  1. The new style top transmission started according to the repair manual on May 3, 1999. The picture on the UK board of the transmission you took out is the new style. The part number for the cable that broke on your car now ends in 03 - not 02. I do not see the micro switch listed as a separate part. I do not know if getting the alignment marks the same on both sides will put the V-levers in the proper position so that you can pop all 4 ball joints back together. We have not worked on a car with the new style and the alignment marks are not mentioned in the manual. Let us know if they do work for future reference. When Mark come on the board he can tell you how to set the V-levers, or you can try the way in the manual, or you can try here http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...3-97C78ECDE476}
  2. Yep, the 4 spoke Boxster wheel is the same as used on a 993. If the splines are the same I cannot see why it would not work. One way to find out......
  3. Good use of duct tape. :o One of these days I will find out the reason for the green plate since not all models have it.
  4. First, you need to come to one of our work on cars day. Several people were there on Saturday hoping to sell you amber tail lights if you are still in the market since they converted to clear. You would have seen people putting in Porsche branded parts and "aftermarket" parts at the same time that are identical except for the price paid. We all complain about prices. It is a long standing tradition. You might be able to pick up some tips for the future. For example. We installed the belts in the pic on a 1999 and a 2000 S on Saturday. The difference? The price.
  5. Jon, all the messages in this section are for 1997-1999 Boxsters that have a very different gear mechanism/top transmission than the 2000 and newer cars. Your year is not supposed to have problems as it has the new style transmission. Our local group has only worked on the older cars. I think you have the repair manual and you know it does not tell you much. The old style has clearly marked match marks so that the gear inside is positioned properly before you bolt the V-lever on. The repair manual for the new style just says to measure from one place to the other so that you have 195 mm. But, I also saw match marks on the new style I removed. I would set the marks so that they match as the starting point before you bolt the transmission back in with the 3 nuts. These marks on the new style are not mentioned in the repair manual. There is an internal switch - held in my hand. Do not have that on the old style. This shows the planet gears inside the new style. Looks nothing like the old style which has a single half-moon gear. I do not see how you can "jump" off gear with the new style like you can with the old style. At most, perhaps, you can be 180 degrees off and the switch will not like it. So, other than measuring then only reference point I can figure out is the match marks. I would reinstall your transmission then with a drill run the cables so that the V-levers on both sides are in the same position and the male ball joints are lined up with their female counterparts. Otherwise you will not be able to snap the ball joints back together. Now we need Mark to confirm.
  6. Our cars do not have an inspection plate. Wish it did.
  7. Do you have any engine fault codes? Have you been hooked up to an OBD2 code reader or the PST2. Otherwise it is like finding a needle in a haystack.
  8. Some pictures of belt changes and a trip computer retrofit.
  9. Removing the lighter is a 4 day job. The drawing in the shop manual is worthless. Raman has done it 3 times and he cannot remember how to do it unless he has the parts in his hands. Since we filmed it I will have to find a place for it in the next set of DVDs.
  10. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1218&st=0
  11. You should not have condensation above the cap. The newest style cap ends in 01 and I trust that is what was put on. Is the cap screwed on properly? If so, all I can think of is it might be another bad cap.
  12. Clutch slave cylinder. Not brake calipers.
  13. I did not know you could buy just the rubber cap - thought Porsche would make you buy a new cylinder. Do you have the part number? I have had other cars that did not have a cap on the cylinder or the brakes. I would not worry about it. A large auto parts place that has the "help" packages of odd parts might have a selection of rubber bleed nipple caps.
  14. There is a Boxster guy I have tried to help with the same problem. His unit shorted out due to water. When you replace the control unit the PST2 can read out the codes for the remote keys and then the code can be inputed/transfered into the new unit and that way you do not have to replace the remotes. But if the PST2 cannot even recognize the unit..... Same problem with the Boxster guy. Were you given the paper tag for the remotes when you bought the car? It has a bar code on it with a 24 digit code. I know a guy with 2 new remotes with the paper tags who wants to sell them - but they are for a Boxster.
  15. Do you have the factory trip computer/OBC option?
  16. The rubber bushings inside the frame for the 4 spoke steering wheel air bag/horn are worn. Common complaint with the older 4 spoke steering wheels. The air bag is heavy and when it starts to move around due to the worn rubber bushings the horn beeps. It could happen when you hit a bump, hit the brakes, turn the wheel fast, whatever. When someone has purchased an older Box and they say the horns do not work, then you usually find that the horn fuse fuse or relay was removed rather than fixing the problem.
  17. a Saturday. At Henry's house. Starts at 10:00 am. Limited to 3 hours. http://vssi-eda.com/hverheyen/box_pics/clu...address_dtl.jpg No messy projects like oil changes. Shorts required. Might be a contest for the worse legs.
  18. Maybe you are. :o If they are not making noise then leave it as is unless you want to pull it apart again. The 2.5 and 2.7 Boxsters do not even have them. The 3.2 Boxster does and some people do not use them. It is just to reduct the chance of noise.
  19. According to my parts list the part number for the air box has not changed for years. My guess is that Porsche revised the cams and/or VarioCam for the special edition like Porsche did for 2003 and the additional 8 hp increase for that year.
  20. Different part numbers but it is still made by Eisenmann. Henry thought you wanted to host pictures - not sound files. Check back later if you can get them to Henry. http://stau.jowood.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1767
  21. I'll ask Henry if he can host it. The original sport exhaust was made by Eisenmann in Stuttgart. Do you see their name on your exhaust? http://www.eisenmann-technik.de/export/main/intro.htm
  22. 2001
  23. GreigM on the UK board has done this. ;) http://forum.boxa.net/index.php?showtopic=...t=0entry68842 You need to remove the middle rollbar padding and the storage box so you you can clamp the BK fitting on.
  24. How could the shop manual be wrong? ;) Just found out the price on the Boxster shop manual has more than tripled! It is listed as 27mm in the 996 manual but 24mm in the Boxster manual. For all the money Porsche charges they should at least sell accurate info. There are also errors in the Boxster shop manual. I know it is 24 mm because I took this picture of my largest 36 mm socket and the correct 24 mm tools before I did a second belt change for a local Boxster owner. My original pictures show my 24 mm combo wrench and socket.
