bolts. I am almost positive in the old days you could buy just the longer bolts from Porsche, but I cannot find them in the current PET. Might ask Loren.
  9. They are brake pad sound dampeners. Never understood how they are supposed to work.
  10. Last guy who was pretty sure it was not the bulb - it was the blub. The front and rear trunk lights use the same bulb, so swap them. Also, if your front trunk is open and the light is not on, it will go on when you open the door or the rear trunk, unless the bulb is burned out.
  11. Don't close the lid for the storage box in the center console all the way.
  12. If you pull the head unit out and look to the left you will see the alarm contact. In my first picture you can see the dent the contact left in the plastic insulator. With the oem radio the alarm contact cannot ground to the metal body of the radio because of the plastic insulator. But if someone tried to pull the radio out with the alarm on, the contact would touch the metal body of the radio and the alarm would go off. So, you put a small piece of tape on your aftermarket radio in the area where the insulator would be. Needs to be sticky and thick or the tape will peel off or the contact will slice it when you slide the radio back in. That is the black tape in the picture of a TrafficPro. 2 layers of tape were used. Or, you disconnect the wire to the contact and tape the end of the wire so it cannot touch anything metal. Or, you leave it the way it is. The alarm still works and everything except the radio is protected. Some people like the single beep to tell them the alarm has been set.
  13. I have seen mention of a CDR-32 on UK Porsche message boards, but it is not a radio I am familiar with because we do not have it in the US.
  14. Look on the left side of the oem radio and you will see a plastic insulator for the alarm contact. Your aftermarket radio does not have this insulator, so you now get a single beep when you se the alarm. Put a piece of tape on your new radio in the same area, or disconnect the wire to the alarm contact. Don't know about the light thing.
  15. Your 1999 hardtop will fit 1997-2004.
  16. Just a note for California residents. If you look at the DMV renewal notice it says you must pay the registration fees on time to avoid a penalty, even if you do not have a smog inspection. Long story, but since I have a 1997 Boxster my car has been smogged 5 times. Last 2 inspections my car was "not ready" for the test prior to the date the fees were due. So I paid my fees on time. Once the DMV receives your fees you get a notice in the mail that the registration is incomplete because of no smog inspection. The notice also states that once the inspection is done your sticker will be mailed within 30 days. Keep that notice and your canceled check in the car in case you get stopped for not having the sticker. CHP loves to stop people without a current sticker, because Arnold needs the money. You can still be hassled if you get stopped for not having the sticker.
  17. Here is some info. http://www.brackenrig.net/OBC_Hack.htm For a Boxster but is the same for a 996. In 2002 Porsche came out with a special cluster for cars with OBC as a factory option. That is what you see in the 2003 owners manual you looked at. Your 1999 has a different cluster. If you do the retrofit with stalk or switch you will see exactly what is in Loren's scans. If you only want to see the outside temp display then no retrofit is needed, just have the OBC turned on and the default display is the outside temp. Later on if you want to see the rest of the OBC displays then you can do the retrofit.

The most common problem with the alternator seems to be the regulator. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...nator&st=20 It is a standard 120 amp Bosch alternator used on other German cars, just the mounts are different depending on the application. I bought a rebuilt Beck/Arnley alternator on ebay and it says made in Grat Britain. Well, at least it is not made by Lucas.... You need to have the car checked to see if it is the alternator and if it is, what part is bad. Porsche wants a lot of money for a rebuilt alternator, and even more money for a new one. In the US we can buy a rebuilt alternator at local auto parts stores at a fraction of what Porsche wants, rather than from Porsche. Unless you have a warranty you might take it to auto electrician to save money. If the battery is fully charged I don't know what you cannot drive it to a place to determine of it is the alternator. After all, you were driving it when the light came on.
  19. Looks like the seller recently came out with a slightly smaller LCD just for Porsche. Dont't know anyone who has tried this version, just the original version that required modifications for the LCD to fit. The symbols in both versions are the same but, as you note, not identical to Porsche as the display is an Audi unit. Big deal. Let us know how the smaller LCD works out.
  20. After the drain plug is removed, remove the stand, and "lower car until engine just touches the drain pan and let oil drain." Your car will then be level while the oil is draining. If you are going to watch the oil drip for a full 20 minutes then you will need a beer. After the oil is done draining jack the car up and put the stand back in place. Install and tighten drain plug, don't forget the washer. Tighten the cannister. At our work on cars days we usually get the women to change the oil....

This DME step was not necessary on the 1997-2002. Print out the info and go back to the tech and he will know what to do. Then once it is turned on you will not see anything, until you retrofit a stalk or switch. Just like you could not see anything on your 2001 until you did a retrofit. If you are only interested in seeing the outside temp display, then you do not need to retrofit a stalk or switch.
