  1. Hi Loren, Never, but my throttle body was new when the new engine was installed (I assume). This was a complete Porsche engine assembly from PNA. Simon
  2. I have a 2004 C2 with a new engine <6K miles - Not a cronic issue, but if I start the engine when it's hot, i.e. imediately after stopping it, as the engine fires up I hear a little bit of a 'clatter'. Also, sometimes it takes a little longer before the engine fires up. When the engine is cold it starts up very quickly and smoothly. Is this normal or is there some underlying issue here. No codes btw. Thanks, in advance. Simon
  3. Btw 'reboot' was in quotes because all I meant was power it off and then on again :) Simon
  4. I almost beg you not to buy this for 5K and try to repair it. Get it for 2500 (or less) and part it out over the next year. You might make enough profit to pay for the shipping for a complete car from the states. That said, you need a market for the parts and I'm not sure you have one where you live... Even if you do rebuilt this it will never have any value as a used car since no one will buy it with a rebuild history like you are anticipating.. Simon
  5. Yep, 2004 C2, I've experienced the same thing. It used to happen more often (once every 3 months) but hasn't happened is the last 1+ years. The other day this happened and I just 'rebooted' the stereo and all was good. It's a design bug with the stereo - there are other reports about this on the forum. Simon
  6. Wow - walk away :) Looks like the frame is bent, plus I imagine the impact caught the front wheel, so brakes, axel, tires, bent wheel, plus cooling system, all that body work..... yuck Buy it for $500.... then buy a used one from the US and use this one for parts and perhaps a spare engine if you ever need it..... Simon
  7. Search on the forum, but I believe you just buy a special cable assembly and you are set. Simon
  8. Wow - this thread is a total buzz kill - I just want to read about unecessary mods I can make to my expensive toy, not all this rhetoric - ironically I'm encouraging it. Simon
  9. Joaquin, Respectfully, performance cars do have problems, and typically they are expensive to fix. PNA did replace my engine, although not with an IMS failure, after the warranty ran out. I was very happy. No one forced you to buy this car. If you don't want the assumed risk and additional liability, sell it and buy a less expensive / performance car. Suing Porsche AG isn't the solution here. It just makes everything more expensive for everybody and fuels more litigation. Simon
  10. Because the S has a wider body and different tail pipes, so anybody that cares could tell you were just trying to make out you spent more on your car... like the AMG tags I see on regular Mercs. Kinda silly doing that IMHO :)
  11. Check the bolt that holds the wiper - it's likely loose. Simon
  12. Thanks! - I guess my follow-on question is the Schnell and Fabspeed products look almost identical, however the Fabspeed is 3x the price - what are the differences, if any?? Simon
  13. Hi - thinking of installing a Schnell intake (orange tube) on my 2004 C2. I have a warranty on the engine only (replacement) - will this mod void my warranty? Thanks in advance, Simon
  14. I own a C2 so I'm not totally qualified to answer this, but it seems you could also just look under the front of the car and see if the front wheels are driven or not. I assume there is a diff somewhere under there. (edit note: get a picture under the car...) Anyhow, lack of a 4 (and the S) means your seller doesn't' know what they are talking about :) Simon
  15. The front seats in my 2004 US 996 C2 Cab are rather noisy when I adjust them backwards and forwards (binding noise). Any suggestions on how to lubricate them? thanks, Simon
  16. 41 - 2004 996 C2 cab
  17. I had a 2004 C2 with 42,000 mile. I had a rattle from the rear and the dealer took a look inside the engine, saw scaring and told me I needed a new engine. They quoted roughly 16K. Since the car had been serviced at the same dealer, and since I was 4 months out of warranty they contacted Porsche NA to see if they would help me out, perhaps split the difference. In about 12 hours they responded that they were shipping a replacement upgraded engines at no cost and all I would need to do is pay for the installation ~3K. What great service!! The punchline is that thet rattle was actually the left cat - which they also replaced under warranty. All in all I got an upgraded engine, no need to do any service any time soon and a 2 year warranty for 3K, so no complaints at all. Simon
  18. I had almost the same sound and it was one of the cats. I got a post 02 out of spec code at about the same time. Note that when I took it into the dealer, they ended up replacing the engine FIRST, then discovered that the noise was one of the catalytic convectors... That's a whole other story. Simon
  19. Yep, agreed. Don't add a bunch of crap to your car. You will spend a ton of money that's better put towards perhaps an 05, S or something. Also, don't race on the roads because you stand a chance of killing someone else. Simon
  20. Don't get me wrong - my 911 is the best car I have ever drive without any doubt. It's just that the engine really can't be repaired, so any major issue requires a 10K USD engine and 3500 USD labour. Basically the TCO is fairly high for these cars vs. a Honda (obviously). That said, go for it - if it dies before the 9th month window, sell it for salvage. Simon
  21. My recommendation would be to save up and purchase a 2002+ with lower miles (echoing what somebody else on this thread said). That said, these cars at any age can fail - mine failed at 42K miles. If you have enough money to insure and maintain these cars, best bet is to go for a more recent model - given the economy right now you will get a more modern, more powerful car and lessen the risk. Simon
  22. I have just got a new engine in my 04 C2 (I'll post that saga later..). The dealer said "under 3K RPM for the next 1-2K miles" - any other advice? Should I change the oil after the running in period? thanks, Simon
  23. I have a 2004 C2 and have exactly the same issue. Very occasionally (~4 times) I get silence except a hi pitched whistle and "porsche" displayed on the radio. I cycle the ignition a couple of times and it clears. It 'might' be temperature related as the AMP gets really hot in the summer. This happened too few times to worry. about it I imagine all CDR-23 systems have this issue - either thermal or software. Simon
  24. You need to buy Porsche OEM since the passenger side has a curve in two axis to fit the wind shield properly. 3rd party replacements from pep boys for example, will hit the edge of the windshield on the passenger side. Simon
  25. I had a couple of guys try to race me in a 1990'ish ford taurus..... I have no idea what they were thinking. I've had everything from Corvettes to Honda's to Ferraris. Lost count quite frankly. It's the old clunkers that are the best though.. Simon
