  1. Don't remember. Saved it years ago from some site or ebay when searching for ISO mini or microtimer connectors and pins. You could also try Becker and see if you get lucky. Or maybe a stereo shop that works on Porches that has cut them off. This picture is from ebay.
  2. Never heard of that. I assume it is so you can slide the bellows on. The mechanics I know don't use anything. Maybe try some silicone lube. They also don't use a worm drive hose clamp like we do. They use the spring band clamp that has this blue thing that keeps the clamp open. When the clamp is in place the blue thing is pulled off. Might try that unless you are going to use a hose clamp.
  3. The bulge is the nature of the beast - mine does the same. Don't go fast, or get the new style bra....
  4. Another tip is to use a T50 Torx bit if you have one. It is a better fit than an 8 mm allen.
  5. I have the same bra. Colgan makes it for Porsche. We use to call the the original style bra as it went over the fenders. Colgan could not sell it with the Porsche crest on the piece that goes on the trunk lid. You need to adjust it, or are missing the 2 silver clips that bolt to the fender screws.
  6. What replacement switch did you use?
  7. People were using the Optima 34R on the 996/986 and I can't think of why it would be any different for a 997. Your 997 uses the same crappy Moll battery used on the 996/996. 12volts, lead and acid. Nothing special. What I don't get is that the 2005 and newer cars have a black sticker accross the caps. Guess this is to trick the customer into thinking you can't remove the caps to check the acid level. Or, so that the dealership will know that you did so. You can find more info on aftermarket batteries here. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2950 The Interstate battery number depends on what you have now. Look at your battery and it will be either a 70 or 80 amp hour Moll. The Porsche part numbers are on a sticker and start with 999. 070 in the part number is what I call the mid-size battery. 080 in the part number is the larger battery. If you have the 70 amp battery then the size of that battery matches close enough to a US sized BCI 48 battery that you can find at almost any parts place. If you have the Moll 70 and want to go with the euro sized Interstate I think it is MTP-91.
  8. Not seen one, but you can be the first. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...mp;hl=cam+cover
  9. AMP is a funny company. I contacted them years ago to buy connectors. Some where restricted parts, and others you had to buy like 1,000 at a time. I did not have much luck on google because these are automotive connectors. I have seen some audio connectors. They are called ISO or somethinglike that.
  10. The oil filter sold by Napa is made by Wix. I put in this filter during my last oil change. It is the one on the left. Bought it from a parts place down the street. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...p;hl=unapproved Also bought an air filter from the same parts place. It comes in a Wix box but is made by Mann, same company that makes the air filter sold by Porsche. The belt I bought from Kragen for 19.99. It is made by Goodyear in Canada. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2325 So it is not necessary to always buy service parts from Porsche.
  11. Look at your owners manual and you can see the various OBC displays. In order to change the information displayed you need a switch or a stalk. The stalk is just a fancy switch. It is like reading a book. When you want to see what is on the next page, you turn the page. That is what the switch/stalk permits you to do. With the stalk you can cycle back and forth between the displays. With the switch you can only cycle forward. It is like reading a 5 page book. With the switch you start on page 1, then go to page 2, and so on. If you are on page 5 and want to see page 4 then you have to go to 1, 2, 3 in order to get to 4. With the stalk you can go from page 5 directly to page 4. The stalk has more electrical contacts and wires, so you can cycle forward and back. You can also set the speed gong with the stalk, but not with a single switch. But, just to confuse you, if you use 2 switches then the switches will act just like the stalk and you can also set the speed gong. You can reset the displays with the switch or stalk.
  12. It will not go out until the car moves. In fact I think it will go out in reverse. Next time I back out of the garage I'll have to pay attention to the light.
  13. The LCD display has gone bad. Same thing happens with the LCD display for the a/c. I think the electrical guys call it LCD bleed. The only instrument cluster parts Porsche sells is the knobs. The cluster is made by VDO. Years ago I bought a used 996 cluster off ebay to put in my 986. The middle LCD was bad. I checked with several speedometer shops and was told that VDO does not sell parts for electronic clusters. I even contacted VDO but they never got back to me. Here is a recent post about the inability to get parts. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19796 On the other hand this guy was able to have the tac motor replaced. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...20&start=20 He is a local guy as is Palo Alto Speedometer. I don't know if Palo Alto Speedometer now has a source for new parts, or if they had a used cluster as a donor for parts. Palo Alto Speedometer was one of the shops I checked with years ago, and back then they said they could not get parts.
  14. I replaced a missing valet key. The car still has to be coded or you can't start the car, but there is no paper tag with the 24 digit code for a valet key.
  15. Along these lines. A 987 friend just took her car in for the 2 year service. Part of this service includes looking for burned out bulbs. She picked up the car after the service and her friend in a 997 followed her home, and noticed a brake light was not working. She returned the car the following day and the dealer replaced the bulb, that should have been replaced the first time. At least the dealer did not charge her for the second visit.
  16. As others have said, pull back the carpet and see if there are signs of a leaky tank.
  17. 987 Boxster and Cayman owners complain about this. The car is programmed so that the button has to be held down longer before something will open. Also, on the new cars the buttons on the remote were changed so that the are recessed and harder to accidently press, like when they are in your pocket. I would guess your 997 could be adjusted so that the buttons have to be held down longer.
  18. I have an idea, but let's see the pictures. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=15775
  19. This is something new. Who makes an aftermarket air flow sensor for use on a Boxster? The only one I have heard of is Hitachi that the turbo guys use instead of the factory Bosch.
  20. The 2 prongs are to prevent rattles. That is the only purpose and the unit will work fine if they have broken off. Both of mine have been broken for years, and I don't even hear any rattles. There are 2 sguare holes on the back of the steering wheel. When you put the steering wheel back on you must make sure the prongs are going into the holes, or you will break the prongs off. When you remove the air bag you cannot let the air bag hang from the connector or the weight of the bag will break the prongs - that is what happened to me.
  21. Mine is like the yellow one on the right. It is an open container. Watch out if you have one like the black one on the left. It has a cover with a drain plug in the middle. The hole for the plug is so small that it can't always handle the large amount of oil that comes out of the engine quickly. I always change the filter first. Replace the filter and screw the cannister on. Then I slide the pan over to the drain plug. That way when you drain the oil there is already some oil in the pan plus the filter, and I don't get oil splashing out of the pan.
  22. Does the distance displayed in the PCM come from satellites?
  23. The trunk open warning light started in 2001 when the electric releases came out, at least on the Boxster. The front trunk latch has a microswitch. The switch is for the trunk light, alarm, and I assume the warning light.
  24. The facelift was for model year 2003. That is when the Boxster got the clear halogen headlights and clear tail lights. But the side markers/signals stayed amber for the facelift in the US market. The top colors were black, blue, and grey. Starting with 1998 you could order the car in any of the 3 colors. I have the first year Boxster, 1997, and the only color for that year for the top was black. Porsche owners like to swap parts. My 1997 has 1999 996 clear halogen headlights, 2003 clear tails lights, and clear side markers. 2000 S 3 spoke steering wheel. And so on. But my car was never like that when it was new.
  25. Here is another one at a different local dealership. Don't know what the problem is, but something is wrong or it would not be sitting on the back lot with 8.8 miles. Maybe it is because the sticker on the windshield says it is a Boxster....
