  1. Last work on cars day was January 15th. That pastel yellow is Calvin's car we worked on a few summers ago, after he got a $2,000 esitimate for a broken top drive and twisted clamshell. We fixed it for about $200 in parts. Saw Calvin last Saturday at the Carlsen Boxster open house and his top still works. We don't use science, just big hammers. :P
  2. Come to a work on cars day when Mark can be there. We will give it a 'tweak.'
  3. What do you mean by play or lash. Do you feel it when your hand is on the shift knob and you are on and then off the gas. What do you mean buy not a real clunk, or does not feel as tight as it should be. How long have you owned the car and when did you first notice this. Not enough info. Try another 6 speed Boxster and see if what you think is something wrong is normal.
  4. Look in the trunk behind the tail light housing. You will see 2 black round plastic things. Unscrew them and pull back the carpet. Then you will see the black plastic bulb holder that has all the bulbs for the light. Remove the holder and replace the bulb.
  5. I do not have it but I sort of know Stefan who lived in Germany but now in Kansas. The top relay/control unit is the same for 2000-2004. Does not matter if it is the base or the S.
  6. The lever is to bleed air. The air bleed has 1 or 2 O-rings and if they are bad you can get condensation on the trunk lid. But if you do not have the 01 cap that is where I would start.
  7. Nothing fancy on how the boot is attached to the knob with the optional shifts.

  9. Nope. But in fact when I looked under the drivers seat I did not see a control unit in the usual place. And neither is the relay tray. Hard to take a decent picture under the seat.
  10. This is how we do it on a Boxster.
  11. The color is due to whatever dye is put in. I went to AutoZone and Prestone had what I thought were 2 different coolants, until I looked at the back of the container and compared the list of chemicals. They were identical. I should have opened the one that said 'any color' antifreeze just to see what color it was. This has to be a marketing thing to sell the same product packaged differently. Go back to you dealer and compare the Porsche/VW/Audi list of chemicals on the back of the container. I know there is a list on the 1 liter black containers sold by Porsche, so I assume VW/Audi coolant has the same list. Then let us know if the only difference is the color.
  12. My front sensors have been tied to the brake lines for a while as the rotors were getting close to the sensors. I am going to wear the pads down to the backing plate before I replace them. Some aftermarket pads do not have the holes for the sensors. We put Hawk front pads on Jean's car and there were no holes. I just bought Mintex front pads and there are no holes.
  13. I have been to Baltimore because my brother use to live in that area. I would fly out to give you a hand but there is white stuff on the ground this time of year. Plus I do not know what kind of beer and chips you serve. How about if I send out a deck of cards instead. :D
  14. The standard shift knob/boot is a single part/piece. You have to cut the boot to get the knob off. The optional shifts are 2 separate parts/pieces. If you remove the 2 black plastic ties then you can remove the knob from the boot. If you lift up your shift boot you will see what I mean. Gert must have a source for just the boot or just the 6 speed knob, because I do not think Porsche sells it as separate parts. He may not have a source for just the knob with the crest for the 5 speed. Perhaps he thought you also wanted just the knob, and not the assembly. Do not spend money in reliance on my part number. This is an educated guess. I can't tell what shift for sure it is without seeing it. In fact I just found this old pic of when that 6 speed shift with the crest first came out and I remember the complaints that is was not colored. Like the 2000 S air bag crest was silver.
  15. Of course he is joking. Everyone knows that hydrogen has a greater lifting capacity than helium and better suited to reduce unsprung weight. Then you put on a red cap because hydrogen burns. Like the Hindenburg....
  16. Your shift knob will work with that boot. It is hard to figure out part numbers for shifts because there is only a hundred of them and no pictures. Dannov said the 6 speed is 996 424 981 15 VRJ. VRJ is the code for black. This part is listed with the options 480 and X97. 480 is 6 speed manual transmission. I do not know what fancy interior option X97 is. I see listed 986 424 981 05 VRJ, with options 481 and X97. 481 is 5 speed manual transmission, and since it starts with 986 it would be a Boxster only part as the 996 does not have a 5 speed manual transmission. So the 5 speed version might exist. A long time ago I think Gert had for sale just the aluminum look trim. You might check.
  17. If you did not have the cd holder then there would be a bin in it's place. I think that bin is the one that goes in where the radio was. Don't think the bin below the cd holder will work. A cd holder in a car with no radio....
  18. What kind of shift knob are you going to attach to the boot. The boot is for a knob that has a round part.
  19. Nope. This is the compressor and sealant.
  20. Not a heater core. Plus I do not think the CD changer and navigation unit would be happy if it was. Different car, same black box. This car has the CD changer and navigation unit.
  21. I have had 2 shifts on my car over the years. The stitching on the first was black and the second a lighter color. I seem to remember Porsche changed the thread over the years.
  22. Porsche has a cover if you do not have a radio. Saw one on euro ebay a while ago but you should be able to order it. You can also put a storage bin there.
  23. I do not remember either. We pull them off. I think Mark puts them back on. Maybe these pictures will help.
  24. I do not know what for sure what mean when you say the gauge stays at 0 since there are three 0s on the gauge. If you car runs at normal temp but dumps liquid on the ground through the overflow tube then it might be the blue cap. See if you have the 01 cap and if not replace it and report back. Also, at a coolant tech session Bob said he tests all replacement caps before he puts it in the car, since even a replacement may not hold pressure even if it is new.
  25. Do you have part numbers for the seals, which I assume would be Brembo part numbers.
