  2. Hey all, My alternator was dying so after doing some research around these forums, I decided to have it rebuilt myself instead of buying a new unit. I followed some of the write ups people have on here and had a hell of a time trying to get the thing out, but its out now. Unfortunately, in the process, I snapped something and it looked like part of a coolant line (from the green fluid that came out). Its not the black line above the alternator but actually a plastic line/hose connector type piece to the right of it. I've circled the piece in the picture here. The lines are fine, its just the plastic nipple part is broken off inside of it. My question is, do any of you know what this piece is, and can I order it separately? Also, since I lost the little bit of coolant (assuming it really is coolant) from the lines, should I do a coolant flush/refill when I replace that part? Thanks guys, I can get better pictures of the part later, I just borrowed a pic from someone elses write-up here.
  3. I recently changed out all of my coils at 47K miles. 2 of them had serious cracks and I decided to do all of them while down there because the whole process was a huge PITA and I didn't want to do it again.
  4. Well I bought the car from Pennsylvannia and I guess they get a decent amount of snow, I guess that could explain it somewhat. Also, when I got new coils, the parts number started with 997 instead of 996, so i took them back to the dealer who told me that Porsche had changed the parts/# to that. Hopefully that means I got the "new material" ones from Beru because I NEVER want to have to do that again! And 5-10 minutes for muffler removal/re-install? Haha, maybe for a guru like yourself, but for a mere mortal with a set of Craftsman tools, I dedicated an hour to it~
  5. Posted up here last week about my car running like crap and throwing a check engine light. A few people mentioned that I should check the coils/plugs (btw: Thanks!) and lo and behold this is what I found: So how long are these things supposed to last? Mine look like they could have/should have been changed long ago but my car has 47K miles on it. The manual doesn't show these needing any attention til much further down the line. PS: That was the toughest/most annoying plug and coild change I have EVER done! I don't even know how some of you managed to do it without taking the mufflers out~
  6. Thanks for the replies guys. I thought it might be plug/coil related (the car has 47K miles) but the timing of it is what threw me off (that it happened after sitting for 2.5 weeks). Oh well, guess I have to take it somewhere to have the codes read and spend more money on it! And it was my girlfriend's father who started up the car for me... hmmm... <_<
  7. Hey Everyone, My 02 Carrera II drove perfectly up to a few weeks ago; I had to go out of the country so it sat for 2.5 weeks (was started for me once during that time). I just drove it again and it drives really rough until it gets to 3K. It almost sounds like it has huge/lumpy cams on it and the power delivery is not linear. Any quick checks I might do or do I need to take it somewhere? It even threw a check engine/drive to workshop display for a second. Thanks in advance for any advice! Danny
