  2. According to the parts list the steering wheel is the same for a LHD and RHD. You can put a Boxster or 996 3 spoke on a 996 4 spoke. If you just walk into a dealer I doubt they will have a wheel and air bag in stock since it is not a common replacement part. You might contact Sunset Imports in Oregon since they usually have the best prices. You could order the wheel and air bag and have it sent to your hotel. I think there is some kind of restriction on shipping because the air bag is an explosive device.
  3. It could. The dog teeth on the brass syncro ring looks worn or damaged. They should come to a sharp point just like the steel teeth just below the brass colored part. This is not my picture.
  4. If you want to pay $6,500 for the 4 bow frame used on 2003/3. And that is just the price for the frame. Add about $2000 for the top, and labor. That is why no one has done it.
  5. Here is an article on the net. http://www.nichols.nu/tip493.htm
  6. This has been covered several times and there is only 2 pages in the top section. I use a drill that can spin in 2 directions. Search in the top section under my user name and the user name mark in sunnyvale for instructions.
  7. I did a google search and went to the Bosch site and there is very little info on the Platinum +4 plug. I can't even find the heat range for the #4417 plug. The heat range for the oem plug is 7 for the 2.5 and 6 for the 2.7/3.2, but most part companies on the net list the 4417 for all engines. Can't figue out if it matters or if this is a case of one plug fits all. When the 2.5 first came out it had 6 but then a few months later Porsche switched to 7. I searched on the pelican board and came up with this info. The actual Bosch part number for the 4417 is 0 288 510 195 07P. I guess the 7 in both part numbers is heat range 7. I bet this is what Jeff used as someone on the pelican board said R3 187 is on the insulator of this plug. I then found mention of a 4418 plug which I guess is heat range 8. Was not able to find out if there is such a thing as a heat range 6 when I searched under 4416. I need an internet detective. The US Bosch site lists 4417 for the 2.5 and 2.7. For the 3.2 it lists the oem Super line plug which is a conventional nickel/copper FGR6KQC, but does not list the 4417. If you want to use the oem plugs you do not have to buy them from Porsche. The Beru for the 2.5 is 14FR7LDU, and for the 2.7/3.2 it is 14FGR6KQU. The Bosch for the 2.5 is FR7LDC4, and for the 2.7/3.2 it is FGR6KQC. The box and plug on the left is for a 2.5 and on the right for a 2.7/3.2. These happen to be Beru plugs. Porsche only has 2 part numbers, for the 2.5 and for the 3.2. There is no separate part numbers for Bosch or Beru. You get whatever brand is in the box, but all the replacement plugs purchased from Porsche I have seen were Beru. My 2.5 came with Bosch and I replaced them with Beru at 30k miles, and noticed no difference between brands other than one is made in Germany and the other in France.
  8. There are several articles here on the 996 oil pressure readings. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_area.asp?i...fication=Engine
  9. Here is a picture I took a few days ago at my local dealer of the prototype spare tire option. The only problem is the spare tire option conflicts with the optional humps because there is no room left in the rear trunk to store the humps. :)
  10. I don't think I want Dieter to work on my car. The 2 drain holes under the top do not have a plastic umbrella. The pic of the plastic 'umbrella' is the plug for the hole where the spinlocks go if you do not have spinlocks. When I see a car missing one I look under the top and I usually find it there - just like Dieter did. Somehow it flys out of the hole and ends up under the top. The first pic is from their site with a yellow line to the 'umbrella.' The last picture is a local Boxster with a yellow line to the head of the plug stuck in the hole.
  11. Yep, no third coolant radiator for the S. In England the 987 launch was a few days ago. Mark Bennett from England who is on renntech and the Porsche Club of Great Britian board reported that the opening is covered with a piece of black plastic. Looks like Porsche made up for it with slightly larger radiators, higher flow water pump, and variable speed radiator fans instead of the two-speed fans. Want to bet if there will be a third radiator kit that can be used on the 987. I would rather have the spare and jack and the extra 22 pounds. Guess I will have to move to Brazil to get it. Going to have to figure out how to hack some of the options. This pic is from someone on the UK board.
  12. I think it is published for the English speaking market, North America and ROW. I have the 2003 Product Information in paper form and it also notes differences between markets. So does the 997 Product Information. The only publications I know of specifically for the North American market are published by PCNA. The product information is published by the PAG marketing department. In any event, it is an ok source for basic info and overview. The more technical publications are the tech intro booklets which comes out each year. This is what is given to the mechanics when they go to the training school.
  13. As stated, try Becker. No clue if there is a Becker dealer in Dubai. With Becker North America they fax you a form to prove you ownd the radio and charge you about $30 to look up the code. You can also do a google search for becker radio code and there are private companies who will supply the code for a fee.
  14. I am waiting for my turn since I have a 1997. Labor rates are high where I live. A shop has to remove the top, sew in a new window, then reinstall the top. That is going to cost about as much as I could buy an aftermarket top on ebay for $400. Buy this top and let us know if it is any good. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=33652 http://www.convertibletopguys.com/
  15. They have been on RennTech for a while. Same thing for the 997. The Product Information booklets are good for a consumer because they are written for the sales department. I like the part that there is no dipstick because our habits have changed away from manual measurement. In the old days I wonder how many years it took the public to accept a fuel gauge, rather than putting a calibrated wooden stick in the fuel tank. For some reason I think it strange to have an optional 6 speed on the 2.7. Time to get use to new things. The external vs. windshield radio antenna is also interesting. I remember about 5 or 6 years ago Becker asking if Boxster owners would buy it as a retrofit. There was no demand. Now it is a no cost option. Would like to see what it looks like in the right front fender.
  16. There is a new article on this subject on the PCA tech site. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...F-967F5E211B1A} For those that don't know Peter, he is a PCA tech advisor, works at our local dealership, helps the local owners, and owns a Boxster. Since I own a 1997 I asked Peter many years ago why 18" wheels were not approved and if there was a retrofit kit for these reinforcements. He did not know of a kit and I have never heard of one.
  17. Never seen that on a Boxster.
  18. That is a 1999 I took a picture of at a tech session. Lifted up the vent tube for the picture. My 1997 is the same way. Points down. So, what is better. Beck, Vintage, or the others. :D We have a few in the Bay Area.
  19. I just looked at your profile to see what year 996 you have. It says you have a 1992 which is not a 996. What is said I for a 996 or Boxster, not a 1992.
  20. I'm a Boxster guy. The only way I can tell is if X50 is on the option sticker.
  21. Sales in the US really slowed down for model year 2004 and dealers still have new 2004s in stock. Guess Porsche wants to give dealers time to get rid of the inventory before they release the new model.
  22. You remove the center console, put the transmission in neutral, then snap the red plastic tool onto the shift. If the cables are not adjusted properly then the tool will not snap on. In that case you disconnect the cables, snap the tool on, then reattach the cables. Once you remove the console you will see how the cables can be disconnected by pushing on a spring loaded keeper and lifting the cable up. Somewhere on this board are B&M instruction and they explain how to remove the cables. I have used the tool on about a dozen Boxsters and 996s, prior to a B&M install. I make sure the cables are adjusted properly before I put in the B&M. I have never seen a car where they were not adjusted properly. I doubt if it is an issue with your car unless someone has been playing around with the cables, but you did ask how to adjust the shift.
  23. They say we do not get the 987 in the US until January. Can't wait to hear it with the 2 separate mufflers. Porsche really covered the underside.
  24. I am a Boxster guy, so the 996 people can correct me. The 996 came to the US as a model year 1999. There was just one button on the remote for the door locks/alarm. In 2001 Porsche added a second button for the front trunk. The only 3 button 996 remote I have seen in person is Jay's 2002 996 turbo Ruf. I played with the third button and made the top go up and down with the button on the remote. A US car does not have this feature on the remote. But on a US car we can open and close the top with the key in the door lock.
  25. It is a vent tube. Does not matter where it is. There is a mackgoo on spyderclub.com. Is that you?
