  1. Put up a picture of the plug with the tool stuck in it for the next guy.
  2. This is a 2003 Boxster. The intermediate shaft failed. A replacement engine was ordered and put in. The picture is the replacement engine. Hint. The problem was discovered when it was time to hook up the exhaust.
  3. I bought both valves on ebay since they are a common problem. Not had a reason to replace them yet.
  4. Now that I think about it, Peter used a triple square bit to get out a drain bolt, not a torx bit. He showed me the plug with the bit still stuck in, because I asked him how he gets out an aluminum plug when the recess is rounded. It was not a plug from a Boxster/996 but some other Porsche aluminum plug. I even asked him about welding a nut onto the plug, but the problem is is the oil drain plug is aluminum. As long as you can get some tool into the recess that will not spin under torque.
  5. A number X allen bit has no relationship to a same number X torx bit. The number might be the same. Nothing else. The problem with drilling a hole for a very large easy out is. If the plug does not come out then you have an engine with no oil. If you have removed the oil with a drilled hole at the plug then you have no place to go.
  6. Then you hammer in the next biggest torx bit that almost fits. Not a larger size allen bit as it is soft aluminum. The kind of bit you can turn with a long wrench for leverage. Use a breaker bar. I think have a Peter picture but I cannot find it.
  7. Does your 8 mm allen tool just turn inside the recess of the plug?
  8. No clue since I am a Boxster guy. All I know is that the turbo has a power assisted clutch. There is a separate reservoir for the clutch, but it uses Pentosin power steering fluid, not brake fluid. The reservoir for the power assisted clutch has the green cap, which is next to the blue cap for the washers. You have to remove the plastic cover next to the battery to get to the green cap. I have a turbo owners manual and it does say to check the dip stick in the engine compartment for the power steering and clutch. I assume the power steering pump is also for the clutch. No clue why there is also a reservoir in the front of the car. It is not mentioned in the owners manual. Let us know what is turns out to be.
  9. With that added description this is a new one for me. I will put it on the Peter list. My only guess is that there is something wrong with the microswitch in the door handle. It is that switch which does the window drop when you open the door. You might want to remove the door panel and replace the switch and see if that fixes the problem.
  10. Is your top up and latched when this happens. If the top is down does it happen. What sensor do you think it is not. Might be this. Peter
  11. Just pull out the headlight and you will see the hose to the washer.
  12. They clip to the seat rails. Slide your seat back on remove the 2 plastic caps on the end of the rails. On some cars there is a phillips screw on one of the caps.
  13. I have pictures of what I think are all the factory versions, including the aftermarket versions. Order it from the UK is 5 year old news, plus that version is NLA.
  14. In California you get a salvage title if an insurance company totals the car and pays you off because they then get the pink slip. If you pay for the work out of your pocket then the title is clean. My local dealer has had 2 flood impacted 996s in. Fresh, not salt, water. But the water did not go as high as the windows. Insurance totalled one and one of the mechanics bought it and fixed it. The other more recent one had water just over the door sills and the mechanic I talked to said it was an easy fix, but it is up to the insurance company if it will be totalled. Of course, your water damage is more extensive. Both cars I have mentioned were parked. So water never got into the engine. I assume your car was parked. Can you start the car or are there electrical problems which prevents it from being started.
  15. For the 2 side electrode plugs used on the 2.5. Bosch FR 7 LDC4 or Beru 14 FR 7 LDU. The 7 in the part numbers is the heat range. The early 1997s came with heat range 6 and Porsche went to 7 in April 1997. My January 1997 had 6 but when I replaced them Porsche sold me 7. When my car was new it came with Bosch. When I replaced the plugs at 30,000 miles Porsche sold me Beru and I have had the Beru plugs in for 20,000 miles. Bosch and Beru look identical to me and I cannot tell any difference in performance between brands.
  16. My oldest email is maybe a few months. I sent Ray and Aileen the contact info before then. You will have to contact them and see if they still have the info. Since then Ray bought a 3 spoke air bag from a local 996 owner, Russ. Russ who went from vinyl to leather, and Ray bought his vinyl air bag for $150. Never expect another deal like that. And do not quote me on the $280 price since I cannot confirm it. Aileen is still looking. But maybe not after this week is over. Inside story.
  17. The tool is only rotated a few degrees in either direction to unlock or unlock the headlight. You do not rotate the tool around and around. There is not starting or ending point.
  18. If the recall was done your cap should have in white lettering in German and English "turn to click" with an arrow. Strange you do not have the cap but have the recall sticker.
  19. This is what they look like. They screw into the oem carpet. Should had been in the box that the matts come in. What sometimes happens the box is thrown away and they are still in the box.
  20. Over the years I have bid on Boxster stuff just to realize I knew the person I was bidding against, so I stopped bidding. Just recently Aileen wanted the rucksack that goes between the seats and there was a cheap one on ebay with an hour left and no one had bid. So I bid on it for Aileen because I could not get her on the phone. Then someone started bidding against me - the user name was something dog. I bid again and was out bid. Then I remembered Aileen has a dog so I called her again on the phone and got through. It was her bidding against me. She won, and I only jacked up the price a few dollars. I now have a list of ebay user names for Boxster owners I know. When Ray and Aileen were looking for black vinyl 3 spoke air bags I found a place that had them for a decent price. I emailed them the seller's contact info, but my e-mail has since crashed. I think it was $280 and the seller had a few. I got my 3 spoke and air bag years ago from a local S owner who was converting to a track car.
  21. If you turn the tool in the correct direction then the headlight will start to slide out of the fender. Sometimes the tool is a bit too large and will just turn without rotating the locking bar. If that is the case then try a 5 mm six point socket.

  23. It is easy to tell if you have the new style gas cap since you have a 1999. 1997-2000 caps have 2 slots on the cap to hang the cap on the fuel flap. There was a recall a while back for 1998 and I think up to 2001 or 2002, a least in California. A sticker was placed on the rear trunk lid. The style cap for the recall is the cap that started in 2001 with the teather. 1997-2000 did not have a teather. So on those years the teather was removed from the cap, and there are no slots. 1997 was not subject to the recall as 1997 has a different emission system. First pic is a teathered cap on a 2000. The owner asked the dealer not to remove the teather because there is a hole you can use for the end of the teather on a 1998-2000. Second pic is the sticker for the recall if the recall was done, at least in California.
  24. I am a Boxster ebay junkie and was watching a 3 spoke tiptronic wheel. Looks like you got it, very cheap. I even bid on it. All you need now is the air bag. If you find 2 let Aileen know. She has a 3 spoke but also needs the air bag.
  25. Looks like the interior carpet is black. Someone from San Jose was selling red carpet on ebay. Was that you? Jeff
