  1. I was offered a Sparco Evo XL Race Seat for avery decent price. I was wondering whether it would fit my 01 Boxster. Thanks, Gustavo I attached a link to the Sparco seats dimensions below...The seat I am looking at is the 8th from top to bottom... Seat Dimensions
  2. Can't speak for anyone else, of course, but I have been very happy with my CDR220. I know its no $1000 after market blaster, but, then, I'm no audiophile. 30 years of jet engines have saved me a lot of money on high-end stereo gear. I'm also happy with the support Becker America has given me. They may have raised the price, but I paid only about $12 for the Aux input cable .... and they threw in instructions on programming the radio for it, along with a free set of removal tools. Twice I have had cause to call them directly and both times got quick & helpful advice / information. I hardwired a third party adaptor to power the ipod and ran the connector wire back through the center console. The same wire/plug takes the output signal to the the Aux input cable. Nice and neat. (thank you Orient Express for a great DIY). Could anyone please point me to Orient Express' DIY Article... Thank you so much, Gustavo Andrade
  3. Hi guys, I am also think about replacing my HAES 4x40W (same as Randy)...Can anyone provide me with a diagram? Thank you so much, Gustavo
  4. Hey boggtown, I looked at your registry...great job with the car man! I could not however locate the store you mentioned for the seats...I found image auto but it is basically a car dealer. Do you have the link to these guys... Thanks, Gus
  5. Hi Chris, I am planning on adding the rear speakers as you suggested – I actually purchased DKE-108 - MB Quart 3.5" (4 Ohms, Frequency Response: 90 - 32.000, Sensitivity: 4,5dB, 20-50 Watts) from WoofersEtc I understand you don’t have door speakers and you are using the enclosed sub for bass. In my case I have the doors for bass (I sealed the door panels and replaced the speakers with Focals 130 CA), which are currently powered together with the dash speakers (Infinity Kappa 42.7 I) by the original HAES 4X40 W amp. I plan on changing the AMP at a later occasion. Due to my very restricted knowledge on audio install, I have a few questions: 1) Can I power the rear speakers I am about to install straight from the HU (Becker CDR 220) and keep the front and rear connections intact? If so, do you have any ideas on how I should wire the speakers (what output should I use from the HU)? Do you know where I can find a wiring diagram? 2) What type of wires and connectors are appropriate for my speakers? 3) How did you “route” the rear speakers’ wires? Did you route them through the center console or the laterals? Thank you very much and sorry to bother, Gustavo
  6. Hooster, I sent you a PM
  7. I second that...IMMHO I wouldnt worry about the 'N' but would definetly have the same brand and "thread design" in all four wheels. Different brands will have a direct impact on the car handling. Good luck, Gustavo
  8. Thanks for the response. How much could you sell them for? Do you have any idea of how much the shipping would be? I have been having a hard time finding any 16'' wheels in the NE...(that time of the year!) Thanks, Gustavo
  9. Hi guys, I have finally decided to hardwire a V-1 to my '01 Boxster, I am a little bit confused on where to tap for power. The instructions that came with my "Direct Wire Cord" (and Radar Roy!!!) seem to suggest that I can use the connector to tap in to the fuse box. I have however read in this link Install Instructions (thanks Izzy) that the easiest way would be to remove the left side panel in the center console and use a 3M connector to tap into the black/green cable of a 4-wired loose harness which is found once the pannel is removed. Has anyone installed a V1 in a Boxster and followed the steps above? :help: I need some help on the following: 1) Are there any tricks to remove the left side panel of the center console (photo below) ? Can it be broken easily? I am not the most skilled or delicate installer. 2) Should I tap into the Black/Green wire behind the console (photo below) for power or would it be easier just to go straight to the fuse box and use the fuse for the radio? 3) Will any metal screw work as ground for my install? 4) What is the easiest "route" to hide the wires? I read somewhere that it might be as easy as tucking the wires in the space between the pillar and the windshield - does that sound fine? As you can see by my expertise, I have a long Saturday in front of me.. B) Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Gustavo
  10. Hi guys, As my first winter as a Porsche owner approaches, I want to make sure that I have appropriate tires and wheels to face the sleet and eventual snow here at NJ. I intend to put 16'' wheels but am not sure what wheels or tires would be affordable and appropriate for my car. Do I need to get Porsche OEM wheels? What about tires what is a decent one? Thanks, Gustavo :renntech:
  11. Hi Nestor it is a little complex, but with the seats and the BK brackets (not roll-bar extensions) you should be fine. The link to the brackets is: http://www.bkauto.com/porsche/aftermarket.php For the 987 all BK products are here: http://www.bkauto.com/porsche/specs.php?mo...&Submit.y=7 Best, Gustavo
  12. I installed a pair of Corbeau seat in my boxster and I'm very happy with the fit and confort. Here is the link http://www.corbeau.com/products/trs/trs.shtml# The regular width fits perfectly, I don't think that the wide would work. They sell the sliding base for the boxster so no drilling required. they are lower then the oem electric seat. I'm 6' tall, if you want I could measure the space between my head and the roll bar. Let me know if you want pictures. Yes please. I'd be interested to see how they look. I am very ineterested as well... Thanks, Gustavo
  13. Thanks for the advice Gustavo. Both look like good choices. Hadn't thought about the Pole Position. Might be just what I need for track days. My biggest concern right now is safety as my helmet sticks about an inch above the rollbar. Nestor I hear you...I have the same problem with the head touching the roll-bar and have been looking for a solution. I have read about the subject and it seems that only the seat replacement won't take care of the matter, you will also need to add BK brackets. Search a posting entitled "comfortable ride for 6'4'' which I started in this forum...They give the links to the brackets as well as some useful info. I have not solved my problem yet. Lets keep in touch and let me know if you come across something interesting. PS: I am not sure any XL seat will fit in the 987 or 986s.
  14. Hi Spencer, What you are feeling seems to be a balancing issue, since you don't seem to experience any abrupt swaying, which would signal an alignment problem. Balancing in a reputable Tire Shop should take care of it. Best, Gustavo
  15. Hi Nestor, I have also been looking for seats and I came across these very nice Recaro Sportster CS Hybrid Sport Seats, which while allowing the racing feel do not necessarily make the day to day driving tiring. I have not purchased yet, mainly because of the price... I would also look at the Recaro Pole Position... Best, Gustavo
  16. Guys, I am not a driving instructor, but in my modest opinion driving is about keeping the car balanced and under control, which can only be achieved through smoothness. How smooth can it be to slow down a car by downshifting without the appropriate use of the breaks? How does it feel when you do so as oposed to applying appropriate pressure to the brake and then downshifting? In the same lines, how balanced would your car be if you only usedthe brakes and didn't downshift for appropriate revs and acceleration / can any car in 5th gear at 1200 rpms honestly be considered balanced or under control in any situation? As for me, based on Porsche's heritage and reputation, I would find it unnaceptable that they would build anything or add any parts to their cars that would prevent a perfectly balanced drive by a resonably skilled driver - which inevitably include efficient, smooth braking... Just some humble (not so technical) thoughts, Best, Gustavo
  17. Hi Westcoaster, So they did not check the clearence between your head and the roll-bar? Thats my main concern since I am 6'4''....And I heard of a certain Broomstick rule. Thanks, Gustavo
  18. It definetly sounds as a GREAT EXPERIENCE... I have been planning on joining a DE event myself and your comments encouraged me even further. I havent done so yet because I need to replace my seats to lower ones, to pass the tech inspection (broom stick). Anyways, I have a quick question - I know the event is safe. However, would your insurance cover had any damage happened to the car? Did u need to contacj your agent before the event? Thanks, Gustavo :renntech:
  19. Hi all, I was wondering if any of you know a good shop (with decent prices) to get my '01 986 a proper balancing and alignment in the NJ area. I ordered new tires through Tire Rack and took my car to a recommended installer, who apparently screw up somewhere... Additionally, how much am I expected to pay for a decent service? I have the 18 inches carrera wheels... Thanks, Gustavo :renntech:
  20. Hahahah, Thanks Izzy. I will probably take it to the dealer then...Unless anyone alse knows any reputable shop in the NY / NJ area. Gustavo
  21. Thanks Viper, I e-mailed Sunset...I will let you know how it goes. Thanks, Gustavo
  22. I have experienced the exact same situation this weekend on my '01 Boxster, which is perfectly described above as " felt some uncontrolled swaying of the car while driving on the freeway between 60 and 80 MPH. At times, it felt as if there was a really high wind blowing against the side of the car pushing it around. Almost felt like a lost of traction or driving on a really wet road ". I am wondering whether this has to do with any alignment issues, which would surprise me since I have just bought new tires and asked for alignment and balancing. In addition I have no emergency lights on, everything seems fine and the car is otherwise great. What are the other "symptoms" of poor alignment? Thank you so much, Gustavo Andrade
  23. Ok. I didn't know that. So you're saying that his "clear" headlights are more or less the same as your headlights ? i.e. the amount of amber stuff is the same ? I was also researching some more and found this thread with toolpants. So this amber filter is present in both the 'clear' lithtronics as well as the 'clear' regular lights ? And method of removal is the same ? Toolpants, did you take out the amber from your lights ? During the day, can you make that amber stuff clearly or its really doesn't matter ? cheers ! Well...One more Boxster owner looking to get rid of the amber lights...They look particularly unpleasant in my black on black car Do you guys have any idea of where I can find a good deal on either clear lights or litronics? I own a '01 986 and have been looking for a fair deal for a while. I tried the links above but, as expected, they are outdated. Any advice that would help me pay less than the 1,094 for clears or 1,494 for litronics (at Sun Coast) is very, very welcome... Thanks you very much, Cheers Gustavo :renntech:
  24. Whats that? The "broomstick" test means that the top of the drivers helmet must be below the line from the top of the roll bar to the top of the windshield. I hope this helps, Gustavo
  25. Yes I have. You can look on ebay for GT3 replica seats. They are leather seats and made out of carbon fiber. Run about $1500 a pair. You basically need to buy an adapter to install it on your boxster. Are these seats comfortable? I am 6'4'' but my wife is around 5'6'', will she feel uncomfortable driving the car? I want to change the seats so that I can pass the broomstick test.... Thanks guys, Gustavo :help:
