  1. Sandy took this picture of the emergency release cable behind the driver's side tail light. Good place for it since you can't get to it. I did ask a mechanic how he gets to it. He shoves a thin tool under the bottom edge of the light and fishes for the cable.
  2. The local group met Larry and the monster boxster a few months ago at a tech session put on by Tim Benson at Fast Lane Porsche in Santa Cruz. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...3159&hl=monster Larry showed me some pictures of the intake he had made.
  3. I am a Boxster guy. We use the cell phone connector because there is a switched 12 volts. This Boxster guy did it with the power to the dome light, but it is not switched, so we do not do it that way. Not sure how you 996ers do it. http://boxster.scottonline.net/radar.html
  4. Yep, you can look in the hole to see the level. Next. What is the red thing in this RHD.
  5. Battery cut off it is. My dealer has a box of them ready to be sent back. Strange that rod is not mentioned in the owners manual, because it is not mentioned on the paper fuse list. I was told the Cayenne also has something like this. Running out of stuff. What is the cut-out shaped like a triangle for in the black plastic cover. Loren can't look because he told me as I was a bit late for the new Boxster tech session.
  6. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...3-EF5E612911E9} Find out if your dealer fixes this or a body shop as it is a known problem. I think some guy shoved in some plastic anchors like the kind used in drywall. Funny thing is Peter is the shop foreman at my dealer and I was at the body shop he mentions in the article 2 years ago when my car was hit. The body shop owner showed me a Boxster that had the same problem and he was waiting to see if Porsche would cover it under warranty. I should have asked him to show me how they fix it. This owner fixed it himself. http://www.flat-6.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14020
  7. Press below the crest where the latch is.
  8. I have not been keeping up on the MOST stuff. People have been holding their breath for Dension to come out with something for the MOST fiber optic CDR-23. Some have used an FM modulator. The 220 does have aux-in. The 220 is the same as Traffic Pro but without the navigation. Search on Traffic Pro and there are a few people who have put this in a MOST car, with some glitches, and you will lose your amp if you have one since it fiber optic.
  9. There are several felt pads on the regulator which collect grease. You can see one in the middle of the white pulley. They are removed or replaced. It is no big deal to take the door panel off.
  10. Can someone see if the rod is mentioned in a 987 owners manual. I was told it was to remove the key if the key becomes stuck in the ignition. The ignition switch has a cap you pry off. There is a hole under the cap. You stick the rod in the hole to release the key. Next question. What is this cable thing next to the battery with a round red thing on the end.
  11. Where are the gory pictures?
  12. The mounting pins are metal. It helps to have 2 people. One grabs what little sticks out with pliers that have sharp teeth, and the other turns the 8 mm nut with a socket. Then I solder the pin back on. I have done this for local owners who press on the crest to close the trunk.
  13. That is a handy Bosch chart. I can decode the Boxster oem 2.5 Super plug with the Bosch part number FR 7 LDC4 as an example. F is the thread size or 14 mm x 1.25 mm. R is for resistor. 7 is the heat range. L is the length of the threads. D is 2 side electrodes. C is copper. 4 is an extended insulator. Can't do that with the Platinum +4 plug as the number is simply 4417.
  14. With an engine a dye is put in the oil that can be seen with a special light. No clue how transmission leaks are traced.
  15. Hint on the rod.
  16. I like the questions in the article. I have suggested that someone with a 2.5 that has 2 side electrodes might want to try the 4 side electrode type plug used on the 2.7/3.2. As pointed out in the question the problem is the 2 electrode plug sold by Porsche has a heat range 7, while the 4 electrode plug sold by Porsche is a 6. Some time ago I searched the net for a Bosch Super plug with 4 electrodes with a 7 heat range for use on a 2.5 and came up with nothing. The question also points out a question I have had with the Bosch Platinum +4 plug with a part number 4417. What is the heat range. Companies that sell this plug list the same plug for the 2.5/2.7/3.2, but we know the heat range for a 2.5 is different than a 2.7/3.2. I have not been able to verify the heat range of this plug, other than to assume, like in the question, that the 7 at the end of 4417 is the heat range. As pointed out by Scott, more electrodes does not necessarily mean it is a better plug, rather it is the design of the plug. I do not follow Scott when he mentions indexing, other than as a generic response. If you have a 4 electrode plug in the middle of the combustion chamber and 4 valves per cylinder, then the most electrodes that can face the intake valves is two.
  17. How about the Spanish flag? Looks good with the Union Jack.
  18. So, almost a year later. The new style bolt with the shorter head is ..... on the right.
  19. I paid $400 years ago for both. Got it from local owner Chris Murray when he converted his S into a track car. Since he has a 2000 it is the silver crest. I got a good deal. Funny thing is, no one wanted the silver crest back then, now they do. I had given up on ebay because the prices got jacked up to over $600. When my friend Dave turned in his leased car a few years ago he sold his 3 spoke to Harry Wong for $500. I know them both so I said $500 was a fair price. I took the wheel out of Dave's car and put it in Harry's. There was a guy selling the pair on rennlist and I told Patrick Tam about it. I told Patrick $500 was a good price. Patrick bought it from the rennlist guy for that price and I put it in at the Sunnyvale tech session. Harry and Patrick have the colored crest. Both the wheel and air bag were perfect. Then Madam No Fear got the pair for free, but you do not want to know how. If you can get it for $500 then you got a deal.
  20. Tim Benson's shop in Santa Cruz. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3159&hl=
  21. So, we met at my office. I have a twin. Something wrong with his changer or head unit as none of my magazines worked on his car, and his magazine worked in my changer.
  22. I was at the parts counter today and spoke to the guy who took your order. You are the second person he knows of to order the hardtop electrical connector, as you said. I saw these pictures at the counter.
  23. No experience other than I was talking to a mechanic yesterday and a 987 came in with some problem with the navigation unit. It had been retrofitted. I left as it was being hooked up to the PIWIS so I don't know what the issue was.
  24. So, I think you are the guy. I was at Stevens Creek today to get a re-bend on my clamshell and figure out why my timing is beyond me. Peter said a guy with a glass top replacement had just come in because the GAHH top did not come with the connector from the glass window to the plug. You need to order it from the hardtop parts list. Apparently, a similar connector is included with the BAS top.
  25. This is the company that makes the glass. http://www.saint-gobain-sekurit.com/anglais/default.asp If I can believe the internet, if the same glass made by the same company is sold without the Porsche logo then it is "aftermarket" glass. Insurance companies have deals with glass companies, as it saves them money. So they want you to use their glass company.
