  1. I knew it! I'm just glad that you didn't have to purchase the new computer unit. I remember what your local mechanic guy told you, something like new unit is needed then reprogrammed-WOW,,, Can u imagine spending around $1000 and not having your car for a few days.
  2. Ok, That's just the way your central locking system works . As soon as you push your remote button to lock the car, it also automatically arms your alarm when that happens your M535 computer is detecting a short in the system that is causing your blown fuse problem. I wasn,t saying it is the micro s/w u are facing ,that was just for an example since it was the 1 of many alarm contacts. It could be that brn/wht horn wire as I showed or u might need a new M536 then reprogrammed.
  3. This is what I use,,,Go with the HILITE bulbs I changed my silverstars w/ these.
  4. It's your battery, replace it with Optima gel. Once battery drains all the way they just dont hold the charge like they used to, w/ a new battery I bet she will start right up.
  5. 1998 Porsche Boxster Security Information Constant 12V+ Red/White Ignition Switch Harness Starter Yellow Ignition Switch Harness Ignition Black Ignition Switch Harness Trunk Pin Brown/Red (-) Trunk Light Parking Lights Gray/Black Gray/Red at Light Switch Door Trigger Brown/Yellow (-) Driver's Kick Panel Door Lock Brown/White (-) Driver's Kick Panel Door Unlock Brown/Red (-) Horn Wire Brown/White (-) Behind Relay Panel I've seen a few cases similar to your situation. In fact, last week we had a car came in for the same symptom and we end up finding a faulty micro switch on the driver's side door(of course,,,). Yes it is the same switch serves as window lowering. In his case it was the micro switch (shorted register) that caused a short . then it kept blowing the M535(alarm module) fuse. My guess is probably your door trigger , center console contact or horn wire.. And it is impossible to just disable your alarm feature, It is possible on 987's you can always pull your horn fuse out see if that helps. lol have your code read! (PST2). You might have to replace your alarm computer module.
  6. It sounds like ,,,it is the starter! Most likely your solenoid is going out so, it works whenever it wants to. I'd check on your starter first before doing anything else.
  7. Almost impossible to find a set of after market 16", they just don't make em. When they do it's usually OEM replica but I've seen some 17"s Anyone ?
  8. Graph of Idle Problem: I learned of a "DME upgrade" for the engine control software/calibration. Porsche has identified this problem to be engine computer calibration related. Here is a list of other possible causes - 1. Idle Air Bypass Valve Hysteresis (Sticking) 2. Mass Air Flow Sensor – Inaccurate at low engine speed transient conditions 3. Intake Manifold Pressure Sensor, Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor, or Throttle Position Sensor in-range failure/out-of-specification – could effect air flow prediction calculation (not likely, Mass Air Flow Sensor should perform this measurement) 4. Higher than expected accessory load from the air conditioner, etc. 5. Intake manifold air leak (not likely, would result in higher idle speeds, not lower) 6. Software expecting low accessory loads and/or gain is too slow to react at higher accessory loads. (not likely, problem would be much more wide-spread?) 7. Fuel injection quantity too low or Oxygen Sensor incorrectly reading Air/Fuel ratio (not likely a fuel system problem, most likely air-control related)
  9. Same here...The annoying high-pitched screech that's sometimes heard when braking. A common ailment on many disc brake-equipped cars, it is caused by vibration between the brake pad and rotor. Squealing noise is really a high frequency vibration. Brake squeal can be eliminated by installing shims on the backs of brake pads, by applying anti-squeal compound . By doing this we can create a thin cushion barrier between the pad & caliper(to absorb). I use this product called "Noise Free Disc Brake Silencer" with my Mintex . Silicone based compound is designed to absorb the vibrational energy that causes brakes to squeal. My baby never squeal or squeak.
  10. I think you can also replace it with lighted mirror(more expensive). Sun coast Porsche is selling a kit(non-lighted) for $19.99+shipping on Ebay.
  11. The best Porsche garage is right here "RennTech.org Forums" . It was something you could've possibly fixed on your own in a few days instead of waiting for 5-6 weeks. :renntech: It amazes me too. However it does show the difference between a good garage and very bad one.
  12. Amazing! I just can't believe some tech wanna be guy had a car for 4 weeks without finding the fault. When I(we) can pin point the problem so quick over the INTERNET,,, WOW
  13. Good job! Thanks, yours looks good too. Fogies can stay the way they are as they don't get used much.
  14. glad, you figured it out. You were right. Hold down the top (clear plastic) tab and push forward, the top half lighter assembly comes out first then the bottom tab will come loose. Easier than it looks. Cheers
  15. How did you do your tail lights? Thanks, yours looks good too. Fogies can stay the way they are as they don't get used much.
  16. Thanks! hope u got that cigg lighter all figured out. Thanks, yours looks good too. Fogies can stay the way they are as they don't get used much.
  17. Yes, it is your high- beam stalk . Dealer will probably tell you the whole stalk switch assembly needs to be replaced and that can be steep=$$$, but if you know how to pull the air bag & steering wheel out then "you can do it". So I thought this might be able to help you. This is when the stalk is pushed towards the front of the car, in proper high beam position. Note the contacts.(your situation) this is when you pull the stalk to "flash" so, bent the high-beam actuation arm a little!
  18. The injectors need to be cleaned, if an engine is experiencing any of the classic symptoms of dirty injectors, such as lean misfire, rough idle, hesitation and stumbling on light acceleration, a loss of power, and higher hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions. And the other thing is you could also be dealing with malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator.
  19. Cool, glad to hear that. It'd be nice to get her going again but I don't see why they couldn't reprogram your old key. In this case I will call a few places and find out if its possible to get a second hand unit of the same kind...2.5 and tip whilst I await the result form the garage. It seems you are correct. A replacement unit is on its way. I have been told that with a second hand unit the immobiliser and keys have to be changed too.
  20. Looks cool! Now u need to upgrade your fog lights Thanks to this great thread now I have fantastic HIDs in my car! This is how I mounted the ballast...
  21. Once your green piece is removed whole cylinder should slide out forward. I believe there are 2 tabs you will need to pry and hold. If I understood you correctly I did already removed the black clip and also the green piece. Now its just the lighter assembly like in your picture, how do I get it loose from the trim piece?
  22. Check out my new topic "New rear window installed", might be able to help you Mytoy. Since I don't know how to insert my own topic. LOL
