Early Boxsters built in Stuttgart

Probably yes. But what are the chances that both my keys go defective at the same time, just when i have replaced the batteries in the keys?.. Doesn't sound right...

I have tried all of this myself, and remote locking/unlocking still doesn't work. At the moment i have given up, and just lock/unlock the car with the key... I'm thinking that it might be either my alarm box, or the fuse on my alarmbox (which is under the drivers seat)... But then, should the alarm work at all? A Porsche dealer wants like $300 for a new programmed key-head here.... Which is just insane. I won't pay that unless i know that it will work 100%, which i can't find out, since it's a 8 hours drive to the dealership...

Are both of them Porsche specific tools, or are they used on other brands of cars also? Oh, and, does anyone know how i can reset the Tiptronic learning memory? I read on some VW forums that they had to put the key in the ignition and press and hold the gas pedal down for 8 seconds for the tiptronic transmission to reset the learning it has saved.

Yep, our roads aren't straight forward. Consider all our roads to be what you look at old backcountry roads like, lots of twists and turns with mountains and rivers flowing all over the place... Very fun in the summer (takes only 4-5 hours then, if you speed alot, our speedlimit is 80km/h here, which is roughly around 55mph i guess?) But during the winter it's a different story, snowy roads and ice all over the place... Not fun. Especially not with a Boxster without TC :) Yep i have considered changing the ATF and filter. But if the solenoids are bad aswell (very common on this ZF Tiptronic transmission apparently, especially on VW's, and since it's the same transmission...) i might aswell change them while i'm at it. For all i know it might just be a low ATF oil level. Is there a easy way to check this without special equipment?

How can i read out the tiptronic fault memory? and shouldn't the CEL light up if/when the tiptronic logs a failure? I have a generic CEL reader, but it doesn't read Porsche specific codes. And the nearest Porsche service center is like 40 miles away and takes like 8 hours to drive to... So that's out of the question.

Hi My '98 Boxster 2.5 has a Tiptronic gearbox and the car has 77000 miles on the clock. During the last 3000 miles approximately my car has been starting to downshift very hard (as if you where to drop the clutch totally on a manual) when i have the tiptronic in manual mode, this happens most when i downshift from 4th to 3rd gear. But also in other gears. It does not always happen, but it happens more and more often. This can't be healthy for the car, because the entire car gets a serious jerk when this happen, and i'm thinking that the rear driveline/axle's and so on will take damage from this over time. It's also dangerous when it happens on wet/icy roads in turns for example, since the rear wheels will "lock up" when this happens and the rear will come out. In auto-mode the car shifts mostly as it should, but i think the shifts have become more rough lately than they were when i got the car. The gearbox does not slip at all, and works as it should. I have never experienced any CEL/fault codes either. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Could it be too little ATF oil? or could it be fixed by just doing a ATF oil and filter change? I have searched on google about this and got some VW articles that explained that this could be caused by the tiptronic's valve cover and/or the solenoids in the transmission aswell... Please help me out here, as i'm kinda scared to drive the car as it is now, because if the transmission gets broken, well... then i get broke aswell :|

99 Boxster engine misfire when starting cold

I've had the same problem (especially during our unstable winter temperatures that fluctuate alot) and a small can of gas condensation remover (i have no idea what the product might be named where you are) fixed it. I usually fill one of these small bottles in my gasoline tank at every 3-4 fillups just to be sure. Without it my engine sometimes does not run properly when it is cold, and it has also misfired once. So get yourself a small bottle of gas moisture remover or whatever it is named where you are and pour it in the tank :) -
But if that's the case, the lights on the key should'nt work as normal should they? I bought Varta batteries (dunno if they are a big brand in the US, but they are in Europe).

Hmm, didnt quite understand this. So basically i have to insert the battery the wrong way, wait ten seconds, slide it around (which means turning it around in the battery holder while it is inserted the wrong way?), remove the battery, insert the battery the wrong way again, wait 3 seconds and remove it again and insert it the correct way?

Yep i changed batteries in both keys. And both keys worked before i changed the batteries. But the batteries was about 1 year old so i thought i might aswell change them because i had to get like right by the car to have the remote locking/unlocking to work. But after i changed the batteries one of the keys didnt work at all, and one barely worked for a while... They both blink red when i press them, so there is power... Weird. Do i have to reprogram the keys or something? Or could it be my alarm box that is faulty? I've had some leaks but i have covered up the alarm box with a few ziplock bags and ducktape so no water at all should come in to the alarmbox. And anyway i think it's weird that it should happen just when i changed batteries on the keys...

As the topic says, i changed the batteries in both of my remote keys at the same time. One of the keys didn't work at all after this, and one stopped working after a month or so. Any ideas?

Thanks, many good points here. I need to get them checked out. The problem is that it's winter here, and i do mean winter, we've had like 50-60 cm's of snow the last three days alone! And i don't have a garage. And i need the car for work every day. I guess i'll just wait until spring or if i find a garage that i can use for some days. And even still i need to dry out the carpet that is soaked, which is THICK...
