  1. If it is a DIY depends the mechanical knowledge and the (special) tools available. It should not prevent you to ask for a second opinion about the issue.
  2. Small detail to start with, you talk about the front LEFT but the pic. shows the front RIGHT. Best you can do is following the wiring or ask for a PIWIS Cayenne electric diagram print out, could be anything with 3 wire connector on the right side from chassis acceleration sensor till loading sensor (headlight height correction HID). Success.
  3. Please use the search button, this item is discussed here before. Wonder why the engine wont start on 5 cylinders Power loss is normal with one cylinder less. "Is there anyway to tell if a mass air flow sensor if fried? I am haveing problems fixing my 996 with code P0303 and P0300" "no oil Loren, just really crusty with orange red rust color as well as the ends of the plugs too" "Took the spark plugs out and found the tips covered in oil, looks pretty bad, CEL came back on and now only left with one code P0300" " the spark plug is completley covered in oil from the igniter going into the motor! and oil on o-rings and coils" All very confusing IMHO.
  4. If you are located in the US, contact the board sponsor for a good price, use the "Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost" button on top of each page.
  5. The tensioner is not adjustable and rarely fails.
  6. Well, this is a problem less, hope you can find the cause.
  7. A spark plug with the isolator covered in oil refers to leaking plug tubes (< MY03), a spark plug with only the central and ground electrodes covered in oil refers to engine/cylinder problem. I'm pretty sure your problem concerns only leaking spark plug tubes, i would start with that.
  8. Loren, The pic. send by temporel looks not comprehensive enough for details (exact routing), but perhaps the wiring colors will match with the SERVOTRONIC steering rack connector instead of the RDK system?
  9. I would not wait for an engine rattle and a check engine light, since the car already suffers with a oil pressure warning.
  10. If the spark plug isolator and ignition coil are free of oil, you could have a more critical issue, let check the engine and the problematic cylinder in particular.
  11. I would look first for corrosion on the amplifier connections, they are located in the rear roof spoiler and are rectangle gold colored (two pieces on ROW cars)
  12. Let the car check on fault codes with a PIWIS diagnostic tool, this codes are essential for a diagnosis.
  13. Best buy is a shop or similar manual to prevent you from possible mechanical problems (and money) IMHO.
  14. Correction: if you mean with the "TIP" of the spark plug, the part which is in the combustion room, than you have a problem.
  15. If the car is older than MY03, replace the spark plug tubes and O-rings.
  16. The serial number belongs to a factory rebuild engine with two years warranty.
  17. Do what 1999Porsche911 suggest, check the pressure relief valve spring first, i have seen once in a while a M96 with a broken spring, a second point to look at is the oil filter holder valve system, which you can find on the bottom of the filter holder, the symptoms are for both issues too low oil pressure. The pressure relief valve is easy to find and to remove on the rear of the engine.
  18. Don't worry spadaco, the fault will come back after a while, gagama got it right. There are 2 or 3 yellow connectors on each seat to cut out and re solder the wiring.
  19. NEVER disconnect the GROUND or POWER cables with the engine RUNNING. Some day it will cost you a lot, keep this in mind for the rest of you (car) days. :drive:
  20. The pressure relief valve issue was 987 MY05/06 related, with engine cooling water temp. between 70C° and 80C° and approx. 2.000 RPM. I have never seen a 986 with the same issue, but it's not impossible.
  21. Try this for ROW (Euro): Ignition ON Disconnect GROUND cable from battery Disconnect POWER cable from battery Connect both LOOSE cables with GROUND (car body) for 10 minutes Connect POWER cable on the battery Connect GROUND cable on the battery Ignition OFF Ignition ON START engine The warning lights should be out Note the radio code before you disconnect the battery Use the window learning procedure
  22. I would suspect the push rod connection on the pedal and/or the clutch mechanism in first place, clutch cylinders usually do not pop or snap when they fail, starts rather slowly leaking without warning.
  23. @ Porker, the engine actual values are deleted every time you clear the fault codes or disconnect the battery.
  24. Use a jack which is adapted to the specific Cayenne height, so you can use them on the 996 as well, vice versa is not always possible.
  25. Unfortunately, this feature can not be disabled. This was a choice they have to make, a Boxster does the other.
