  1. If you are talking about the chain tensioner seal, yes you can messing up the timing, the best is to lock the camshafts with a special tool.
  2. You can go with Mobil1 5W - 50 for Australia, if you can find it.
  3. Please use the search function, it's on the board already.
  4. If you are not familiar with the fitting of the front upper bearing and washers, it's better to remove the struts and do the work on a bench, you have to remove the rear ones anyway. There should be some instructions on the 996/986 forum.
  5. 997 new design IMS started world wide with MY06, the in warranty replaced MY05 engines are all new design.
  6. If your car has a correct dealer completed maintenance manual, you can expect a good compensation, 20k km and 4 years old should still in the range. Porsche knows about the 997 MY05 engine troubles, the worst ever build.
  7. If the car is a C2, check the throttle cable for proper fitment and connection on the throttle body.
  8. I would disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes, reconnect and try again. It is still possible that the control box is dead, especially when the battery ground cable was not disconnected from the chassis during the charge. You can close the soft top manually, a little complicated but reasonable, see owners manual.
  9. The engine is not a jacking point, you have to replace both engine mounts. There are instructions on this board concerning jacking points, do a search.
  10. Don't forget to close the engine compartment lid !!! ;)
  11. It is probably the left inter cooler which contains the most oil, caused by the different positions of the turbo oil return lines left and right. The left side line runs hotter and becomes clogged with oil residues, i would clean the interior of the line first.
  12. We gave always the car's fuel lid as example + the paint code, to match the right color, to the paint mixer or factory.
  13. Please use the board "search" (spark plug change) function, this subject is discussed before.
  14. What i have from the manual: summer 235/40 ZR 18 on 8J x 18 ET 57 - 265/40 ZR 18 on 10J x 18 ET 58 // 235/35 ZR 19 on 8J x 19 ET 57 - 295/30 ZR 19 on 11J x 19 ET 71. winter: 235/40 R 18 on 8J x 18 ET 57 - 265/40 R 18 on 10J x 18 ET 58. Dated 04 - 2004 for European cars, could be different for US and already overhauling.
  15. A defective MAF sensor can't recover by cleaning, only a dirty one at best. ;)
  16. PM member berty987, i thought he has explained ones.
  17. Take note that Turbo and GT2/3 engines makes more noise ( by construction ) on the rear side than Carrera's.
  18. The tyre dimensions for 18" and 19" are the same as in the manual for 997. Looks good so far.
  19. There is probably too much pressure between the window and the soft top rubber seal, take a look if there is nothing stuck between the window and the seal and apply some silicone spray on the seal for better movement.
  20. drem914, it's not normal to blow up 2 pairs in 3 months. Or the used bulbs are crap, or the alternator voltage output is too high, IMHO.
  21. I never done it, but i can't see directly the difference in connection and dimensions, for a complete steering wheel inclusive the air bag, between Turbo and Carrera. I could be wrong.
  22. I have no idea what the outside temperature is in Houston, but from + 4 C° and hotter, the airco compressor is working with the heater ON, if you switch the heater OFF the compressor is OFF as well. There is a chance that you hear the compressor running with too LITTLE R134a ( gas ) in the system, let check the system for a leak and the capacity. ( 850 gramme is needed )
  23. I would bleed the clutch system again to start with, if no result check for leaks and replace the master and/or the slave cylinder when leaking.
  24. Caliper, rotor, hub and wheel "moves perfectly together" as you stated, there should be no difference in theory. 1/8" is not that much, in case of road debris enters between the caliper and the inner side of the wheel, and what with the wheel balance weight ?
  25. As you said "toujours utilise" some of the translations are not what they should be. The reason way i use the lighter is routine, the former series had no 12V. power port.
