  1. Peter said to put the jack stands under the cross member. This is a picture I took today.
  2. We did remove the A pillar trim because we were installing the auto dim mirror at the same time and you run wires down the A pillar. Not sure if you need to remove it for the defroster vent trim swap.
  3. Only the 1997 Boxster had 3 wires. All other years including the 996 4 wires. Standard in the US but an option in the UK - believe it or not.
  4. Loren has posted the electrical info. In the olden days you had to buy the connector from Bird - the cupholder place. Becker sells it. It has a diagram. I think you have to buy the cell phone and aux in and keys as a set, but check with Becker. It is the one on the left.
  5. I asked Peter today what could cause a temp power loss with the light on and then off. He said 100 things. His guess was the cam positioner sensor. Jeff
  6. I asked the shop foreman I know today (he is a Boxster owner, PCA tech advsisor, and helps us) and he said a long time ago he wrote down some numbers but did not have them handy. He said you would have to cut the bar open to get the inside diameter numbers. Where do your numbers come from? Jeff
  7. When Loren and Chad jacked up Chad's 996 they used the factory jack points. Loren will have to tell you where they put the jackstands as a 996 is different than a Boxster.
  8. Left is 996 504 503 00 and right is 996 504 504 00 for the rubber part. Full suggested retail is about $14.
  9. Some of the information is published. If it is very important I can ask the guys at the shop to measure. I have nothing published on the inside diameter. All outside dimensions are for a 2003 manual transmission. Standard suspension. Front is 23.1mm on both the 2.7 and 3.2. Rear is either 18.7 or 18.5mm on the 2.7 - Porsche has 2 different figures. 19.2mm on the 3.2. M030 US sport suspension. Front - there are no figures for the 2.7 or 3.2 but it looks like the part numbers have not changed since 2000. Rear is 19.8 on both the 2.7 and 3.2. Jeff

  11. What was the amp rating of the original fuse and what position was it in?
  12. It is a kit so it should. For 2 wheels. $287.50 suggested retail as of November. With something that wide you have this type and lug nuts like a normal car. One of our guys has it on his rears but I'm too lazy to find the film picture I took last year and scan it. Pic again from Paul.
  13. You can buy a kit that has all the parts for 4 wheels. Individual part numbers. Spacer 996 361 605 90. Longer 'set' screws to rotor hub to hold the spacer in place (need 2 per spacer) 900 269 106 09. Longer wheel bolt 996 361 203 90. My friend Henry has 7mm spacers on all 4 wheels with the original wheel bolts. But if you do that and your wheel with a 5mm spacer comes off do not go looking for me. Pic from Paul.
  14. I call them the Ferrari look. Someone said the official Porsche figures were 20.0 lbs front and 21.8 rear but I do not ever remember seeing any wheel weigh figures published by Porsche. There are some wheels in the for sale section.
  15. I asked Scott for a picture of adapter in December 2002 and again 3 weeks ago because you guys are starting to ask about the 7860 changer. If you ever get a picture can you let me know.
  16. The 986 333 531 36 504 has the M codes 481 and 030 next to the part number, and the year is 2003 up. 481 is a 5 speed manual transmission. 030 is of course the sport suspension. So that spring is for a 2003/4 2.7 with a manual transmission according to the parts list. Double check with your dealer.
  17. Just lift it up from the back. It takes some effort as it is held in place with 4 clips. Yours will have a set screw.

  19. For a 2003 S 6 speed with USA M03. Double check with your dealer as Porsche likes to change part numbers. Front. Shocks 986 343 041 31. Springs 986 343 531 16 504 - you were given the correct part number. For the bar 2 part numbers are listed 996 343 701 04 and 996 343 701 10 - do not know why as the year and option codes listed are identical for both parts. Sometimes Porsche will have 2 parts listed for the same application - with a notation that once the older part is exhausted from inventory then only the newer part will be available - but there is no notation for the bar. Rear. Shocks 986 333 051 31. For the spring the part number you have is for a 5 speed manual transmission M03. 2 part numbers are listed for the springs 986 333 531 39 504 and 986 333 531 40 504 - the second part number is for a 6 speed - the first part number does not list the transmission type like Porsche usually does.   20. Last time you asked about the relay I posted a picture of it. ;) The fuse is Row D #6. But if your fuse is blown then you would get nothing all the time. The relay and the fuse for the relay have no other circuits on it. I would just swap the relay with another Boxster owner and see if that is the problem. Are you pulling out the switch properly for the front fog lights? You are going to have to check to see if your jumper wire is still secured. Most likely it is a fuse since the fuse is for both front and rear fog lights. Maybe you created a short with the jumper wire. Jeff
  21. It is strange that Becker discontinued the 2660 changer since it is popular with Porsche owners. The other Becker changer that works is the 2630. It is a 10 disc. It is also about 50% bigger than the 2660 so you cannot mount it on the factory bracket. I think Becker has also discontinued the 2630. Continential Imports has no 2660 changers. In the olden days people were putting in Sony changers as they said the Becker units were made by Sony. The Sony 6 disc CDX-T62. A local 1998 Boxster guy has the 10 disc Sony CDX-705 which may require an eprom thing. These Sony models have been long discontinued. You can always buy the CDC-3 from Porsche since it is identical to the 2660, but you have to pay the Porsche price. :angry:
  22. I answered your question about the 7860 on another board. My friend Dave H. in San Jose. California has the 2660 changer, cable, and bracket. He installed them on his Boxster which is the same as a C2. When his lease was up he removed them and gave his car back to Porsche credit. He thinks he needs the changer because he will some day get another Boxster, but it has been 1 1/2 years. Jeff
  23. I have to think back almost 5 years when we started to put in short shift kits. I think the first was the EVO unit. With EVO you did not replace the shift lever. Instead you add a metal extension piece to the bottom of the lever. This changes the pivot point like the B&M, just at a different end. The EVO unit did not come with the metal bushings back then, but you could buy them as a seperate part. The B&M back then did not have the metal shells on the bushings. They were all plastic. Some people who put in the B&M would also put in the EVO metal bushings even though they were not an exact fit. The EVO kit now comes with the metal bushings and I see they are also selling the B&M unit. The 'good' thing about the EVO unit is that if you do not like it you remove the extension and you are back to stock. The reduction with the EVO unit is less than B&M. 2 of our Boxster owners have gone from EVO to B&M. Short shift trivia. This is the EVO unit.
  24. Carlos 'karlooz' from Campbell switched from a 1998 Boxster to a 1999 C2 coupe. Maybe he will chime in. I still think a 996 cab looks like a fat Boxster. <_<
