  1. It is not sold as a separate part.
  2. 2003 electrical system is way different than a 1999. No open trunk lid warning lights on your year, and the other things you have noticed. See if you can get a 1999 owners manual.
  3. If you look/bend over the lower door seal you will see 2 slits in the sheet metal that are drains. They are hard to see. You should also make sure the drain on either side of the battery is clear to eliminate that as a source.
  4. C02 is the country equipment code for the US. Canada is C36. Mexico is C34. Germany is C00. For example. It can include everything from emission equipment, warning stickers, to the idiot lights on the instrument cluster.
  5. Front black one is set up for a Boxster and the seal gray painted one in the back for a 996. We had to take the extension off the painted one and put it on the other console because it was going in a 996.
  6. I do not see a blank plate for that location on the parts list. You would have to get something custom made, as Porsche does not have such a part.
  7. For the 2.5 non e-gas cars, 1997-1999, there has only been one sensor. Period. No reprogram is needed when it is replaced with the same sensor as there is just only one sensor part number. You cannot use the other sensors as the DME version changed when e-gas came out. The VINs in Lorens list are 2000. No updated sensor for us 2.5 owners, as Porsche no longer supports the antiques.
  8. There are 3 of them at Stevens Creek Porsche. Pictures of #1 and #3 at their open house for the new Boxster yesterday. Yes, their new testers are numbered 1-3, just like the old PST2s were.
  9. This is not an uncommon complaint on the UK message boards since they have so much rain. The first thing to check is the door 'membrane' which is really just a thin plastic cover to keep water away from the door panel. It is glued in place so that water does not seep to the door panel.
  10. The change, according to the shop manual, happened on May 5, 1999. Mark and I have taken a few of the old style transmissions apart and they were in fine condition, and the top worked when the car was put back together. Full retail on the new style transmissions and cables is about $1,000. That is what a dealer would do. We try to avoid that and get good parts back into working condition.
  11. Do not understand your question. Do not know what plastic plate you want. If you are looking for the trim piece in the pic it is 996 552 287 00 01C. If you want to remove the cupholders then there is no blanking plate that goes there to cover the hole. Instead, you remove the cup holder assembly and move the a/c display up to where the cupholders use to be. Then you put in a storage bin to where the a/c display use to be.

  13. That is a strange one. Unless you have a bad transmission I do not see how it can come off gear without breaking or bending parts. I wonder if you could have the V lever 180 degrees off. If you had broken parts I would say the switch with the lever that sticks out is bad. This is the switch that makes contact with the bottom of the clamshell. That switch tells the motor the top is down and turns off the motor. Maybe someone else will have a better answer.

  15. Ignition switch needs to be replaced. Buy it from Audi/VW because Porsche no longer sells it.
  16. I have jumped my Boxster with my truck and used my Boxster to jump a Jeep. Did not have a problem.
  17. The 996 console has a removable extension on the back that is not used in a 986.
  18. The Costco in Santa Clara has not had the 47 in stock the last few times I have been there. I was there today - still not in stock. There is no sticker on the racks for a 48. But I did buy a 25 for my Toyota truck. The last one I bought several years ago had a 2 year free replacement warranty. The one I bought today is 3 years. Update. I was at the Costco in Mountain View today and they had plenty of 47s on the shelf. No sticker for a 48.

  20. I have always liked the cut-away pictures, but have never seen such a car in person. I have warned the folks at my dealer that I will be at the open house the 19th with my sawzall and a bunch of carbide blades. Then around March, I hope Peter will do a joint 997/987 tech session with the cars on a lift and taken apart. I did take a peek to see what was under the shift boot. Updated with some open house pictures.
  21. That is because I changed Aileen's oil and filter. She thought she saw a spider under her car and Henry knew I would not let a drop of oil hit his driveway. :P Good to see almost as many 996s as Boxsters. Can't wait until the 997/987s show up. And Loren never met a throttle body he did not want to remove.....
  22. Only Henry would try to set this thing up. It did not work and was not needed. Then Loren shows how to stick a hand in. Then there is Carlos. A very good mechanic. :clapping: Think I removed 5 used spark plugs and then tried to put in 6 new ones. Then there is Aileen/Madam No Fear. How to change the oil and not get your hands dirty. And yes, when I looked at the pictures on my camera, she got the guys. Stay tuned.....
  23. Went over again today for a second look. Pulled the rubber plug out. Spoiler switch is gone from the fuse box - now below the radio like the 997. Some tool kit. Top switch is next to the brake. Wiper speed switch on the stalk.
  24. Twist the knob back and forth. A lot of movement. This will expand the plastic sleeve that keeps you from pulling it up and out. Very tight friction fit. Only the optional knobs have a set screw.
  25. Very good. It is said that the 987 Boxster S and 997 6 speed transmissions are made by the Japanese company AISIN. Don't think this is true. I think the Boxster manual transmissions (which say made in Germany) are still made by Getrag, and the 997 manual transmissions (which say made in Japan) are made by AISIN. http://www.aisin.com/ Both 6 speed transmissions use to be made by the German company, Getrag. http://www.en.getrag.de/180 I have been told the Cayenne has an AISIN transmission, and the window sticker says 'Made in Japan', just like the 997 sticker.
