  1. LOL, PK I don’t know the specifics of these thrust bearing. I do know that your essentially looking at a complete clutch job. There aren’t really many things to go wrong with clutch mechanism. Parts including your bearing are as low as $354 (oem, Sun Coast). That’s gonna cover everything that might be amok in there. Personally, depending on the size of your town, I’d check with an established independent Porsche or German auto repair shops. Ask them there price for new clutch, then say by the way… Dealers offer absolutely nothing a good independent can. They just cost a elluva lot more. Dealers make a large % of their overall profit on service. Your repair bill is keeping the showroom sparkling. Regards, PK
  2. sounds like something got stuck behind your CDR. Pull it out again, u will just have to work with it. slide your hand in there first try to fit the wires evenly. I usually use a few wire ties,,,
  3. It seems like, it is the thrust bearing. At idle with the engine running but not moving and the car in NEUTRAL press down the clutch pedal and repeat this a few times. When u pump the pedal if the sound changes, most likely you have a knackered thrust bearing. Probably had all the way to its minimal wear. its hard to damage anything any further at this point, but most likely your clutch assembly is already damaged, And YES in order for u to be sure- the thrust bearing needs to be inspected visually which requires a removal of your transmission. If your dealer quoted u $1800 thats is pretty cheap! Because when u need a new thrust bearing , u will also need a clutch job-100% recommended. Usual DEALER cost is around $3000.00. But if u r a bit handy, with Renntech club member's help I'm sure U can possibly repair this problem in a few days(HOPING). I recommend you to replace the whole clutch assembly. It saves a whole lot of mucking about later.
  4. U can buy those at automotion.com/ performance product-same company They have H&R spacers and extended bolts for low price$. The reason is I like the low profile 35 series, don't really like in 40' series. i also wanted to stay with factory spec-ed diameter which is 265/35/18, so my tranny doesn't throw that much! Since I got my tires today I need to throw them on. But I talk to Frank from Eurotech wheel again! offset for these wheels r 52mmF/58mmR .Can u do me a favor? djomlas look in your factory manual see what is ur factory offset spec when its 18?
  5. New tires just came in! I know you guys aren't really familiar with NEXEN brand. I'll let u know,,,
  6. Thanks djomlas. how much did they charge u? cuz i can buy longer lugs for $4.50 a piece.
  7. I agree! I just don't like the view behind the roll bar.
  8. Who did it? u? quote name='djomlas' date='Nov 2 2007, 09:37 PM' post='84116'] they are shaved off to the same thickness as the spacers, so its up to factory specs on turns and lenth.
  9. HAHAHA U welcome, Alan! I'm a aggressive driver. So I often push my motor all the way up to 7000 rpm, I just love the way she sounds above 4500 rpm. I haven't seen the Evo's shop dyno graph yet, but they claim 8-10 HP gain with Their stage 1 kit, that will be Evo high flow + high Flow mufflers. I'm assuming about a 4HP gain? Did u see my "Adding HP" post? stage 1,2,3 r well explained on there. No, the passenger side appears to just be a cooling fan (similar to a "pancake" fan on a computer) that pulls cool air into the engine compartment. No, I haven't been able to de-snorkel. The right side comes apart as described in an earlier thread - push the grille in, it frees up the duct and it comes loose. The left side doesn't want to cooperate. Like the grille and duct are one piece. Tried to push it in but it doesn't budge. Suggestions? Yes. Tried to get the tabs holding the grille to move outwards, releasing the grille, and tried to get the grille to "pop" in, releasing the duct. Nothing want to let go. I have pushed and pulled pretty hard, as hard as I think I should on plastic parts. Tomorrow night I'll try pushing the tabs outward again. OK, now it has been decided! I am a 'tard and a wimp. I tried again tonight and after getting frustrated, pushed the grille inwards harder than I had before. There are little tabs that the grille ends snap onto on the duct sides. After working with them and getting the grille to move inwards, it released the duct. A couple of tugs on the snorkel (I was pumped by then and any resistance the snorkel put up was futile) and it was out! Put the duct back in and test drive. I don't know if you can feel 5 hp or 3 lb ft of torque, but with the sound, it seems stronger. Thanks juniic! I am de-snorkeled! Alan Definitely, terrorized the lower end of our county at high speeds with my window down (temp in the 50's) so I could enjoy it. Probably going to have the worse fuel mileage on this tank due to opening the throttle repeated last night and today. Wonder how much additional improvement in sound and power with an EVO intake? :)

  11. I have done 3000+ miles road trip, my baby has gone from Washington to Cali & BACK. Knowing that it is a very reliable car oh did I mention ? - I drove about 650,000 original miles on my 944(83). These r what I carried: 1) My laptop(goes everywhere I go) 2) DVD Player to keep my G/F quiet(have a 7.2 indash player) 3) 1-burned music DVD (dual layer 8.4 GB- about 2000 songs, who needs an Ipod?) 4) 12V Power Converter(to charge anything!) 5) 12V tire inflator(a must) 6) Tire plug, patch kit( fix a flat will ruin your tire, don't ever use those) 7) 1 Quart of 0W- 40 Mobil 1 supersyn 8) Enjoying the SUN - PRICELESS !
  12. LOL In fact I used to run my 71 Firebird with no air filter.
  13. All different opinion, this is what I'd like to see!
  14. yup! I also heard some great feedbacks from my local members. They just love it!
  15. Cool, make sure u get 7-1/2 + full turns. used stock ones, just machined off the spacers on them.
  16. Nice! hey djomlas did u use your fatory lug nuts? 140mmx1.5 or?
  17. Ok I sure will, Porsche application is available now. I believe these were actually deveoped for european circuit racing teams. I ordered it from greenfilterusa.com I used it on my MBZ and they were great. Where did you get them from? I did not know they were available to Porsche. let me know how it works out as I may switch my 986 to that
  18. Sure! to start with for the front wheels to fit my "S" I needed a pair of 6.5mm spacers! I looked every where for em. But I didn't want the universal fit kind. Wanting either hub centric fit or 5-130 bolt pattern factory drilled, I found a pair on automotion.com for $32.00 (set). Since I was just extending 1/4 inch out , I didn't need to replace my bolts. I've had Kumhos on my car previously ECSTA ATX? but this time I'm switching to Nexen N3000. I'll let u guys know how they turn out. Thanks
  19. Thanks! These are from eurotech wheels. 18x9 & 18x11
  20. :) UPS guy brought a few boxes today & it was my toy I've been waiting for. I think these wheels r just gorgeous! What do u guys think?
  21. Earlier post I mentioned there being 2 switches . If u get different symptoms when operating the interior door handle vs the exterior handle. I'll probably check the alarm/cental locking computer unit under the seat, either mother board going bad or needs to be reprogrammed. Since all these functions are electronically controlled from there.
  22. Go check out panameras "DIY guide for removing interior plastic pieces?" topic . There is a little bit of discussion went on in there. Got the parts from Sunset today. Just to be clear, the lighter/switch panel simply pulls out from the dash? I've got plastic pry tools but sure don't feel like breaking anything. Thanks.
  23. Most cotton filters now are using 4 layers cotton gauze. It is a good a material for filtering but the draw back to using it is that it is similar to a gauze bandage. Holes can be warn though the gauze from cleaning & general everyday ware. Also little pieces of the warn cotton can be drawn into the engine from the intake pressure. With a Green Filter they use 2 layers of woven cotton (like a tee-shirt). There are 3 main benefits to woven cotton its: thinner hold oil better and stronger. Being thinner the benefit is a little better flow of air but with out sacrificing the filtration. (Green still filter to 5 microns). It holds the oil more evenly. Gaze is more sponge like so the oil can be pulled out by engine intake press but with Greens woven cotton you dont have this problem. The other benefit of woven cotton is that the cotton medium is stronger. Unlike a gauze bandage you cannot ware a hole though a tee-shirt just by rubbing it. One other important benefit of the cotton being woven (like a tee-shirt) is there is no way for the small bit of cotton to be pulled into the engine because the cotton is inter-locked with another piece. The biggest benefit for our woven design is that the filter can be cleaned many more times.
