  1. I need to see a picture to be sure what part you are talking about. I though it was the height adjustment wedge in my picture but it is not near the slide for the clamshell. Jeff
  2. If a dealer will not give you one there are 2 on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...gory=10779&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...gory=10779&rd=1
  3. If you have not figured it out yet. The vent is held in with 2 locking clips. You press down on the clips and the vent pulls out. Jeff

  5. L'embrayage fait le bruit ? Le Français mettrait l'huile d'olive sur l'embrayage. Le Français du Canada emploierait la bière. A worn clutch does not usually make a noise, unless it is the release or pilot bearings. I was told that a defective 2 mass flywheel does not make such a noise. I have driven a car that went to the rivets on the friction disc. The clutch slipped but did not make noise. Maybe it is different on a Boxster. If the friction material is gone, like on this picture, then you will make a lot of noise. This car was towed in.
  6. There must be a cd for other models. I'll ask. I think the cd is only given to people who buy the car. It is a PNA not PAG cd. I saw them in the in the manager's back office so it is nothing they just hand out. Also saw someone on ebay selling one (or a copy) for $25. I bet no customer has seen this binder.
  7. The oem shift throw on a GT2/Turbo is shorter than a 996. I have measured it. On my list is to measure the 996/base Boxster/Boxster S. You cannot compare your car to a 993. Not only are the cars way different, but you now shift via cables. The Porsche factory short shift is now an option. The Porsche/B&M unit changes the pivot point of the shift lever. We measured a 36.85% reduction on Armand's C4S. Nothing is free - there is always a trade off. Swing a 33" bat and hit a ball and see how far it goes. Cut off about 37 percent of the bat and see how far the ball goes. You can swing a shorter bat faster but there is a trade off. It is 'notchy.' It does require more effort. It is harder to find reverse. It is a bit harder to find the correct gear. That is because it is a short shift. That is the trade off - nothing is free. Most people get use to it, and would not go back. I tell a new owner to try it on a car first. There is no adjustment for your complaints other than removing the unit from your car. I am amazed that some people also install an additional short shift unit that bolts to the transmission shift lever in combination with the lever type. Our local group has installed dozens of the B&M and EVO lever style shifts. None have gone back to oem. The EVO unit is not as short as B&M, and 2 of our local Boxster owners with the EVO unit have replaced it with the shorter B&M. Armand, I think you got a lemon, or maybe a potato, or maybe a B&M. And you are not the first C4S we did. Jeff
  8. I was at my local dealer today making the rounds. Multimedia Owner's Manual for a 2003 Boxster was given to me. It has the banned 15W-50 on the list. Again.
  9. Too late. I have a patent on it.....
  10. Sorry - I could not resist.
  11. I think so but not positive on #3. The digital speed on my 996 cluster had problems so I could not compare it to the analog. Bill and Jonathan have 996 clusters and Dale has a turbo cluster so they can confirm if they match. Once the cluster has 62 miles (is that 100 metric miles?) the displayed miles cannot be changed by a dealer with the PST2 - you have to find an outside company. There are about 3 of them in the US. You cannot easily remove the 2 extra gauges. Dale did this as he had the new style cluster from a turbo and he was simply able to unplug and then remove the 2 gauges. You have the old style cluster which is different.
  12. Peter works at my local dealership and he has been helping us for years. It looks a bit different depending on the year.
  13. That is a metric 996 cluster and it should work on your Boxster. It is not from a C4. It is for a manual transmission. The same part number is also for a Canadian cluster as they are metric. You need to deal with the fact the 996 cluster is wider at the front due to the 2 extra gauges. There are 2 ways I know of and I guess Dale came up with a third way. If you want the oil pressure gauge to work then you have to swap a wire, or install a 996 sender and run an additional wire. The volt meter will work as it is. If the 996 cluster is a used unit with over 62 miles then the mileage will not match your car and a dealer with the PST2 cannot change it. Aftermarket companies say they can set the miles to any number you want. If you search around here there is more info on a 996 to Boxster instrument cluster swap.
  14. At great expense I have designed a gromet that is far superior to the OEM. I am still in the prototype stage. I need everyone to measure the size of the hole in case there has been a change over the years. Need to plug that hole. Before - ugly. After - beautiful. The plug will be finished with a propriertary 15 step coating process color matched to your car using original German rubber and paint. $100. Place your orders now in time for Christmas.
  15. It is momentary, but I believe it operates the relay. Jeff
  16. Palo Alto Speedometer is about 20 minutes away from me. I contacted them last year to see if they could replace the defective center LCD display on the 996 cluster I bought off ebay. They may have to take the cluster apart to change the mileage. Let them clean it.
  17. The mystery continues.....
  18. I have the passenger side. This is what was in the box.
  19. Might want to ask Keith anyway. Bought a used passenger side window motor off ebay and the seller included the regulator - but do not need the regulator. I think the plastic bushings are green and blue - it came from a 1998. If Mark can take a look at my regulator the part you need might be there. Jeff
  20. I think Jean will have a new car one part at a time, and Stevens Creek Porsche will have a reserved parking space for you. Sounds like the window regulator but they will not know for sure until they remove the door panel. There is a plastic part that breaks and the window drop then does not work. Jeff
  21. You still have not said if it is the digital and/or analog speedometer. There is no digital tachometer. The tip and manual clusters do have different part numbers, as there are no shift indicator lights on a manual transmission cluster. Whatever the problem is, I do not know if it is because it is a mis-matched cluster and I do not know if they can code the cluster to eliminate the problem. That is a Peter question. There is a Boxster owner with a tip who put in a 996 manual transmission cluster and he did not report any problems other than there were no shift idicator lights - but I do not know if they had to change the coding or something else. There is a cluster on ebay with no bids for $250, but it is for a manual transmission. I see tip clusters in the same price range from time to time, and they do not get much interest as most Boxsters have a manual transmission. If your cluster is in fact defective then why not wait until you can find the correct one. Jeff

If you have an external amp then only the Porsche CDC-4. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=512 Not sure if you have the CDR23 version with the internal amp. Jeff
  23. If you plug in a functional new or used cluster everyting should work. You did not say if the digital or analog speedometer on the new cluster your mechanic pluged in did not work - but it does not matter as both should work if the cluster is functional. I plugged in a used 996 cluster on my Boxster and both speedometer displays worked - but the digital display had problems as it was a defective cluster. A used cluster will have the VIN from the car it came from. Your car does not care. $400 sounds a bit high for me. What I have said is for pre 2003 cars. Jeff
  24. Here is Mark's sensor that he put in today. Exact same sensor sold by Por$che.
