  1. thanks ! phillipj Yup I'm pretty satisfied with it, and it's only gonna get better~ 2 pairs of tweeters and Hifonics amp is going to get installed today. it's bolted down tight ,she ain't going no where Andy:lol: Im sure that those POLKS are doing the job for now, but once u add a real sub woofer in your 986 . You will definately tell the difference or just disconnect your sub from 5.1 home theater system,,,LOL then u will see what I'm talking about !
  2. hey Shawn does it make any kind of a squeaking sound/noise or thung noise at all?
  3. A handsome ROCKFORD FOSGATE P8S4 came in today, with a huge magnet & coil(5"depth). then sub was mounted ,,,
  4. Merry Christmas to U all It is probably the easiest thing to do on a 986,should be on your manual remove carpeting covering the tail light unscrew 4 - 8mm mounting nuts , tail light should be pulled right out press the mounting tab of the bulb/socket holder, make sure to put the gasket back in its place!
  5. pretty dangerous on a 97? possibly,,, just because it was never approved, but nothing major hasn't happened yet, lol. I would say stick with 225/40/18 & 265/35/18
  6. It doesn't come with a sprinkler system? hahaha yup starter will draw some serious ampere, cranking AMP should be 500~700 amps. Probably why everything works but the starter doesn't crank when your battery is drained. Another reason why thick #4 AWG WIRE is directly distributed from a battery + terminal. In minutes,or hours I would never try to start my baby with a cigarette lighter booster,,, BUT IT IS A REALLY CONVENIENT TOOL TO RELEASE YOUR FROZEN FRONT LID, THEN KEEP HER MAINTAINED
  7. I'm hoping that I am ;) theory is something like that but probably not shorted to ground. If it was your window should not be working at all just because of the fact that any hot leg(12V/+) touching the ground, fuse should be blown immediately. I'm thinking more likely, its your hot legs getting shorted or motor itself,,, let us know what happens !
  8. For those who requested before & after pix + possibly thinking about upgrading their wheels. Here is a good pic of my front view to compare, I think - 17"CUP'S to staggered 18"S,smoked amber, smoked marker, silver crest,LED day running light + Zymol black wax,,, think a few modifications changed the look of my car, a lot more aggressive Now SHE can be eaily seperated from the other 986s B)
  9. I must been confused. I'll take it back ,somehow I thought he was talking about upper bow. U do have to apply some adhesive.
  10. Yup they will fit fine. this is just my opinion, it sort of looks like 16's to me. lol maybe it's just the lip
  11. Yup desnorkleing would probally get you more HP than EVO. Puhahahaha Nope it is motorized folded touch screen, MP4,SD memory card/USB PORT input,DIVX file compatible(importan for me) but no GPS. Who needs a navigation if U do then I'm thinking U are driving the wrong car,lol
  12. Nope, I've done many 986 tops but never seen that yet! T shape seal is supposed to only slide or poped out. No glue please!
  13. I gotta say man I appreciate all the input & concerns also. lol yup sometimes its hard being a innovator? I try at least. And it is extremely difficult to mount a sub in a 986. But some1 has to try,,, Anybody has a better location or better idea? LOL( no trunk lid or door rattling please) peace officer ? hahaha I could careless, my window is 5%, most of us have no front license plate, desnorkled. I'm sure list can go on & on . Yes I do own both NAVI & ESCALADE, I guess I'm just big on my system. U should see- I got 2- 15'S(NAVI) , 4 - 12'S for my Escalade. I thought I was going pretty light & small on this 1 B) This is what makes the world go around,,,,,
  14. LOL , it's all good My enquiry was “are you just winGing" it as far as acoustics go. I’m glad you’re winning just the same. Cross-overs are "electronic" by nature (what else, made of bark?, powered by water?) and a forgone conclusion. I thought maybe you had something new up your sleeve in that they were "electronic". Haven’t messed with speakers in a long time, my mistake. PK
  15. thanks for the compliment. Nope it isn't easy. Rear compartment ? wave passing through our loud engine? I believe it will sound much better inside cabin.
  16. WOW 2 eights? where r u going to fit all these? BTW your 2 seats vertically. they r gonna be taller than ur roll bar,,,LOL U can wire 2 8OHM subs running in parallel then bridge it(4OHM BRIDGED equal power as 2OHM mono) to your ROCKFORD U definitely need some tweeters. above 1000~2000 HZ is gonna be lacking!
  17. Glad that u got her back working. What u should've ordered is really M490 6 CH amp with your PNP kit. I would check your polarity. something is not right , probably PNP adapter terminal I'm thinking. please don't take this in a wrong way, after all that hassle + $$ your system isn't even working? My personal opinion is any leading 3 1/2" round speaker will sound 100 times better than a PNP kit . Perhaps this handsome INFINITY,,,
  18. hey POR986, yes these are being sold already!
  19. Thanks PK . Am I winning? I think so,,,LOL what do u mean by powered x-over, Did I mention that? I'M JUST USING a ELECTRONIC CROSSOVER. uhm interesting, converting rear storage into a sub box? you could probably mold it with fiber=glass but where would u mount the sub? so shallow in there! Are you winging the acoustic design? I've did design (aesthetic) work for Harmon Kardon & JBL some years ago. The "tweaks" (acoustic engineers) put one elluva lot of time into tuning the shape of the boxes, porting, cones, magnets, insulation, proportions, etc, etc. (Truth is, I never quite developed the ear the tweaks had.) Thinking about joining some audiophile forums, see if I can find someone to help converting my rear storage box into a Bose like sub. Probably a good trick. Interesting about the powered x-over. Never heard of it. What exactly does it do that a normal x-over doesn’t? Good luck, PK
  20. Sure, that amp u mentioned on Ebay looks like a regular M490 from 911(6CH). U made a great choice, buying polks - 1 of my top choices(MB quart,POLK,Clif Design,Infinity,,,) they also do great in competition. Not every amplifier is 2 OHM stable, only a few high end without getting overheated, distorted. Whenever OHM gets lowered, output power will almost double. In our 986's cabin , u don't need all that great power-all that power is worthless if it isn't tuned properly. Upgrading your alternator or battery is more likely when u r drawing massive power . just pushing roughly tuned 45RMS watts to your speakers would be way enough. My 8"sub isn't finished yet ,that is going to run in parallel. its being continued on my new topic!
  21. LOL maybe cuz I dont understand what u r talking about? r u talking about this, how u planning on have it elongated? lol i see these pictures but i dont know what you are trying to tell me.
  22. yes , what more do u want? B) so with the snorkel process, the result is a little power gain and increased sound?
  23. Another window problem? LOL I might have an idea,,, since it's not dropping half an inch like u mentioned it probably is not the micro switch. Seems to me window motor is getting a comfort open call when it's not necessary. A couple of ways I would approach: disconnect #5 terminal(comfort open contact) on the motor side first possibly 6,7 then see what happens. Also your connectors might be shorted, switch can be sticking - cuz its definitely calling a signal to your motor somehow when u don't want to
