  1. I ever used the cigarette lighter but the 12V power port should also work.
  2. The DME is located under the clam shell/soft top, remove the trim (carpet) with the soft top in service possition and you will find the DME mounted in vertical possition behind the roll bars.
  3. A racing car needs 4 slick tyres (for racing purpose only) they are illegal for public roads, this said, a 996 stock (showroom) may not equipped with slicks according the manual.
  4. Pentosin CHF 11 S is replaced by Pentosin CHF 202 since 2 years, it can be mixed to top up the level.
  5. The relevant sensor is a part of the compressor body and not available separately, you can order a body repair kit in a VW dealership instead a complete compressor assembly in a Porsche dealership for 1/4 price.
  6. Easy to do, remove the screws on the front part of the inner liners and pull out of the way, and you got free access to the horns.
  7. Try Porsche parts at dealers cost ( Sunset Imports ) on top of the page (US) or www.carnewall.com (EURO).
  8. I think brianmcgonigal is owner of a 996 cabrio, his complaint looks not representative to 986. If it is so, please do a search, it is covered in the 996 forum.
  9. I cant see (parts of) the propeller, i would open the thermostat housing and remove the thermostat to inspect a little closer.
  10. Push on the remote lock button for approx. 3 seconds, stop the engine, get out of the car and lock with the remote, if the system reacts = OK, if not contact the dealer to reprogram both remotes.
  11. There is no need to grind down the intake manifold, if ALL the tubes are correctly placed.
  12. As long as the oil brand and viscosity is on the "Porsche approved" list, you can do nothing wrong. Since the valve lifters are hydraulic there is no reliable clearance check procedure available as DIY, as far as i know.
  13. Remove the bumper and both air/air coolers, let the turbo's in place. Much easier and faster.
  14. Any OPC would be able to do that for you without problems IMHO, remains on the price.
  15. Please do a search antenna+adaptor, it's on the board.
  16. Probably one of the valve lifters is leaking (internal) some oil, not uncommon after a month of standstill. It become more critical when the interval became shorter, every two days or every day when start up cold. However an oil and filter change doe's any harm.
  17. The rear windows are slightly adjustable (in/out) with two small nuts on the B-pillar area, if the krytox wont work let your dealer adjust the window and re tighten the nuts.
  18. It's stamped on the hub "getriebe seite" ( transmission side)
  19. Pink and green coolant can be mixed without problems.
  20. I would suggest a visit to the dealer, to check it out with the PIWIS tester, since the car is still in warranty.
  21. The best you can do is change both bulbs, they have approx. the same life time. As you mentioned, there is nothing wrong with the steering sensor or fuse. They use a system if the left corn.light is out, the right does the same, if the right is out, the left still working, so they are not wired in series but controlled by electronics.
  22. The intermediate shaft build in the Turbo and GT2/3 is a lot smaller and shorter, more important is the much better bearing instead of the M96 half floated large shaft which Loren indicates.
  23. The child seat bar should be logged out by a PIWIS tester.
  24. It make it easier if you loose/remove the radiator bracket from the car body, after you have disconnect the aircond. condenser from the radiator with the lines still connected. You can remove/reinstall the 3 clips much easier and there is no chance to break off the radiator connectors.
  25. The valves in the DFI Cayenne engines stays clean and carbon free in any case, as far as i have seen in a test car with 100.000 Km on the tacho. Since there is no fuel injected on the intake valve stems, only filtered air, there is no deposit or whatever on the stems. There was no abnormal deposit in the combustion room neither.
