  1. We filmed it last year, but so far no DVD. If you can remove a plug you can change the oil.
  2. Ok, another twisted hint. This is a Canadian visor. English and French. Took this picture about 2 years ago on a California car, because someone at the factory screwed up. The right side visor was in English only.
  3. Nope. The owner drove his Boxster from point A to Santa Cruz. 3 more pictures, but only one pic might have a clue.
  4. Alberto's 2003 2.7 friend was at the Santa Cruz, California tech session. Hint, it was a long drive. It is a North America car.
  5. Went to Autozone today to get brake pads for my truck. Have not been there since April. Now all the batteries have a red top, but other than that they look indentical to the all black batteries they had in the past sans the $5 price increase. The paper instructions for the vent tube still say Johnson Controls. Group size 48 was out of stock - guess the word is out in 986/996 land as that is not a common size. They had 47 and 49 with vent tubes, so I took a picture of both side-by-side. 47 is a bit smaller than a 48, and 49 is larger than a 48, in length. The width and height are the same. Since there are multiple threaded holes in the battery tray for the hold down clamp you have a choice as to what battery to use. If I lived in Alaska I would go with a 49. If I wanted a lighter battery I would go with a 47. The original size 48 is fine with me. But I have a 1997 Boxster and all 4 holes in my battery tray are threaded, as are other 1997 Boxsters I have looked at. I would have to use the last hole for a 49 because it is so long. On the 1998 up Boxsters and 996s I have looked at the 4th hole was not threaded, for some strange reason. For Kevin, I took a picture of the oval vent. One of the batteries on the shelf did not have the plastic bag with the vent tube glued to the top of the battery. The rest of them did.
  6. Other than the red top and $5 price increase Loren's battery looks like the one I got in April, and the specs are identical. My part number is 48-D which I guess is now 48-DL. Hope my battery fails soon so AutoZone will give me the red top racing version. You have a vented AutoZone battery. The vent is oval - the first yellow line. The yellow lines are to the vent in the middle rear, unlike the side vent on the Moll battery. The second yellow line is to the black rubber vent tube that comes in the plastic bag, and there is also an adapter in the bag for the clear plastic oem vent tube. On your battery, someone removed the orange cap over the positive terminal, and the plastic bag with the vent tube/adapter/instructions inside the bag, as the bag should have been glued to the top of the battery.
  7. If the paper vent instructions say Johnson Controls then for some reason they made the top red. This is the instructions from the AutoZone battery I picked up in April, except my battery does not have a red top, and your vent instructions look identical to mine. Guess they want it to look like an Optima. I paid $60. Bet they raised the price.

  9. That was news to me when I saw it. I would have to look at the shop manual or ask the mechanics. I have seen them take the cam covers out of the parts washer for a reseal but did not look at the engine to see if there is a special tool holding the cams in place. In fact, they were doing 2 cars at the same time so if there is a special tool then they would have 2 sets. I had a slight leak in one of the covers a few years ago. I tightened all the bolts a bit and it went away. Try that and see if it stops. Do not crank hard as they are very small bolts and you will strip the threads.
  10. I can see what they did on that 997 factory short shift. The pivot point of the lever was raised, just like the B&M/Porsche short shift used on the 996/986. So watch for B&M to come out with a metal version for the 997. What is the claimed shift throw reduction in the 997 tequipment booklet? The problem with the B&M/Porsche 996/986 unit is that the factory cable adjustment tool would not fit on the shift lever because the legs on the tool were too short to snap into the shift tower. That blue tool in the picture has longer legs so it will fit on the 997 factory short shift. Here is a 996/986 oem shift tower with the orange factory tool.
  11. It can and has been done on UK cars. http://www.boxa.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=3209&st=0 You might ask on the UK board who will turn it on for you. The only issue on a UK car is if you have the outside air temp sensor in the front grill. In the UK you do not have the sensor unless you have the optional air con. Not an issue in the US as air con is standard.

  13. Similar issue here. The parts computer does not list left and right, it just shows 2 clips. I needed the right clip, which the bulletin says is 986 561 738 01 01C. But I bought 986 561 737 01 01C and in the sealed plastic bag was a right clip, which the bulletin says is for the left side.
  14. Roll bar padding just pulls off. I have some special trim work tools, but you can do it with strong fingers.

  16. Your car has a history of prior fixes. This will be interesting to see if a dealer tries to get you to pay if your car has not been messed around with since the last 2 fixes. Electronic stuff can fail at any second for any reason. That is why I have had 4 notebook computers in 5 years. Like why the remote control key head stops working after years of service, or a control unit, or a DME, or an air flow sensor.
  17. Get it out and vacum the air box - otherwise dirt particles can hit and damage the air flow sensor. The black foam faces up. You really cannot put it in backwards.
  18. You need to say you want the Audi/VW switch. Call again and ask for Chris in parts. Tell him you own a VW/Audi and want the switch used by Porsche. The same switch no longer exists as a Porsche part number.
  19. When I started out 5 plus years ago never thought I would see a 90k Boxster. On local cars we have done the 15, 30, 45, and 60k service. See if you can find out if the 75k service was done. I will give you a list of parts at the tech session.
  20. Aileen and I have Sumitomo HTRZII. Was $500 for a set of 4 when I bought them a few years ago. Good bang for the buck. Next time I think I will try Kumho. Neither has an N rating, and I do not care.
  21. I did not know the Cayenne had this feature. I wonder if there is something like it on the 997. Next time I see Peter I will ask if we can get this feature with something as simple as a Cayenne relay/flasher swap that is a direct plug into the 986/996 relay tray. Right now I cannot even find a part number for the Cayenne flasher, just the 986/996.
  22. Somewhere there are instructions for a B&M shift install which involves removing the center console. Once it is out then you will see how easy it is. You remove the shift tower and parking brake. Each is bolted with 4 nuts.
  23. Is it a factory or aftermarket top.
  24. We filmed it for the DVD along with the spin lock install. There is a triangle plastic cover on the side of the top on the inside just above the spin lock. Pull that cover off and you will see 5 allen screws used for adjustments.
  25. The bigger issue is where are you going to hear the sound from TrafficPro. You need speakers and yours are already being used. And to make is worse your 2004 is a MOST car.
