  1. 2004 Boxster SE - I have a high-pitched squeak that sounds like it's coming from the base of the drivers side A pillar. I'm not ruling out suspension, but it doesn't seem to be coming from that far away - it's not the door (it squeaks when the door is open) - top shock mount? Side mirror? Maybe even the gauge cluster? It's only noticeable at low speeds (mostly cause it gets drowned out at higher speeds), and it seems more pronounced with top and windows down (though I can still hear it with the top and windows up). Took it to a shop, and $250 and two new hood shocks later, it's not fixed. Anyone BTDT?
  2. What is number 12 on the passenger side of the car? I thought that was the fill plug - probably good I didn't get it off.
  3. The fill plug for mine is right by the half shafts - I don’t think that’s the right area.
  4. Previous owner bunged up the 10mm transmission filler plug. I think the part number is WHT-001-937 - PET shows that as the part number for both the drain and fill plug, so I wanted to make sure they are the same.
  5. I'd like to replace the locking lug bolts on my 2004 Boxster SE with standard lug bolts, and am looking for the part number, which is likely 5 mm longer than standard because of the spacers.
  6. The previous owner had a radar detector installed (which is quite outdated) that I would like to remove, but they used the lower right dummy switch for the power. Can I just buy that switch? I know the cernter console has a part number, but hopefully I can just buy that little piece.
  7. They are two different cars - I guess my question is, is that rod still adjustable on the 981? This is what it looks like on a 986:
  8. On my 1998 986, I had a mechanic adjust the travel of the brake pedal - if I recall correctly, there is a shaft that is accessible underneath the brake reservoir. I absolutely loved the change - you had to push the brake pedal very little to get pad engagement. My new to me 981 has pretty long travel with the stock pads. Is this still something that can be adjusted?
  9. The seller's mechanic stated that it was due to low voltage from the battery, but they tested the battery at the time of the inspection, and it was charging fine. I really appreciate the advice - as you say, there are plenty more out there, so I'll keep looking!
  10. Thanks for the quick reply - I'm assuming these sorts of codes are atypical?
  11. I'm looking to buy a 2014 Boxster S, and I had a shop do a full inspection. They sent me the following OBD codes - are these anything to be concerned with, or are they just hiccups (or a battery change)?
  12. That did it, and I got the vent line changed. Thanks!
  13. It's difficult to tell which side is up.
  14. I'm in the process of replacing the fuel vent line from the throttle body. Just above where it connects to the line on the car, it (along with three other lines) runs through a clasp. How do I get this open? It looks like the hinge is on the right side, but I can't see how to open it. This pic is just in front of the rear driver's tire looking up.
  15. Yes, for the 996 engine. I suppose at this point it's a guessing game, and I may as well change the part and see if it helps
  16. No codes on a generic reader, and no cel.
  17. I don't have a reader, Durametric or otherwise. Would a generic one work?
  18. I have had this issue for a couple years. The main symptom is that, after driving awhile, and especially on less than half a tank, there will be a moaning sound coming from the gas cap. If I remove the gas cap and open the fuel filler, air will rush in. The other issue I'm having is that, on cold starts, the car will kind of buck like the fuel is cutting out - it goes away after a couple minutes when the car is warm. I have already changed the valve on the gas filler neck and the valve on the charcoal canister, but neither fixed the issue. I'm now targeting the fuel vent line connected to the throttle body, but having read other posts, it seems like that one generally causes issues with fueling and with hot starts, neither of which I'm having. Ideas?
  19. I traced the lines - unless it is behind the carbon canister (I would have to take the canister off to get to it), part number 8 is not in there. Where should it be in my pics?
  20. I replaced number 6 on the canister already - I still have number 9. Do you think my car doesn't have part 8?
  21. Following up on this thread from three years ago: I changed 996.605.201.01, but I still get a very loud, throaty noise when I drive for long distances. I finally decided to take the car apart again today, and darn it if I can't figure out where 996.605.213.01 goes. Everyone says it's behind the headlight, but I don't see anything. Here is what my car looks like. Should I be changing the part with the orange cap just behind the filler (http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Porsche-996-997-Carrera/106-FUEL-Replacing_Your_Fuel_Line_Vent_Valve/106-FUEL-Replacing_Your_Fuel_Line_Vent_Valve.htm).
  22. I have a 2009 Cayenne that, the day it hit 60,000 miles, started getting a serious thumping under the center console. I ordered the new EPS bearing and took it to the local Porsche shop. They removed the driveshaft and installed the new rubber front and the new bearing. However, the car is still shaking somewhat right around 30 mph. I suspect they did not reinstall the driveshaft the same way it came out, and it is out of balance. Couple questions - does that sound reasonable? How would they rebalance the driveshaft? Or, do I need to replace the driveshaft as well?
  23. I'm looking for both a tumbler (similar to this one): and a plastic water bottle that would fit in the middle cupholders of my 2009 Cayenne. About the only thing I have that fits is the plastic Starbucks container: Any help or ideas are much appreciated.
