  1. Just to close out this thread. The knock I had was a result of a crappy Korean made serpentine belt that was replaced during the 60K service. On the smooth side it was starting to come apart and was missing a 1/2 inch chunk which was causing the knock as it went over the pullies. It disappeared at higher RPM because it moved too fast over the pullies. All is well.
  2. On a 2001 Boxster S, with 79K miles, Can someone tell me what the signs and symtoms of a failing chain tensioner would be? How would one properly diagnose that one is failing? Would the symtoms be the same for the VarioCam as well as the 3 chain adjusters for IMS, Banks 1-3 and 4-6? Thanks Dan
  3. I'll check on the location tonight. And get a better description. Dan
  4. I have a 2001 S with 78K mile. This weekend start to pick up a knock. Its a contant steady knocking sound that doesn't seem to vary with RPM. Can someone tell me what the symptoms of a failing water pump are? I don't have any leaks, but am wondering if the bearing is going bad. Car is running great. I'll take it in to have it looked at, just curious about possibliities. I'm hoping its something simple. Dan
  5. Thanks for the replies. No emissions here in Montana either, so its not a crisis at this point. The car is running like a champion. I'm going to wait and see if anything else pops up. I was unsure which cat the code was referring to. If it is the after cat I might see what a used one goes for. I'd rather be saving for a new pending clutch and IMS bearing upgrade than a silly cat! Cheers Dan
  6. Question, I've got this code (P0430) on my 2001 Boxster S, just turned 75,000 miles yesterday. I've read through lots of earlier posts, so I'm clear on what the code is is. What I don't know, or am confused on is this; Bank 2 = Driver's Side (USA), Correct? Then which cat is faulty? The Exhaust Manifold Cat, (does the '02 have these) or the Other Cat? What do they mean by "Before starter Catalytic convertor", "After Starter Catalytic convertor"? It seems reasonable that 02 sensors at 75000 might need to be changed. Looking at the PET parts listing and diagram has me confused. :help: Sorry for being such a dunce!
  7. Thanks Loren, Its appreciated. Dan
  8. Can I get some help Identifing the following part? This is a little plastic "spoiler" on the leading edge of the rear fender wells located at the bottom. The attached picture shows what I'm referring to. Mine is torn and needs replacing. Thanks for the help Dan 2001 Boxster S
  9. There is also this one. http://www.maxspeed-motorsports.com/porschegascap.html
  10. Thanks Mike, Another great tip Dan
  11. Thanks Maurice for the input and headsup. Just what I needed to know. It is very much appreciated, Dan
  12. The plastic window in my 2001 S finally cracked on the side. I want to remove the top to have it repaired, but I need some input and opinions. I've read all the various topics on removal, plus I have the manual describing it so that should be good. 1. Once removed, will the top fold down flat like when it is installed insitu? (I want to ship it to a place for repair that I know has done this (install new plastic window) before and pick it up a week or so later when I will be there in my SUV) 2. Once the top is removed, can I then lower the lid back to the closed position? 3. Could I drive the car if needed, or will I get a myriad of codes, etc. Anything else to be concerned with? Thanks Dan
  13. I found the other thread about this switch and bought a replacement at NApa for $8.00. Will see tonight if it works, or if the switch had been replaced to the new one in the past. either way I'm covered. Dan
  14. So here’s where I’m at: A great Indie shop Motorsports Northwest in Boise told me it is most likely the ignition switch. He gave me the part number and said when I ask Sunset Porsche about it to ask about the part upgrade since he knew it was there, but didn’t have the details at his fingertips. A quick search through the Tech Bulletins (Worth the price of admission) on this site quickly yielded the appropriate document. Ordered from Sunset, instock prices less than else where and now enroute to Montana. More great service from them. What I still lack is the following documentation: Boxster Technical Manual, Group 4 Repairs: 48-23 Removing and installing ignition switch 48-25 Removing and installing barrel lock 48-37 Replacing Steering lock I’m curious if this is a DIY or if I should find someone locally to do it. I’m not sure how to remove the old switch. I’ve learned there is always a hard way and the correct (easier) way. Thoughts? Dan
  15. This morning something strange happened. My car is a 2001 Boxster S. I inserted the key to start as normal. There was an audible CLICK from the ignition switch. I turned the car off and the Key wouldn’t come out, it was locked in. I restarted the car, stopped and the key comes out. Restart and drive to work. Then I notice the AC snowflake light isn’t coming on, nor do I have any air blowing from the vents. I manually raise and lower the fan speed but nothing. Once at work, I checked the fuse for the AC Heating that seemed o.k. But something feels wrong with the ignition switch for certain. Can this be related? There aren’t any dashboard warning lights. Thoughts? Dan
