  3. GRACIAS AMIGOS! Many thanks GGV8 over in UK. Of course I have some long awaited success with this CTT and my 08 4.8 x5 starts a-leakin'......sheeeeeeit! Back to the garage for leaky timing cover gaskets, vacuum pump, tranny pan/gasket plus juice and mechtronix seal. My mechanic will do it all for a grand and BMW will for 6$k. Nice guys those dealers.....oh well at least I like fixing cars.
  4. Today I swapped out the entire vacuum line assemly which had cracked as well as the engine torque arm. I couldn't get the electrical connection disconnected from the rear of the airbox. See below in green. The last thing I wanted to have happen was it snap off because I yanked on it. Any helpful hints? The padded vacuum line needs to slip under that connection there that is green... You pretty much it shoehorn the thing in without disassembling it in order to get it into place.

  7. Yes the smell is electrical but never before have I smelled this smell.....and I've been under the hoods and repaired almost everything on my many M BMWs, Mercedes, and my Toyota Landcruisers. This smell is a first, as is this Cayenne. I did temporarily wrap the vacuum line with Gorilla tape to stop a leak and a booster fault and there's a lot of heat there.....melting maybe? I'll look tomorrow. Is the heating circuit activity related to the fact that its very cold outside? 30s.

  9. I just pulled into my garage and noticed a electrical smell around the nose of my 2004 Turbo. About a month ago I would shut the car off and the auxiliary cooling fan would run for maybe a minute or so, which it's never ever done before. It's happened a few times but hasn't done it recently. Not sure what to think about this. In other news I had some of the crunching noise and feel when making a hard right turn into my garage. Slight incline as you turn into the garage. When cutting hard left into garage from other side of driveway no noise. So today I was at Home Depot on a level surface out in the parking lot by myself and I decided to see if I could replicate the crunchy sound. Cutting the wheel hard left and driving in the tightest circle possible, no noise. Repeat the same procedure with the wheel cut hard to the right, no noise. I realize that all-wheel-drive cars sometimes make crunching sounds, but my thought is something has gone awry, but why on a level surface does the crunching completely go away? Perhaps CV angle tightening on an incline causes the parts to make contact where they're worn out..... hence the crunching. Loren could you weigh in here when you can?
  10. Sure enough I removed the engine cover on pass. side and the upper hose above the check valve was cracked where it mounts on check valve barb. Gorilla tape and small ziptied it until I can order an OE hose assy. P/N anyone....? I'll be searching. My thought is it's the hose described as the upper hose in this thread. What I can deduce is the hardware above the clip retainer, etc is ok. The split hose was a shiny PVC IIRC no part number on it, perhaps not OE parts? Exactly the same as the linked to thread by forum used with issue at firewall and whom removed pump to access it. The valve appears ok but maybe I should swap out everything while I'm in there?
  11. Sorry Don 'tis an 04 CTT. My mech tested pressure and it was fine. I'm wondering if it is the fuel filter or check valve or pump itself. Not sure how to diagnose without getting bent the hell over at Porsche. I'm keeping his car so I want it fixed. My first son is due to arrive 1-19 so I'm a little gun shy about the dealer.

  14. Man I'm starting to wince every time I start the car. I do know my starter is going out because it's squealing, and I can easily replace it. What still concerns me is the drop in RPMs when the car first starts.....it's like the car is going to shake apart for a few seconds then smooths out. Drives me insane. Idle has been on and off slightly rough at the end of 2012. I've replaced all the coils with latest and greatest. Apart from the starter slowly dying am I looking at fuel filter/pump here? Anybody know an awesome indy mech in Dallas? Autoscope, RUF, etc......I want a Porsche only guy/gal.
  15. Precisely what I was debating. I just have never been in an 06. A neighbor has a cinnamon Turbo S 06 and it sounds WICKED. Going to keep my $10k.
  16. Thanks Loren. There is an 06 Turbo S here in town I like, not sure if they will trade my 04 in on it, but it's nice. I kinda want it. Do the 06s handle any better than an 04? I do need to address these doors though.
  17. Drivers door seems like its slightly misaligned. If you gently shut it it doesn't really do much....the air noise while on the highway is bothersome. I'm pretty sure the seals have had it.
  18. I'm getting wind noise from my driver's door up in the corner and realize there is a TSB on it, but at 108k mi the door no longer shuts with a satisfying solid THUMP. It needs new seals I'd think. Inner, outer, both, more than that? Anyone do this yet?
  19. You guys gotta help me out here. What's the biggest advantage to the 06 rather than a Gen 2 next year? I already have a Turbo and if I could make it idle smoothly I'd not even consider the S yet. My car is mint but has 108k mi. Not that it is an issue......
  20. I put the latest revision Porsches in along with plugs. Idle still sucks at least IMHO. Doesn't always start the first time either. Overall car accelerates better though. Been eyeing a Turbo S.....My Beru coilpacks are also latest revision and are pristine if anyone needs a set. My compulsion is your gain!
  21. Would like better handling but isn't an 09 a completely different animal AND better? My 04 has literally everything in it. Not as nimble as I'd prefer and the NAV is fine but I just wanna drive it with the PASM off in Sport setting all the time.
  22. Local dealer has one with 62k mi and I'm wondering if it's worth the cheese to go from an 04 Turbo to it or wait a year and get an 09.
